SharpLink Gaming Boosts Ethereum Treasury to 188,478 ETH With $30M Purchase
The Minneapolis-based firm bought 12,207 ETH for some $30.7 million between June 16 and June 20 at an average price of $2,513 per coin, according to a press release.
To fund the purchase, SharpLink raised $27.7 million in net proceeds through its at-the-market (ATM) offering, selling over 2.5 million shares.
SharpLink in one of the growing group of public companies that recently pivoted to add cryptocurrencies to their balance sheets, following the playbook of Michael Saylor's bitcoin-focused Strategy (MSTR).
The latest move follows a $450 million fundraising round earlier this month through a private round from a wide range of investors, including ConsenSys, Galaxy and Pantera Capital, to buy ETH. Ethereum co-founder and ConsenSys CEO Joseph Lubin also joined the firm as board chairman. The firm now claims the bragging right of being the largest publicly traded holder of ether globally with some $470 million in ETH at current prices.
Since launching its ETH treasury strategy, the company said it has staked all its crypto stack earning 120 ETH in rewards. The company also reported a nearly 19% increase in ETH per share during that span.
"This move reflects our confidence in Ethereum's utility and our commitment to exploring transformative technologies that can unlock new value for our business and stockholders, alike," Lubin said in a statement.Sign in to access your portfolio

Trump ‘really likes' TikTok— but admin warns Chinese ownership not acceptable as dead deadline looms
President Trump likes TikTok but the Chinese-owned short video app, used by some 170 million Americans, has to move to US ownership, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick said on Sunday. 'The President really likes TikTok, and he said it over and over again, because, you know, it was a good way to communicate with young people,' Lutnick said in an interview on Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream. 'But let's face it, you can't have the Chinese have an app on 100 million American phones, that is just not okay. So, it's got to move to American ownership, it's got to move to American technology, American algorithms,' he said. 'I know the President is positive towards TikTok, if it can move into American hands.' Advertisement TikTok parent ByteDance has a Sept. 17 deadline to divest the platform's US assets. Last month, President Trump extended by 90 days to Sept. 17, a deadline for China-based ByteDance to divest the US assets of TikTok. Trump's action took place despite a 2024 law that mandated a sale or shutdown by Jan. 19 of this year if there had not been significant progress. 3 President Trump has set a Sept. 17 deadline for Chinese firm ByteDance to divest TikTok's US assets. Getty Images 'China can have a little piece or ByteDance, the current owner, can keep a little piece. But basically, Americans will have control. Americans will own the technology, and Americans will control the algorithm,' Lutnick said. Advertisement 'If that deal gets approved, by the Chinese, then that deal will happen,' he added. 'If they don't approve it, then TikTok is going to go dark, and those decisions are coming very soon.' 3 A deal that was in the works this spring that would spin off TikTok's US operations into a new US-based firm stalled. Chidori_B – A deal had been in the works this spring that would spin off TikTok's US operations into a new US-based firm, majority-owned and operated by US investors. This stalled after China indicated it would not approve it following Trump's announcements of steep tariffs on Chinese goods. Trump has three times granted reprieves from federal enforcement of the law that mandated the sale or shutdown of TikTok that was supposed to take effect in January.

How ethereum rose to become a mainstream cryptocurrency
The Ether Machine, a new crypto venture formed through the merger of Ether Reserve and Dynamix Corporation (DYNX), is preparing to go public after raising over 400,000 ether (ETH-USD), equivalent to $1.5 billion, offering the public a new way to access cryptocurrency yields. The news came after a week when the ethereum cryptocurrency surged by over 20%, leading some to predict that it could pass $4,000 and sending long-term predictions into the $10,000s. Ether Machine isn't the first firm to do this. BitMine Immersion Technologies (BMNR), chaired by Fundstrat's Tom Lee, announced plans to begin stockpiling ether back in late June. SharpLink Gaming (SBET), a Nasdaq-listed sports-betting technology company, made a similar move in late May when it named Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin as its new chairman. Further adoption of the blockchain into the mainstream in recent months has supported ethereum's rise, including Robinhood's (HOOD) introduction of ethereum staking in the US and the passage of the stablecoin-focused GENIUS bill through the US Senate. Here's what to know about ethereum and what sets it apart from other blockchains. What sets ethereum apart? Ethereum is a decentralized blockchain platform that hosts programmable contracts and other cryptocurrencies. Its native crypto token, named ether but sometimes referred to as ethereum, is now the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, topped only by bitcoin (BTC-USD). A 'blockchain' is a digital record of transactions and other data. New 'blocks,' or batches of validated records, are added onto the publicly accessible chain, referencing previous ones, so that anyone using a blockchain agrees on the current state of finalized transactions. 