New call limits in place for inmates at Virginia Beach Correctional Center

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Beach Correctional Center's phone provider will soon only allow one free 5-minute call a month instead of per week. On Friday, ViaPath Technologies issued a statement to provide an update on changes in the Free Communication Program. Beginning June 1, one free 5-minute call a month will be granted for inmates. The Free Communication Program was adopted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and encouraged connections for inmates during the uncertain time. Five years later, the commitment has continued and has led to more than 100 million free calls for incarcerated individuals. 'We are committed to ensuring that each and every incarcerated individual has access to a baseline of free communication options,' the statement reads. Continue to check for updates.
