'One of our own' - fans on Son exit

BBC News5 days ago
We asked how you were feeling about the departure of Son Heung-min.You told us:Diana: A True Spurs legend. I am so sad he is leaving hopefully he can come back and get a great send off. Hope he does well in the MLS but wish he wasn't going.Christopher: To me, Son Heung-min is, and always will be, 'one of our own' because he represents everything that is good about Tottenham Hotspur, everything the club traditionally stands for especially, in this sometimes strange age. Perhaps his loyalty, outward love of the club and continuous endeavour should be noted above all else - a rarity in the modern era - or his abundance of skill. But it is his demeanour both on and off the pitch that will see him celebrated forevermore not only by supporters of Spurs but, I should think, by fans of all other clubs across Great Britain and the world.A lovely chap, whose smile and distinctive laughter alone would, more than likely, unite a room full of strangers. He not only had time to give to absolutely anyone but a genuine desire to do so. Very few people have believed in Tottenham Hotspur and the community quite like he has and his absence from N17 will be widely felt for some time. There can be no doubt whatsoever that he is a 'legend' and I will miss him dearly.Jonathan: Sonny has been immense for Spurs and I'm so happy he capped it with the trophy. It's probably the right time to go leaving with his legacy and our gratitude. Will always be remembered as a legend!Thom: Many players score and make great goals but very few are distinguished by the ability to express joy in playing the game and to inspire joy in fellow players and fans. Sonny did just that and his legacy will endure.Dan: I admit I'm quite sad at the news. Son has been more than a great player for us. He's been a great Captain and ambassador. But at least he's going on his terms. That's the very least he deserves and Spurs fans should be grateful to have watched him at his prime. Seeing him lift the Europa League trophy, that amazing goal against Burnley, his partnership with Kane. Thank you for the great memories Sonny!! You'll be dearly missed!

Revealed: The comments that confirm Rebekah Vardy won't fulfil her dream of moving to Beckham's precious Miami

has quickly killed off Rebekah Vardy's hope that her husband Jamie might move to Miami to play football. The WAG set the internet ablaze with speculation over her husband Jamie's, 38, next club after a playful social media post on Tuesday. Leaving Leicester City after a 13 year stint, the question as to where he and his family might go next has been the question on everyone's lips. Just days ago Rebekah, 43, posted an image of three of their children wearing each of Inter Miami's kits on Instagram. But now sources close to Beckham's club, which he has co-owned since 2018, have said Jamie is not being offered a place at Inter Miami. 'There is absolutely no way Vardy is joining the MLS outfit,' they said. The new comments are thought to have shattered Rebekah's dreams of moving to the Florida coast as she was hoping to follow in Posh and Beck's footsteps (pictured in May 2025) 'No one at inter Miami will have heard of him, they just signed Rodrigo de Paul who won the World Cup with Argentina. 'They don't sign people at the end of their career. It was nice of them to buy the kits though. Rebekah's post had many convinced that the England international was set to join a star-studded roster led by Lionel Messi, that includes his former Barcelona team-mates Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, as well as his Argentina colleague Rodrigo De Paul. Last month the Mail revealed Rebekah's hopes of moving to the coastal city. Sources said it would be a 'perfect ending' for Rebekah - meaning she would get to rub shoulders with the real Posh and Becks as well as other members of football's A list. It's know that the Beckham's are a couple who very much value their privacy. Rebekah on the other hand has been known in recent years for leaking stories about her fellow WAGS: her humiliating, and costly, 2022 High Court showdown with Coleen came after the latter laid a trap to expose her as the source of several personal stories in the press. Vardy sued for libel - and lost, leaving her with legal bill of around £3 million. A friend of the Vardys told the Mail: 'There are loads of whispers in football about where Jamie might end up next – there is talk of one of the showier Championship clubs like Birmingham City or Wrexham or even Glasgow Rangers but that really wouldn't cut it for Becky. 'Miami is much more glamorous, they often holiday there, and look at what it has done for the Beckhams. Getting big in the US has turned them into global stars. If Jamie could engineer a move to Inter Miami then Becky would be absolutely delighted. Imagine the life that would give her. 'She's obsessed with the idea of moving in the same circles as Victoria and David. She sees herself as a natural fit: glamorous, bold, headline-grabbing – and she knows America could have a lot of commercial opportunities unlike places like Saudi Arabia. 'They went to the Middle East to check it out but it's not really what she's looking for, even for big money. You can just see her enjoying the whole lifestyle out in the States.' Late last year the David and Victoria Beckham broke records after they purchased a £60,000,000 Miami mansion. Now with the family spending a lot of their time there, the Beckham's upgraded from their former £15million Florida home which they bought in 2020. Former England captain Beckham exercised an option in his contract with his former Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy to buy an expansion franchise in 2014. He launched the team in Miami in 2018, before confirming it would be called Club Internacional de Futbol Miami, or Inter Miami CF. It made its MLS debut in 2020. The former Manchester United midfielder finished his playing career in 2013 with 718 appearances, 127 goals and 214 assists. He played 115 times for England and is now worth a whopping £455 million.

