Karel Vejmelka, Utah shut down Flames
Kevin Stenlund and Clayton Keller also scored for Utah (34-29-12, 80 points), which has won two straight.
The hero, however, was Vejmelka, who made 11 of his 33 saves in the third period while the Flames frantically pushed for the equalizer and controlled the play.
Vejmelka, who made his 18th consecutive start between the pipes, loomed especially large with saves on Blake Coleman and Matt Coronato on successive chances early in the third period and then against Joel Farabee when the Flames were on the power play.
Rasmus Andersson replied for the Flames (35-27-12, 82 points), whose playoff hopes took a huge hit. Dustin Wolf stopped 25 shots.
The Flames are six points behind the Minnesota Wild for the Western Conference's second wild-card spot. Calgary has eight games remaining, one more than the Wild. Utah is eight points behind the Wild, with seven games remaining.
Utah won all three meetings with the Flames this season.
Amidst a low-event first period, Stenlund opened the scoring at the 17:46 mark, blasting home a one-timer from the slot, where he sneaked in unnoticed and took a slick pass from Alex Kerfoot.
Hayton doubled the lead in a wild turn of events in the second period. The Flames appeared score, but video review ruled the puck had not completely crossed the line. Once play resumed, Hayton slipped a backhand through Wolf's legs to make it a 2-0 game at 2:25.
Andersson provided the Flames a sorely needed boost when he finally put them on the board at the 13:00 mark of the second period. His long point shot made it through the screen and inside the far post.
Calgary came close to tying the clash, but all hopes were dashed when Keller netted an empty-net goal with 18 seconds remaining.

Dundee Utd knock back Will Ferry MLS transfer bid as Tannadice club eye James Penrice style fee
The Major Soccer League transfer window closes this week and it remains to be seen if the American side comes back in Dundee United have knocked back a major six-figure bid for Will Ferry. Record Sport understands the offer has come in from a Major League Soccer side but is well short of United's valuation. It remains to be seen if the club from the Western Conference side comes back in with an increased offer before the MLS transfer window closes on Thursday night. The Tannadice club is under no financial pressure to sell and would only let one of their prize assets go if they were to receive a significant offer. Ferry was ranked as one of the standout full-backs in Scotland last season when it came down to the data analytics, while he also holds up well in leagues across Europe. and Hibs sold Lewis Miller to Blackburn for a deal that could net them £1.5million. Ferry is very much at that same level and it would take a decent seven figure bid to even get United to the table. Jim Goodwin 's side are also in a good place because Ferry is still under contract for this season and next. The 24-year-old has also been named as United's vice captain and also skippered them through their Conference League campaign. Ferry's form has also not gone unnoticed by Ireland and he is very much on the radar for a full call-up. He has previously been capped at under-21 level but new national coach Heimir Hallgrimsson has had him scouted and he is very much in his thinking. Ferry has been something of a coup since Goodwin signed the wing back from Cheltenham last summer and he was a key figure in their fourth place finish.

Ex-NBA star looks unrecognizable in rare public appearance after bike accident that left him paralyzed
Nearly five years after former NBA star Shawn Bradley was paralyzed in a tragic biking accident, he was spotted in his wheelchair over the weekend at BIG3 basketball. Bradley, accompanied by his wife Carrie, was seen interacting with NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal and then posing for photos with the Hall of Famer. On Jan. 20, 2021, Bradley was rear-ended by a motorist while cycling near his Utah home, leaving him with a traumatic spinal-cord injury. No one was ever cited in the accident. The now-53-year-old underwent neck fusion surgery and spent eight weeks undergoing rehabilitation at a local hospital. Bradley ranks tied for third as the one of the tallest players in NBA history at 7-foot-6, alongside Tacko Fall and Yao Ming. Only Gheorghe Muresan and Manute Bol, who have both been listed at 7-foot-7, were taller players to suit up in an NBA uniform. Shaq & Shawn Bradley at the BIG3 — (@Ballislife) August 17, 2025 Bradley, a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, retired from the NBA after the 2005 season. Bradley became an avid cyclist after retiring from the NBA in 2005, saying that the hobby helped him shed over 30 pounds at one point thanks, in part, to several rides of 100 or more miles. He was the No 2 overall pick out of BYU in the 1993 NBA Draft to the Philadelphia 76ers. In his third season, Bradley was traded to the New Jersey Nets in exchange for Derrick Coleman, and later ended up as a Dallas Maverick as part of the deal that sent Sam Cassell and Jim Jackson to the Eastern Conference. It was with the Mavericks that Bradley hit his stride in the NBA, averaging 2.1 blocks a game over nine seasons. Over the years, Bradley has feeling in one hand and increased movement of his chest and back.