'Transactions are entered, and then they are immutable," Algorand Foundation CEO Staci Warden told Yahoo Finance. "It is about integrity. You know when something is entered, nobody else can mess around with it.' In addition to ether and other popular cryptocurrencies, over 50% of all stablecoins in circulation are hosted on ethereum, and the platform can also be used to exchange NFTs and more, according to Galaxy. One major difference in how these transactions take place on ethereum compared to the bitcoin blockchain is that ethereum includes functionality for users to create and use so-called smart contracts. Smart contracts are programs that can execute financial operations when conditions are met, often used to develop applications known as decentralized finance or DeFi apps. These 'dapps' offer a variety of financial services without the middleman of traditional financial institutions. For example, a smart contract could be set up to automatically initiate a purchase once a cryptocurrency hits a certain price. For some, the fact that smart contracts can't be altered once put on the blockchain and that they operate based on code instead of being manually performed by an individual or institution are benefits of the system. How it began Ethereum launched on July 30, 2015, as 'Frontier' after raising $18 million in an initial coin offering (ICO) the year prior. The release followed a period when ethereum encouraged users to stress-test the blockchain by offering a prize of 25,000 ether. In 2016, ethereum network participants attacked a decentralized autonomous organization, or DAO, which had raised ether through crowdfunding. The users targeted a vulnerability in DAO's smart contracts and stole over $50 million worth of ether. To reverse the attack, ethereum created a controversial 'hard fork,' in which they rolled back the blockchain's history to before the theft. While most adopted this new blockchain, some refused and stuck with what is now known as Ethereum Classic. Since then, ethereum has continued rolling out updates, including a series known as 'The Merge' conducted in 2022. With it, ethereum switched from using proof-of-work for blockchain consensus to proof-of-stake, separating it from peers like bitcoin. Proof-of-work blockchains function through the work of 'miners,' or specialized computers that contribute computational power to validate transactions using cryptography. Miners are rewarded with newly issued cryptocurrency for the amount of computing power they contribute to verifying transactions. Under the proof-of-stake system, however, security comes from users locking a certain amount of the cryptocurrency they own into a smart contract as collateral before they can be selected to add new blocks of validated transactions to the blockchain. According to the Ethereum Foundation, this switch alone cut the platform's energy consumption by 99.5%, and co-founder Vitalik Buterin claimed that it would reduce the world's energy consumption by 0.2%. 'With climate concerns and ESG-investing remaining a major topic for institutional investors, ethereum's drastic energy reduction could open doors for additional capital flows and longer-term sustainability,' Tom Dunleavy, a senior research analyst with Messari, told Yahoo Finance. Broader adoption Since its launch, ethereum has drawn attention from investors and organizations alike. Visa (V) began settling transactions using the USD Coin (USDC-USD) stablecoin on the ethereum blockchain in 2021. 'The announcement today marks a major milestone in our ability to address the needs of fintechs managing their business in a stablecoin or cryptocurrency,' Visa chief product officer Jack Forestell said. 'It's really an extension of what we do every day, securely facilitating payments in all different currencies all across the world.' More recently, with stablecoin legislation passing this June, Wall Street executives, including JPMorgan Chase (JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon and Citigroup (C) CEO Jane Fraser, have indicated interest in working with crypto assets. Public figures have also joined the movement to adopt crypto. In February, Eric Trump posted to X, saying, 'In my opinion, it's a great time to add $ETH.' His words reflect a presidential administration that has been supportive of cryptocurrency. President Trump's Media & Technology Group filed to list an ETF that included ether, and the president celebrated the passage of the GENIUS Act on Truth Social. 'HAPPY CRYPTO WEEK!' Trump posted last week. 'This is our moment — Digital Assets, GENIUS, Clarity!' David Hollerith contributed to this post. — Nina is a data reporting intern for Yahoo Finance.

