Friends dress as Beefeaters to cheer on cyclists
"I think you've got to be a specific person, we're a unique group," Dave said."I was fortunate enough to join because of Andy. I've never looked back since – it's a phenomenal experience, a great party."Often selecting a gruelling hill-climbing stage, the men form a 'Beefeater Bend' around a corner of the course, to spur competitors on.They have even been known to bust a move or two, famously captured in a 2015 video where they danced along to Links Rechts, a popular song played at Dutch sporting events. Most recently, the friends made the trip across the Channel to attend the 16th stage of the Tour de France, on Mont Ventoux. While none of the group can claim the official title of beefeater, they have been advised on their outfits by the real deal. One of the warders contacted the group on social media to give some tips on what they had got right and wrong, Dave said.In 2017, the group was invited with family and friends to attend the Ceremony of the Keys in London, and meet some of their real-life counterparts. "It's such a privilege that the Beefeaters are watching our activity while we're out in France, and obviously they like what we do, so it's great," Andy said.Having hung their costumes up after this year's event, discussions have already begun about which stage to attend in 2026.Andy added that the group was especially excited about the Tour's return to the UK in 2027."The route starts in Edinburgh – that's going to be huge one," he said."If you've not experienced it before, get yourself to that one, anyone who wants to party or who loves cycling, because that's going to be a big one."

Dave Myers 'suffered secretly' as he said goodbye to Hairy Bikers before death
It's hard to believe it's been over a year since the world said goodbye to one half of the Hairy Bikers, Dave Myers. The TV chef, who also gained fame following his stint on Strictly Come Dancing, died following a courageous battle with cancer in February 2024. However, even though he was very open about his cancer journey, it's recently been revealed he was suffering with something in "secret". According to his wife, Liliana Myers, there was a lot of "pain" people didn't get to see, esepcially when it came to Dave saying his final farewell to the Hairy Bikers, and she recently detailed some of it in a heartbreaking Facebook post. Liliana wrote: "Heads up… BBC have been in touch to say they have planned in a repeat run of the 7-epsiode series 'The Hairy Bikers Go West' from Tuesday, July 15 July at 7pm. This is Dave's last series, filmed while he was in treatment… the one I couldn't bring my self to watch. "I talk about this in my book 'Dave & Me', about the effort, the pain, the suffering he was going through while working on this series…but also about his joy of doing what he loved one more time. "For many reasons this series is heartbreaking for me to watch, as I know how unwell he was and what a superhuman effort he made to finish the series. But also, I'll never forget the look on his face once filming was done. He knew it would be his last…my brave man!" Since Liliana shared the post, it has been liked thousands of times and dozens of people offered words of support. People admitted they thought Dave was a "lovely man." One touching tribute read: "I watched the series a couple of times with my dad and cried my way through the last few episodes. A tremendous testament to Dave's courage, determination and his huge personality.
