Red Sox Trade Scenario Would Cut Ties With Alex Bregman in Deal With Mets
The Boston Red Sox are 1 1/2 games out of a wild card entering play on Tuesday. With a little over a month until the trade deadline, could they consider becoming sellers?
The Red Sox will have many attractive pieces should they decide to sell at the trade deadline. Alex Bregman signed a three-year, $120 million deal with the team in the offseason, but he has an opt-out after the season. ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan suggested he could be traded to the New York Mets.
The Mets have been without Mark Vientos, who is currently on a rehab assignment. He was hitting .230 before his injury, but was starting to heat up. In his last 18 games, he had a .254 average with a .704 OPS. He will likley slot back in as the team's everyday third baseman, but adding Bregman could make Vientos the designated hitter.

Maddie Malhotra/BostonVientos could be an upgrade at DH over the Mets' current options, and the move would be well worth it to add Bregman's bat to the lineup. The Red Sox could lose Bregman in free agency if he opts out. Bregman was slashing .299/.385/.553 with 11 home runs before his injury.
He was having a career year at the plate, so it's not wild to think he will opt out and look for a better deal on the market. If the Red Sox start to fall out of contention, trading Bregman to a contender could set them up for the future and allow them to make Marcelo Mayer the everyday third baseman.

Red Sox Make Jarren Duran Trade Decision Ahead Of Deadline: Report
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Boston Red Sox are one of the more intriguing teams to follow at the trade deadline. For a while, it seemed like they would be big-time sellers with players like Jarren Duran and Aroldis Chapman likely landing on the market. But Boston quickly turned its season around following the blockbuster trade of Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. Since then, the Red Sox have gotten hot. They've turned their season around and look to be buyers at the trade deadline. Bob Nightengale of USA Today recently reported it was unlikely the Red Sox would trade Duran this season, despite the surging rumors that they would opt to do so. BOSTON, MA - JULY 25: Jarren Duran #16 of the Boston Red Sox is congratulated in the dugout after scoring against the Los Angeles Dodgers during the third inning at Fenway Park on July 25,... BOSTON, MA - JULY 25: Jarren Duran #16 of the Boston Red Sox is congratulated in the dugout after scoring against the Los Angeles Dodgers during the third inning at Fenway Park on July 25, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts. More"The Boston Red Sox have no plans to trade outfielder Jarren Duran at the deadline, rejecting the San Diego Padres' offers, and are more likely to move him this winter," Nightengale wrote. A Duran trade could make sense because the Red Sox have a bit of a logjam in the outfield, but when looking to chase a World Series, it's better to have too much talent than not enough. Holding onto Duran seems like the logical move. Then, in the offseason, the Red Sox could trade Duran as the centerpiece in a deal to land another ace to place atop the rotation alongside Garrett Crochet. A deal for Washington Nationals ace MacKenzie Gore could make sense in the winter months. Either way, the San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, and Philadelphia Phillies will likely need to turn elsewhere to find the outfield help they need at the trade deadline. It seems like Duran is staying in Boston. More MLB: Mariners 'Aggressively Pursuing' Trade To Reunite With $66 Million Slugger

ESPN names ‘best fits' for Red Sox ahead of MLB trade deadline
The MLB trade deadline is 10 days away and the Boston Red Sox have made it clear they want to bolster their roster. How they end up doing that remains unclear, but ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel tabbed eight players as 'best fits' for Boston. Here are the candidates: No. 4: Sandy Alcantara, starting pitcher for Miami Marlins (No. 3 last time) No. 8: Kris Bubic, starting pitcher for Kansas City Royals (new) No. 11: Mitch Keller, starting pitcher for Pittsburgh Pirates No. 13: Merrill Kelly, starting pitcher for Arizona Diamondbacks No. 14: Josh Naylor, first baseman for Arizona Diamondbacks No. 15: Ryan O'Hearn, first baseman for Baltimore Orioles No. 17: Taj Bradley, starting pitcher for Tampa Bay Rays No. 18: Edward Cabrera, starting pitcher for Miami Marlins The Red Sox could certainly be in the market for a first baseman after Triston Casas suffered a ruptured patellar tendon that will sideline him for the remainder of the season. The corner position has been an issue since Casas' injury between lack of depth and Rafael Devers' — who was ultimately traded to the San Francisco Giants — unwillingness to move to first. And while Romy Gonzalez and Abraham Toro have filled in fine at first since Casas' injury, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said the Red Sox will be "open-minded about the opportunities to bring in a bat that can play first base." The Red Sox would also benefit from adding pitching helping — both starters and relievers after losing Hunter Dobbins for the year due to a torn ACL and Tanner Houck remaining on the injured list after his rehab assignment. Lucas Giolito and Brayan Bello have shown signs of improvement, but starters not named Garrett Crochet have struggled to find a consistent groove. Boston is in a Wild Card position and is looking to return to the postseason for the first time since 2021. It's an important deadline for Breslow, who's been adamant about improving the team come the July 31 deadline. More Red Sox coverage Could Red Sox land starting pitcher from Diamondbacks?