What's Next for Hyperliquid's HYPE Token? What Wall Street and Analysts Are Saying
Michael Saylor's controversial bitcoin treasury strategy is no longer fringe — it's being mimicked across corporate America. According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, companies have raised more than $85 billion in 2025 to buy cryptocurrencies for their corporate treasuries — more than double the amount raised in U.S. IPOs this year. Unlike in 2020, when MicroStrategy's Saylor stood alone in selling shares to buy bitcoin, a new wave of companies — from toy manufacturers to semiconductor firms — is executing similar strategies with institutional backing. Capital Group, Galaxy Digital, and D1 Capital are among the firms pouring cash into companies that raise funds to accumulate digital assets directly. The surge has extended beyond bitcoin to include lesser-known tokens, often with higher risk-reward profiles. One of the most prominent examples is Hyperliquid Strategies Inc. (HSI), a public crypto treasury company being formed to hold large reserves of HYPE, the native token of the Hyperliquid blockchain. How HSI Was Created: Atlas and Sonnet Join Forces The HSI initiative was first disclosed on July 14, when Sonnet BioTherapeutics (SONN) announced a reverse merger with Rorschach I LLC, a newly formed vehicle backed by Atlas Merchant Capital, Paradigm, and other high-profile crypto investors. The deal will transform Sonnet into a platform for executing a corporate crypto treasury strategy focused not on bitcoin or ether — but on HYPE, the native token of the Hyperliquid blockchain. Upon closing, the combined entity will be renamed Hyperliquid Strategies Inc. (HSI) and continue trading on the Nasdaq Capital Market. HSI will initially hold 12.6 million HYPE tokens, valued at $583 million at the time of signing, and will deploy at least $305 million more to acquire additional HYPE on the open market. If fully executed, this will create one of the largest institutional reserves of a single altcoin ever disclosed. According to Atlas CEO Bob Diamond, a former CEO of Barclays, who will chair the new company, the opportunity is not just financial — it's strategic. In his words, "We think HYPE is pretty special." Diamond said the team believes Hyperliquid offers a differentiated offering in the digital asset space, and that HSI is uniquely positioned to take advantage of it because of its mix of crypto-native and traditional financial leadership. Matt Huang, co-founder of Paradigm, said institutional demand for Hyperliquid has been rising, but noted that direct access to the HYPE token is still limited in the U.S. While Sonnet will become a wholly owned subsidiary of HSI and continue to manage its biotech programs, the company plans to divest non-core assets. Existing investors will receive contingent value rights (CVRs) tied to Sonnet's therapeutic portfolio. The board of HSI will include Bob Diamond and Eric Rosengren, the former president of the Boston Federal Reserve, alongside incoming financial leadership. The deal is backed by Galaxy Digital, Pantera Capital, D1 Capital, Republic Digital and 683 Capital, and is expected to close in the second half of 2025. What Is Hyperliquid, and How Does the HYPE Token Work? Hyperliquid is the name of a decentralized exchange (DEX) and a high-performance layer-1 blockchain launched in 2023. It was designed to offer the speed and trading experience of centralized exchanges with the transparency and permissionless access of decentralized finance (DeFi). Its infrastructure includes two core layers: HyperCore, which powers high-speed spot and perpetual futures trading with on-chain order books —supporting over 200,000 orders per second. HyperEVM, a general-purpose smart contract layer compatible with Ethereum, enabling developers to build DeFi applications that can interact with HyperCore's liquidity. HYPE is the native token of the Hyperliquid ecosystem. It is used for staking, governance, trading incentives and as the core asset for value capture across the network. As of the time of writing, HYPE is the fifteenth largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization and Hyperliquid has processed over $1 trillion in cumulative trading volume. Analyst Commentary: Strong Fundamentals, Diverging Views The surge in institutional attention hasn't settled the debate around HYPE's valuation — despite its strong rally earlier this quarter from a low of $37.41 to nearly $50 (reached on July 14). At the time of writing, according to CoinDesk Data, HYPE is trading at $42.77, down 3.69% in the past 24-hour period. Crypto analyst "McKenna" suggested on Saturday that HYPE may still be undervalued based on revenue metrics. He estimated that if the token were trading at the same valuation multiple (known as SWPE, or sales-weighted price-to-earnings) it reached during its last market peak, its current 30-day average revenue of $3.2 million would imply a fair price of $77. His analysis uses a ratio comparing market cap to trailing platform revenue — a common method in both equity and token analysis. By contrast, "Altcoin Sherpa" signaled caution earlier today. While he praised HYPE's fundamentals — including high user activity, reliable tokenomics and strong team execution — he stated that the move from $9 to over $40 likely exhausted the short-term upside. He said he was holding a small staking position for long-term exposure but was not actively accumulating more at current prices. He suggested he'd wait for a more substantial pullback before increasing his allocation. The two views illustrate a key tension: even with high revenues and institutional backing, tokens like HYPE can become overextended in the short run — especially when driven by narrative momentum and speculative capital. Institutional Altcoin Bets Are Just Getting Started Whether HYPE continues climbing or cools from here, the creation of Hyperliquid Strategies Inc (HSI) marks a turning point in how corporate crypto treasury strategies are being executed. Unlike earlier models that focused on bitcoin as a digital reserve asset, HSI is being built around a single altcoin that didn't exist a year ago. With more than $888 million in combined token and cash commitments, the structure resembles a thematic crypto fund — but with a public listing and institutional leadership. If this approach proves successful, more firms may follow — raising capital not just to hold crypto, but to take concentrated positions in tokens they believe will define the next phase of digital finance.