Jermain Defoe tells Tottenham to sign 'special' £68m star ahead of Arsenal

Jermain Defoe says Eberechi Eze looks like a 'Tottenham player' and would be a welcome addition to Thomas Frank's squad this summer. Eze enjoyed an excellent Premier League campaign with Crystal Palace last term, racking up eight goals and eight assists for Oliver Glasner's side in the English top flight. But it was in the FA Cup final that Eze reached his greatest height yet, with the 27-year-old firing home the only goal in the Eagles' famous victory over Manchester City at Wembley. In the intervening weeks and months, though, Eze's future has been the subject of intense speculation and there are doubts as to whether the England international will still be a Palace player come the start of the season. Eze has a £68million release clause in his contract at Selhurst Park – which remains valid until August 15 – and Arsenal and Spurs are both considering moves for the former QPR man. Recent reports suggested Eze was 'open' to the prospect of rejoining Arsenal, 14 years after being released by the Gunners' academy as a teenager. But confirmation on Thursday that James Maddison had suffered a serious knee injury has amplified calls for Tottenham to step up their pursuit of Eze – and Defoe believes the Palace star would be a great fit. 'Eze is someone who, if this makes sense, is a Tottenham player. He's someone that plays with freedom,' the ex-Spurs and England striker told talkSPORT. 'You look at the great players over the years that the club have had and technically how good he is, how confident he is, he's another special footballer. 'If that can happen then, of course, it's only good for the team because, obviously, when you get these injuries, especially long-term injuries, you need to replace these players.' While Spurs have also been credited with an interest in Jack Grealish, Everton have emerged as the frontrunners to secure a deal for the Manchester City outcast in recent days. 'Everton sort of makes sense for Grealish. He's got to play football and, obviously, it is close to Manchester so it makes sense for his family and stuff like that,' Defoe said of Grealish's options. 'Everton are an amazing club. They've got a new stadium and an amazing and experienced manager in David Moyes. He'll give him the freedom to go and express himself.' Defoe has been encouraged by Tottenham's transfer business across the summer and hopes the club's new signings 'hit the ground running' under new manager Frank. 'Joao Palhinha is a top, top player. He's only going to improve the squad and the team,' he added. '[Mohammed] Kudus is someone I've liked for a long time, even before he went to West Ham and you've seen in pre-season already what he brings in terms of how dynamic he is, how strong he is. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'Even when he was at West Ham, I still believed he could do a lot more in terms of goals and assists so hopefully he'll bring that this season. 'But we'll see. I think it's important to start well. I know sometimes you can start slow and end up doing well. 'We started well when Nuno [Espirito Santo] was there and with Ange [Postecoglou], I think in the first ten games when he first came in people were talking about Tottenham winning the league. 'You have to start well and try to maintain it, but with the new signings hitting the ground running, that's really important. 'The new manager will demand that anyway and he'll drive those messages with the staff that are there every single day.' Which club is better suited to Eze? Tottenham confirm major injury blow as James Maddison faces knee surgery

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison is set to miss the majority of the new season after the club confirmed he has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Maddison missed the end of the 2024-25 campaign with a knee injury, but returned last month to feature in pre-season under new boss Thomas Frank. England international Maddison continued his comeback with a substitute appearance in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle in South Korea on Sunday, but collapsed in pain with no one around him and subsequently left the pitch on a stretcher in the 86th minute. Spurs' worst fears have now been confirmed with Maddison set to undergo surgery in the coming days on his ACL injury. We can confirm that James Maddison will undergo surgery for a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in his right knee. We will be supporting you every step of the way, Madders 🤍 — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) August 7, 2025 'We can confirm that James Maddison will undergo surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee,' a club statement read. 'The 28-year-old midfielder suffered the injury during our pre-season friendly against Newcastle United on Sunday in Seoul. 'His surgery will take place in the coming days and, following that, James will then begin his rehabilitation with our medical team. 'Everyone at Tottenham Hotspur wishes James a full and speedy recovery. We will be supporting him every step of the way.' This news will be a major blow to Spurs head coach Frank, who was already light on attacking midfielder options with Dejan Kulusevski set to miss the start of the season after he had surgery on his right patella in May. Kulusevski's ongoing rehabilitation meant Tottenham were targeting a new number 10 this summer regardless of Maddison's comeback last month. Spurs failed in their efforts to tempt Morgan Gibbs-White away from Nottingham Forest in July and now face greater urgency to sign an attacking midfielder. No timeline has been provided for Maddison's recovery, but an ACL injury tends to sideline a player for between six to 12 months and could rule the England international out of next summer's World Cup. Maddison ruptured his ACL in Son Heung-min's final match for Tottenham before his move to Los Angeles FC. The departure of Son, Spurs' captain last season, and the prolonged absence of vice-captain Maddison will also take away a wealth of experience from Frank's squad ahead of a campaign where they will be expected to juggle Premier League and European commitments better than they managed in the injury-ravaged 2024-25 term.
