BTS x Michael Jackson? Truth behind tribute collab revealed as BigHit releases official statement
BTS
and the late pop icon
Michael Jackson
have been firmly dismissed by BTS's agency, BigHit Music. What began as excitement over a potential posthumous tribute album quickly turned into confusion after claims surfaced that BTS had recorded one of Jackson's unreleased tracks. BigHit has now released a statement making it clear that the group is not involved in any such project.
Origin of the Rumour
The speculation began after The Irish Sun published an interview with Paddy Dunning, owner of Grouse Lodge Studio in Ireland. Dunning claimed that BTS had recorded a song for a tribute album featuring unreleased Michael Jackson tracks from 2006. According to the report, Jackson had worked on music during a stay in Ireland, and some of these never-before-heard songs were being revived for a tribute project involving several international artists.

Dunning also mentioned a documentary in the works to highlight Jackson's time in Ireland and added that he had been in touch with the Jackson estate, which had supposedly approved the idea. His comments sparked major online buzz, with fan forums and social media platforms reacting rapidly to the possibility of a BTS–Michael Jackson collaboration.
BigHit Responds to Speculation
Soon after the report spread, BigHit Music released a firm statement in both Korean and English on its official X (formerly Twitter) account. The agency clarified that BTS had not visited Grouse Lodge Studio and was in no way involved in the tribute project. The statement emphasized that BTS had neither recorded any Michael Jackson song nor taken part in any sessions related to the tribute album.
The agency stated that all seven members — RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook — are currently in Los Angeles working on their next group album, expected in early 2026. BigHit also acknowledged the fans' support and reiterated its commitment to protecting the artists and addressing the spread of misinformation.

Michael Jackson Estate Link
Adding to BigHit's statement, several fan-run Michael Jackson platforms noted that the Jackson estate had not authorized any collaboration with BTS. One fan had reportedly emailed the estate for clarification and received a reply confirming there was no such project involving the K-pop group.
This further strengthened the position that the circulating reports were based on unverified claims, not official announcements. The confusion appears to have come from misinterpreted media reports and unconfirmed comments.
While BTS has denied involvement, the tribute project itself has not been ruled out. Dunning claimed that a number of Jackson's unreleased tracks — originally created with collaborators like Rodney Jerkins and Nephew — are part of the plan, along with a documentary on Jackson's years in Ireland.

Was BTS' album work halted due to Bang Si Hyuk's return to South Korea for investigation? Unfounded reports swirl internet
As BTS pursues the release of new music, it seems that a hurdle stands in their way. According to reports on August 13, Bang Si Hyuk, the founder of BIGHIT MUSIC (the group's agency), returned to South Korea on the afternoon of August 11, leading to a stoppage in the team's album production process. The septet, which recently reunited as a whole following the completion of member Jin's solo tour, has been working hard on their comeback album. Meanwhile, the HYBE chairman has been summoned for a police investigation regarding a stock fraud case, which has shaken the Korean entertainment industry. BTS' album plans at a standstill amid HYBE's stock investigation? Rumors spread A report from News Tong on the day claims that owing to the ongoing questioning in the IPO case involving the media giant, Bang Si Hyuk was 'unable to finish producing BTS ' new album in the United States and hastily returned to South Korea via the Incheon International Airport'. While so far, no other channels have furthered the news or provided additional information, it seems unlikely that the group would cease their music production process due to this. Previously, the group shared behind-the-scenes videos from the studio where they were spotted hanging out with Charlie Puth. Subsequently, RM also shared how he had been mingling with Diplo. The team had shared that they planned to work with esteemed producers and composers while working on their album. A July 1 livestream confirmed their plans to head to the US for a while, and for the past month and a half, they have been going in and out of their homeland and the States while creating new music. The release of their first-ever post-military comeback album is set for spring 2026, with no exact timeline being confirmed so far. As the group reunites following the completion of Jin's Run SeokJin Ep World Tour, fans are expecting a live session from the seven of them.

The Map That Leads to You star Sofia Wylie under fire for ‘shade' against BLACKPINK, KATSEYE's Sophia gets dragged into row
The red carpet of The Map That Leads to You's premiere recently turned viral for very different reasons than the makers would have expected. Actress Sofia Wylie turned up the heat with the comments for K-pop group BLACKPINK. What was probably meant as praise for the team turned into criticism online, or maybe it was an intended diss. The group's fandom is not taking it well and has also lashed out against KATSEYE member Sophia, who dropped a like on the video where Sofia Wylie was heard saying that the K-pop stars are 'giving nothing' these days. Sofia Wylie goes up against BLACKPINK, here's what happened Talking to MTV, she said, 'KATSEYE is my bae. I love KATSEYE. I watch every one of their videos. They just performed at Lollapalooza. My girls are going crazy. And BLACKPINK, I love you. Even though you're giving us nothing right now, I love you still. Always.' Sofia Wylie's remark about 'giving us nothing' has hit the fans the wrong way. Many are calling it a dig at the group's members' dancing and singing, as well as the overall vibe during the team's ongoing tour, which has been inviting some criticism on the internet. Others are linking it to how the quartet has released only 1 song after a wait of 3 years, and that the American actor probably meant that BLACKPINK had not given back to their fans, instead of it being about their performance. But that is about to change as reports of the singers releasing a new album in November are already making the rounds. It is not known what Sofia Wylie's real intent was, but fans are definitely not happy with her words. On the other hand, KATSEYE's Sophia is said to have liked the video, inviting another wave of criticism from the fans to her Instagram, where they're taking her reaction as an agreement to the diss. Instantly, the younger singer's account was flooded with bad comments and painting it as 'jealousy'. None of the involved artists has spoken about the incident since.

BigHit's new boy band CORTIS reveals the sound advice they recieved from the Bangtan Boys before their debut
If there's one K-pop playbook worth studying, it's BTS's. From their perfectly timed career moves to navigating military enlistment without losing momentum, the Bangtan boys have turned strategy into an art form. And now, BigHit Music is hoping lightning will strike thrice. After the blockbuster success of BTS and TXT, the label is ready to unleash its next powerhouse: CORTIS. CORTIS and BTS Five fresh-faced young boys — Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon, and Keonho — will be a part of BigHit's first new boy group since TXT's 2019 debut. Each member brings their own creative edge, but all eyes are on 17-year-old leader Martin. The Canadian-Korean prodigy has already made his mark behind the scenes, penning tracks like TXT's Deja Vu, Miracle, and Beautiful Strangers, ENHYPEN's Outside, LE SSERAFIM's Pierrot, and ILLIT's Magnetic. Not bad for someone who hasn't even debuted yet. But what about their interactions with brother group BTS? In an exclusive chat with Rolling Stone, CORTIS revealed that they've had some pretty legendary moments with the Bangtan Boys who took the time to offer some pre-debut wisdom. Sounds exactly like something they would do! 'BTS gave us the advice to do well by the people that you're working with, the staff. And I feel like that's all that matters. To hit a long run, you've got to be good to the people around you. You've got to show love,' said Martin. Juhoon chimed in with another gem from their sunbaes: 'Another piece of advice BTS gave us is that a lot of people may think it's the end once you debut. But actually, the debut is just the beginning, so there's no need to be perfect. Show improvement and keep evolving as you go. That's been helping me a lot for where we are right now in this particular moment in time when I'm just about to debut.' The path toward success CORTIS has already dipped their toes into the scene with their pre-debut MV Go!, which sparked mixed reactions from fans. But the real test is coming soon: their official title track What You Want drops on August 18 at 6 p.m. KST, with an English version featuring American rapper Teezo Touchdown following on August 22.
