Fever's Caitlin Clark out vs. Liberty with right groin injury

Clark has already missed 10 regular-season games and the Commissioner's Cup win over the Minnesota Lynx with left quad and a left groin injuries.
The Fever are 5-5 without Clark this season and sit at 12-10 in the final game before the WNBA All-Star break.
Clark, a first-team All-WNBA selection last year, is slated to start in Saturday's All-Star game. As a team captain, she selected the players who will suit up for her team. She and Lynx forward Napheesa Collier, the other captain, received the highest amount of fan votes in the All-Star balloting.
Clark is also slated to participate in the 3-point contest on Friday. She is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and five rebounds in 13 games this season.

Fifteen of the leading lights in Ulster in the 2025 season… and the fearsome team they would make up

The 2025 inter-county season has come to an end and Belfast Telegraph Sport has taken on the unfavourable challenge of selecting the Ulster Team of the Year. Just to make things more difficult for ourselves, we also decided to put a three-player cap on each county, meaning that there can only be a maximum of three Gaelic footballers from any one team selected – apart from Donegal, who were awarded an extra name seeing as they won the provincial title and went the furthest in the All-Ireland series.

Former Finals MVP Emma Meesseman to make Liberty debut vs. Sun

August 1 - Forward Emma Meesseman signed a contract with the New York Liberty on Friday morning, the team announced. Terms of the deal were not disclosed for Meesseman, who will debut Friday night as the Liberty (17-9) bid to snap a season-worst three-game skid against the Connecticut Sun (4-21) in Uncasville, Conn. Meesseman, 32, is two-time All-Star and the 2019 WNBA Finals MVP. Her arrival comes at an opportune time given that two-time WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks with a bone bruise in her right knee. "Emma Meesseman's return to the WNBA is a tremendous moment for our league, and the fact that she chose New York for her next chapter speaks volumes," Liberty general manager Jonathan Kolb said. "She is one of the most skilled, intelligent, and unselfish players in the world and her presence elevates everyone around her. Emma brings invaluable experience, championship pedigree, and a unique versatility that fits seamlessly into our group as we continue our relentless pursuit of a title in 2025." The 6-foot-4 forward last played in the WNBA in 2022 for the Chicago Sky, averaging 12.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 36 starts. Prior to that, she played seven seasons with the Washington Mystics. She has career averages of 11.5 points, 5.3 boards and 2.6 assists in 238 games (186 starts). She played in Europe following her stint with the Sky. Meesseman competed in the 2025 FIBA EuroBasket tournament with her native Belgium this summer, guiding the team to the championship while earning her third MVP honor in the last four years. --Field Level Media

Skidding Sky seek to tighten up defensively vs. Valkyries

August 1 - Mired in a season-long six-game losing streak, the Chicago Sky return home Friday to take on the Golden State Valkyries. The Sky (7-19) lost Ariel Atkins to a leg injury at the start of the losing streak and received just seven games out of Courtney Vandersloot before she was lost for the season with a knee injury in June. Rookie Hailey Van Lith (ankle) has missed the past two games as well. Angel Reese returned from a back injury and collected 22 points and 13 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 103-86 road loss to the Washington Mystics on Tuesday. Chicago dabbled with a zone defense that proved to be problematic. "We really are just trying this on the fly," Sky guard Rachel Banham said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "Teams are doing a good job getting in the middle, finding those gaps. It's a work in progress." The Sky could have Atkins and Van Lith back for against the Valkyries and are set to debut point guard Sevgi Uzun, who was just signed for the remainder of the season. Uzun has 47 games (19 starts) of WNBA experience over the past two seasons. The expansion Valkyries (13-13) enter off a 68-67 road victory over the Mystics on Thursday. Golden State is back to .500 after it slipped under the break-even point after losing five of six games from July 5-16. The victory came with a number of key pieces missing, including Cecilia Zandalasini (ankle). Zandalasini had 18 points and hit the game-winning shot in a 77-75 victory over the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday. The Valkyries scored just six points in the fourth quarter but won by holding the Mystics to one field goal over the final 7:20 of the game. "I don't even look at the six points, I look at the score," Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase said. "Both teams couldn't move that scoreboard at all, and so I was like, 'Hey, look, we're still up.' ... I thought that was a really good execution on the defensive end." Golden State is also 3-1 since leading scorer Kayla Thornton (14.0 points) was lost for the season to a knee injury. Monique Billings (7.5 points) has played nine minutes over the past four games because of an ankle injury. --Field Level Media
