United States vs. Costa Rica odds, predictions: Gold Cup best bets, picks Sunday
The U.S. Men's National Team took the first step toward getting back on track at the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The Yanks went 3-0-0 with a plus-seven goal difference (eight goals for, one goal against) against Trinidad & Tobago, Saudi Arabia and Haiti.
That's not exactly a murderers' row. Still, you can only play the team in front of you, and considering the state of Team USA — on and off the pitch — before the tournament, it is encouraging to see the Stars & Stripes get through to the quarterfinals without any strife.
The Americans now set their sights on Costa Rica on Sunday night.
Team USA is a -400 favorite to advance and is currently sitting at -190 odds to win the match inside 90 minutes.
Gold Cup: United States vs. Costa Rica betting preview
This looks like a mismatch on paper.
The Americans, even without many of their top players, should be able to roll over Los Ticos.
Like any team in CONCACAF, Costa Rica won't shy away from turning this into a physical, whistle-filled grind, recognizing that that's their best path to success.
Team USA will be desperate to avoid having this match turn into a rock fight, and the best way to do that is to get on the board early.

An early goal by the Americans will force Costa Rica to come out of its shell, which would be a massive boost for Team USA's chances of winning this match.
Against previous iterations of Costa Rica, the job of getting on the board early and overrunning them was easier said than done, but this version of Los Ticos is showing to be quite vulnerable defensively.
Suriname scored three goals and created 1.4 expected goals on seven shots on target against Costa Rica, while the Dominican Republic created 1.6 xG in their match with Los Ticos.
Costa Rica did hold Mexico in a nil-nil draw, but El Tri dominated that match with 70 percent possession, 1.8 expected goals and 15 total shots.

Gold Cup: United States vs. Costa Rica pick
The Americans should be on the front foot from the beginning in this match, and I like their chances of opening up this match and making it uncomfortable for Costa Rica.
There are plenty of ways to bet into that narrative, but my favorite is backing Team USA on the alternate spread of -2.5 goals at +440 odds.
The Play: United States -2.5 (+440, FanDuel)

After missing Tour Championship, Xander Schauffele weighing start before Ryder Cup
Was the fan behavior at the BMW Championship a "harbinger" for things to come at the Ryder Cup? Joel Beall discusses this and his read on Keegan Bradley's captains picks for Team USA, including himself. Xander Schauffele isn't at East Lake for the first time in his career, the result of a rib injury that cost him two months at the start of the season. He never quite found any momentum in his game with his swing out of sync. 'It would be nice to have three months off. That would be ideal if we were being honest,' Schauffele said at the BMW Championship . 'I feel like I need to get as far away from golf as possible very soon. That's how I feel.' That's not the reality, however. Schauffele had such a big year in the majors last year — winning the PGA Championship and The Open, top-10 finishes in the other two — that he was among the first to clinch a spot on the Ryder Cup team. Three months? The Ryder Cup starts in 38 days. Schauffele was among the players who confirmed to The Associated Press in July that the U.S. team planned to play at the Procore Championship in Napa, California, the week of Sept. 8-14, two weeks before the Ryder Cup. The exception would be Bryson DeChambeau, suspended when he bolted to Saudi-funded LIV Golf in 2022 and then was among those who sued the PGA Tour. It might also be missing Schauffele. 'I'm not sure,' Schauffele said when asked if he would be there. 'I haven't signed up yet. It would be nice to play, but if I don't think playing is going to help me, then I won't play.' Despite his recovery from a rib injury that led to his swing getting out of sorts, Schauffele extended his cut streak to 71 — exactly halfway to the record held by Tiger Woods. He also managed six finishes in the top 12 and two top-10s in the majors. 'I think I understand more than I did before,' he said. 'The frustration before was more not understanding why I was doing certain things. Now I know why I'm hitting it bad and don't know how to fix it. So, frustration for different reasons. I don't know what's worse.' He kept his attitude in good shape — the California native is renowned for his positive attitude regardless of his results — and he looks forward to sorting it out. 'I love golf. I love trying to figure it out,' he said. 'But it's been a trying year. I definitely need to hit the reset button. The next step will be to come back with a solid plan and stick to it.'

