Government to issue work order for new PMAY-G houses from Nov: Minister Rabi Narayan Naik

BHUBANESWAR: The state government will start issuing work order for construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) to new beneficiaries from November.
This was informed by Panchayati Raj and Rural Development minister Rabi Narayan Naik after returning from New Delhi on Thursday. He said nearly 38 lakh applications for the housing assistance have been received during the recent survey conducted to identify left out and new beneficiaries. The verification of the online and offline applications are on. It is expected that the verification of applications will be over by October, he said.
The minister said around four lakh houses sanctioned since 2016 have remained incomplete and necessary instructions have been issued to officials concerned to ensure that the houses are completed by October.
According to survey report, a total of 37,89,234 applications have been received out of which 12,09,963 people are from Scheduled Tribes, 7,55,542 from Scheduled Castes and 85,640 from people with disability. The number of landless applicants are 2,01,011. Aadhaar verification of 37,28,149 applications has been completed, out of which 36,49,295 applicants have completed e-KYC authentication.
He said the ministry has developed AwaasSAKHI (Support Application for Knowledge, Help and Innovation), an innovative mobile application designed to streamline access to PMAY-G by consolidating key information. This application will curb fraudulent activity and provide information on possible malpractices.
'It will be ensured that not a single eligible person is left out. All homeless and landless people will have pucca house of their own and there will be no kutcha house in the state,' he said.
The state has received cumulative sanction for 28.49 lakh houses under PMAY-G out of which, 23.97 lakh have already been constructed. Around 60,000 houses have been allocated to beneficiaries under Antyodaya Gruha Yojana.
The state government has made a budgetary provision of `4,500 crore under PMAY, `2,603 for Antyodaya Gruha Yojana and `795 crore for PMAY-Urban for the current financial year.

OHRC asks govt to pay Rs 20k interim aid to families ‘evicted' for airstrip

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has asked the govt to pay an interim compensation of Rs 20,000 to each of the 26 families who were evicted by the Mayurbhanj administration on March 26 for the development of Dandbose airstrip under Rairangpur block. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Out of the 43 evicted families, 17 have already received assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). OHRC passed the order on July 29 after hearing a petition filed by affected residents of Pokharia village and activists, including Biswapriya Kanungo and Narendra Mohanty, on April 8. The affected persons present at the hearing submitted that they never gave consent to vacate their land. They were evicted forcibly with only one month's notice, during summer. Earlier, the Rairangpur tehsildar and other officials disconnected electricity supply to their houses without listening to their requests, they alleged. Despite the recommendations of the commission, temporary shelters were not provided to the affected, stated the OHRC order. "In the scorching heat, 43 families of tribals residing on the govt land under Rairangpur tehsil were evicted without following the procedure of law, resulting in a violation of human rights," the order added. The commission took cognisance of the matter and recommended that the Mayurbhanj collector provide immediate temporary shelter to the affected people. The investigating wing of the commission also visited the site. A report was also furnished by the district collector, tehsildar and BDO concerned. However, the Mayurbhanj administration, in its report, stated that there was no forcible eviction. "As they were residing by encroaching on the govt land identified for the development of Dandbose airstrip under the UDAN scheme in the public interest, they were evicted by following the due procedure of law," read the report. Better socio-economic conditions sans discrimination for Scheduled Tribes is the true Kerala Story, says CM

T'puram: CM Pinarayi Vijayan said the real 'Kerala Story' is the fact that Scheduled Tribes or indigenous people live in better socio-economic situations without facing caste discrimination or attacks and with better access to education, health, jobs, job training, land and housing in the state. Govt will also socially utilise the knowledge of indigenous people and scientifically preserve indigenous medicine, agriculture, seeds and products. Speaking at the golden jubilee of the Scheduled Tribe Development Department, Vijayan said, "Many students are also pursuing courses abroad, pilot training, air hostess and airport management. Dreams that were once considered impossible for the tribal communities have been made possible through govt's efforts. This is the true Kerala story." "Govt is giving significant consideration to ensuring education for all tribal students without any dropouts. Around 4.50 lakh students from the Scheduled Castes and 80,000 students from the Scheduled Tribes are studying with scholarships. The increasing number of students each year is an indicator of social progress among the tribal communities," CM said. He said significant progress was made in making landless tribals landowners. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? Once the distribution of land from Marianad estate in Wayanad is completed, the number of landless tribals in that district will become negligible. Thiruvananthapuram already became the first district without landless tribals. Soon, Kollam and Malappuram will also achieve this status," he added. "Under the Forest Rights Act, 566 forest villages where individual records were granted have been converted into revenue villages. The land of 29,422 families in these forest villages is being included in the revenue village to make them eligible for subsidies and mortgaging," Vijayan said. The progressive govts that came to power since 1957 have been undertaking activities to uplift tribal communities and the LDF govt has ensured continuity in the past nine years, said Vijayan. "This commitment is evident in the allocation of funds. Tribals constitute 1.45% of Kerala's population and state govt allocates 2.83% of the annual plan budget for their welfare and development. At the national level, only 3.08% of the budget is allocated for tribals, who make up 8.06% of the population," he said. Very clear political direction for Op Sindoor, no restrictions imposed on us: IAF chief

NEW DELHI/BENGALURU: The govt did not impose any operational restrictions on the armed forces during the May 7-10 hostilities against Pakistan, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh said on Saturday, with the forces themselves deciding all the rules of engagement. "There was very clear political will, very clear directions that were given to us, and there were no kind of restrictions put on us," the Indian Air Force chief said at the 16th Air Chief Marshal LM Katre memorial lecture in Bengaluru. "We, the armed forces, decided what will be the escalation ladder that we want to ride on. We decided how we want to control the escalation. So, I want to make it very clear, there were no restrictions on us," the ACM added. The remarks are significant since the opposition has attacked govt on Operation Sindoor by latching onto some remarks made by India's defence attache to Indonesia, Captain Shiv Kumar, in a seminar there on June 29. He had said the IAF lost some fighters on May 7 because of the "constraint" given by the political leadership to target only the nine terror hubs and not attack Pakistan's military establishments and air defences on that day. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These 11 Everyday Foods Might Be the Key to Knee Pain Relief Undo The IAF chief, however, said "full freedom was given to us to plan and execute" the strikes. "I must say that our attacks have been calibrated because we wanted to be mature about it," he said. There was a lot of planning and discussion among the chief of defence staff General Anil Chauhan and the three Service chiefs, with national security advisor Ajit Doval also playing "a very big role" in getting all the forces and agencies together, ACM Singh said. After the Pahalgam terror massacre on April 22, it was decided the response could not be limited to the usual objectives. The aim this time was to strike not just the foot soldiers of terrorism, but the leadership infrastructure that sustained them, ACM Singh said. While seven targets close across the border were targeted by the Army, the IAF took on the main headquarters of the Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke and Jaish-e-Muhammed in Bahawalpur that were further away. The two headquarters were hardened, well-defended structures, with the long-range strikes aimed at leadership residences, other housing for operatives and the spaces used for congregations and training, with a strict emphasis on minimising civilian casualties. This time there was also emphasis on getting video and other footage of the "hits" on different targets. The absence of such evidence during the air strikes on the Jaish-e-Muhammed terror facility at Balakot in Feb 2019 had led some quarters to doubt the claims at that time. "So, I am very happy that this time we were able to take care of that ghost of Balakot," ACM Singh said.
