Oklahoma Sooners have the toughest schedule in college football, per 247Sports
The league's schedule-makers didn't do the Sooners any favors last year, with a gauntlet of a slate, especially compared to conference foes like Texas, who played just two league opponents with a winning conference record. OU, by comparison, played six, not including the Longhorns themselves.
With the eight conference opponents in 2025 merely flipping from 2024, Oklahoma again will have to navigate a brutally tough schedule in a pivotal season in Norman. And once again, their archrivals will get the easy end of things for the second straight year, playing only Georgia and Texas A&M.
Brad Crawford, who writes for 247Sports, ranked the ten toughest schedules in college football for 2025. He ranked OU's gauntlet as the hardest in the entire country. He projected that the Sooners will play a ridiculous eight ranked opponents in one season.
No one's taking up a plate and offering relief for Brent Venables' program in 2025, which is coming off a disappointing finish and landed quarterback John Mateer in the portal in hopes of reversing fortunes. Five other SEC teams made the list, all within the top seven. Mississippi State, Florida, Arkansas, LSU, and Vanderbilt will also be facing quite a brutal road in 2025.
Oklahoma adds a big nonconference bout with Michigan to their league slate. Fortunately, their other three nonconference games are against Illinois State, Temple, and Kent State.
However, that's where the easy things end. OU's conference schedule features home games against Auburn, Ole Miss, Missouri, and LSU. Those games are interspersed with road tilts against South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama. Throw in the yearly neutral-site game against Texas, and you've got a schedule that looks even tougher than last year's.
Entering a crucial season for the program, Venables and his team will have to pull it together and be better than just about everyone is expecting. Otherwise, there will be big changes coming to one of college football's premiere programs.

Paired with junior linebacker Taurean York, the former three-star recruiting prospects have surpassed their expectations and will be heavily relied upon throughout the 2025 season. This week, PFF released its "50 best players" list, comprised of the site's top-ranked college players heading into the fall. Unsurprisingly, Adams landed at No. 16 and is the fourth offensive lineman ranked below Clemson's Peter Woods (No. 3), Utah tackle Spencer Fano, and Florida center Jake Slaughter. "Reed-Adams dominated in his first year with the Aggies. The Kansas transfer ranked second in PFF overall grade, PFF run-blocking grade and PFF WAA among Power Four guards. He is a powerful player at 6-foot-5 and 330 pounds who can excel in any run-blocking scheme. Reed-Adams led all Power Four guards in gap PFF run-blocking grade and ranked fourth in zone PFF run-blocking grade this past season." Linebacker Taurean York is regarded as the best or second-best prospect at the position behind former Texas A&M commit Anthony Hill Jr., who has since thrived during his last two seasons with the Longhorns. York's instincts and elite run-stopping ability should result in his best season yet as he continues to improve in coverage. Just a three-star recruit, York hasn't let his recruiting profile dictate his college career. He has been a starter in each of his first two college seasons and leads all returning Power Four linebackers with 59 run-defense stops since 2023. His 122 plays with first contact on ball carriers are tied for fourth in the Power Four. York has a stocky build at 6 feet and 235 pounds, and he is an excellent tackler. In the upcoming College Football 26 video game, Adams possesses the highest rating on the team (93), with York tied for third (90). Tulsa World's Berry Tramel revealed why the Clay Bennett-led group would be interested in selling the Thunder. Advertisement "A source close to Thunder Chairman Clay Bennett told the Tulsa World that the rising value of NBA franchises makes it quite likely that the Thunder's partners will want to sell soon. "And now that a championship parade has come to downtown OKC, there is one fewer reason for the ownership group to retain the franchise. Apart from bringing an NBA franchise to their home state, the owners have achieved the ultimate goal, winning the O'Brien Trophy. ''Soon' is a variable. The owners could wait until the Thunder's new $1 billion arena opens in 2028, which will be another landmark event for the franchise, city, and state." Bennett's Professional Basketball Club LLC had purchased the Seattle SuperSonics for $350 million in 2006. He had promised to keep the team in Seattle, but failure to secure public funding for a new arena meant he moved the team to Oklahoma before the 2008-09 season. Advertisement The expectation is that the new ownership group would keep the team in Oklahoma City. There would be a heavy penalty for moving, as per the lease with the new arena. Relocation within five years of playing there would incur a $1 billion fine, which would drop to $850 million if the exit comes in years six through 10. As for how much the Thunder would go for, Forbes valued them at $3.65 billion in 2024. The price might have gone up, though, based on some recent sales. The Boston Celtics, the 2024 NBA champions, were sold for $6.1 billion earlier this year to a group headed by Bill Chisholm, the managing partner of Symphony Technology Group. The Thunder's ownership would be following in the Celtics' lead if they sell the team right after winning it all. More recently, the Buss family agreed to sell the majority stake of the Los Angeles Lakers at a $10 billion valuation to Mark Walter, the CEO and chairman of diversified holding company TWG Global. Advertisement Now, the Thunder are not the Celtics or the Lakers, so it's unlikely they'll be sold for more than $5 billion. Still, Bennett and his group would get a great return on their investment. The James Harden debacle aside, Bennett has proven to be a good owner for the Thunder. The team has a 793-565 record under his leadership and has made the playoffs 12 times in 17 seasons. The Thunder finally won that elusive championship this year, and the future is extremely bright at this point. '..anything can change' Texas A&M still in the thick of 2026 4-star Edge's recuitment
Texas A&M's 2026 edge class is in great shape with commitments from four-stars Jordan Carter and Samu Moala, and five-star Tristian Givens, while five-star Anthony "Tank" Jones recently included the Aggies in his final three program list. However, four-star edge rusher KJ Ford out of Duncanville (TX) also placed A&M in his final three program list, but the competition is fierce ahead of his announcement on Thursday, July 10. Right now, Ford is favored to land with the Gators, but with six days remaining, it's anyone's game, as Ohio State and the Aggies are still in the thick of his recruitment. However, Elko and defensive line coaches Spencer and Tony Jerod-Eddie will need to pull out all the stops, which will include a strong NIL pitch, similar to Texas Tech's landing of five-star tackle Felix Ojo over Texas on Friday. According to AggieYell recruiting insider Landyn Rosow, Florida will remain the favorite, but in today's college football landscape, anything is possible. "Texas A&M has been making Ford a priority over the past few years, but over the past few months I've got the sense that these two parties are heading different directions, and the Gators have been trending behind scenes. My On3 RPM has reflected that. Now, there are still eight days until he makes his decision, and with how college football is, anything can change." Ford has been one of the most productive defenders in Texas over the past two seasons, racking up 57 tackles, seven sacks, 16 tackles for loss, and 15 hurries during his 2024 junior season. Staying with Rosow's assessment, 247Sports' Mike Roach still believes that Texas A&M and Ohio State could be significant factors in the final days, given each program's recruiting momentum this summer. According to 247Sports, Ford is currently positioned as the 98th-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 11th-ranked edge, and the 16th-ranked prospect in Texas.
