Gratitude, compassion can help overcome mental health issues: Expert

Prayagraj: A seminar on critical mental health issues like anxiety, fear, stress and addiction among students was held at Jagat Taran Golden Jubilee School on Wednesday. The two-hour seminar, featuring wellness and mental health coach Subroto Biswas, was titled "Worrying is an Option Not Compulsion". School principal Sushmita Kanungo highlighted the importance of addressing mental health in today's dynamic world. She emphasized that conducting such sessions is a crucial step towards educating students about managing their mental wellbeing. Biswas described worry as an imaginary and unproductive habitual thought process that everyone engages in, leading to severe psychophysiological reactions like shortness of breath, rapid heart rate, confusion, fear, anxiety and sweating. He explored the nature and functioning of the mind, illustrating the relationship between thoughts and feelings. Biswas explained that feelings act as alarm bells, signaling that thoughts are being misused. "Understanding how the mind works can help students effectively handle negative emotions such as mood swings, fear of failure, peer pressure, stress, jealousy, and the ups and downs of daily life with greater ease and comfort," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The session was interactive, allowing students to discuss real-life challenging situations where they felt worried.