USA Hockey Invites 44 NHL Players To Olympic Orientation Camp: Full List
USA Hockey announced 44 players will head to the U.S. men's Olympic orientation camp in Plymouth, Mich. The camp, scheduled for Aug. 26 and 27, is mainly for administrative and team-building purposes and does not feature any formal on-ice activity or public component. All but one of Team USA's players at the 4 Nations Face-Off will attend after finishing second in that tournament. Matthew Tkachuk will not attend, but a player does not have to be at the orientation camp to be on the final Olympic roster, USA Hockey said. Tkachuk was already one of six players named to Team USA, with the others being Jack Eichel, Auston Matthews, Brady Tkachuk, Quinn Hughes and Charlie McAvoy. Only five of the invitees have played in the Olympics before. Patrick Kane was at the 2010 and 2014 Olympics, while Ryan McDonagh was on the 2014 team. Brock Faber, Matthew Knies and Jake Sanderson were college hockey players on Team USA at the 2022 Olympics, which did not feature NHLers. After the Americans won gold at the IIHF men's World Championship for the first time in 92 years, 12 players from that squad are part of the orientation camp as well. Goaltenders Joey Daccord and Jeremy Swayman are among that group, as well as Clayton Keller, Tage Thompson and Zach Werenski. USA! USA! Americans Embarking On World Hockey Domination When USA defeated Sweden 5-3 in the gold-medal game of the Hlinka Gretzky Cup on the weekend, it marked the second time less than three months that the Americans have won a tournament that they traditionally almost never win. The 44 invitees consist of 25 forwards, 15 defensemen and four goaltenders. Hockey Canada, meanwhile, invited 42 NHL players to its men's Olympic orientation camp, which included 26 forwards, 13 defenders and three goaltenders. Here's the United States' full list of orientation camp participants. Forwards Matt Boldy Cole Caufield Logan Cooley Kyle Connor Jack Eichel Conor Garland Jake Guentzel Jack Hughes Patrick Kane Clayton Keller Matthew Knies Chris Kreider Dylan Larkin Auston Matthews J.T. Miller Frank Nazar Brock Nelson Shane Pinto Jason Robertson Bryan Rust Tage Thompson Brady Tkachuk Matthew Tkachuk Vincent Trocheck Alex Tuch Defenders Brock Faber Adam Fox Luke Hughes Quinn Hughes Noah Hanifin Seth Jones Jackson LaCombe Charlie McAvoy Brett Pesce Neal Pionk Jake Sanderson Brady Skjei Jaccob Slavin Alex Vlasic Zach Werenski Goaltenders Joey Daccord Connor Hellebuyck Jake Oettinger Jeremy Swayman The final American men's Olympic hockey roster is expected to be announced in early January 2026. Robinhood app now comes with NFL, college football predictions
Robinhood said Tuesday that its U.S.-based customers now can trade on outcomes of the most popular pro and college football games. In February, a report indicated millions of Americans sought help for gambling addiction in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's 2018 ruling to allow states to legalize online sports betting. File (2024) Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Financial marketplace Robinhood said Tuesday its newly launched predictive market in its app will allow customers to trade on a series of different professional and college football outcomes. Robinhood Derivatives LLC said that, within the Robinhood app via the Prediction Markets Hub, its U.S.-based customers now can trade on outcomes of the most popular pro and college football games, which includes all regular-season matchups and college Power 4 schools and independents, according to company officials. "Adding pro and college football to our prediction markets hub is a no-brainer for us as we aim to make Robinhood a one-stop shop for all your investing and trading needs," JB Mackenzie, Robinhood's VP & GM of Futures and International, said in a statement. Mackenzie described American football as "the most popular sport" in the nation. Robinhood officials said pro and college football prediction markets are "rolling out now" and will be available to eligible customers in the next few days. Robinhood Derivatives is a separate but wholly-owned entity of Robinhood Markets. According to Robinhood, its customers can access contracts in real time and manage risk "by adjusting -- or exiting -- their positions up to and throughout a game before a contract expires." In February, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission ended its investigation into Robinhood Crypto, saying it will not pursue further action with company officials adamant it never should have been opened to start. A report the same month indicated that millions of Americans sought help for gambling addiction in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's 2018 ruling that allowed states to legalize sports betting.
