Not KL Rahul! Sourav Ganguly Calls This 36-Year-Old A Special Player

Sourav Ganguly has commended Ravindra Jadeja's stellar performance in England, emphasising his key role in partnerships.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has said that Ravindra Jadeja has been exceptional in the ongoing tour of England, with the star allrounder playing crucial roles in building partnerships with top-order batters on most occasions and in a desperate situation, with two tailenders as well.
Down and out at 112/8, Jadeja (61 not out off 181) took the match deep with the help of ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah (5 off 54) and Mohammed Siraj (4 off 30) before ending up on the wrong side of the result in a match for the ages.
In an extended afternoon session, Jadeja batted alongside Bumrah and Siraj to take the visitors to 30 runs shy of the winning target of 193.
Ganguly was all praise for Jadeja for his brilliant fight that kept India in the hunt in the Lord's Test.
'Jadeja has been exceptional, he is going to continue to play for India as long as he bats and performs like this. He has been around for a long time. He has played some 80 Tests and more than 200 ODIs," Ganguly said while speaking to the media at an event in Mumbai.
'You can see him batting, bowling and fielding. He is a special player, and his batting has improved over the years with experience. He is a special player and a very important part of this team," Ganguly added.
It was Jadeja's fourth fifty in a row and came in the most trying circumstances with India staring at a big loss to England.
Jadeja's effort created a glimmer of hope for India. With the last batting pair of the allrounder and Nitish Reddy in the centre, India struggled to 95/7 after the first hour of play.
The track was playing its tricks, and Jadeja and Reddy looked to defend rather than counterattack. England skipper Ben Stokes, the warrior that he is, bowled a nine-over spell during which Reddy drove him through the cover to claim India's first boundary in 80 deliveries.

First Time In 10 Years, India Create Bizarre Record As Manchester Test Defeat Looms

Last Updated: India have conceded first 500+ total in overseas Test in a decade as England dominated with 544/7 in Manchester. In what has come as a bizarre addition to India's disappointing streak of performances in Tests over the last 10 months, they conceded their first-ever 500+ total in an overseas Test innings in over a decade, as England posted 544/7 at the end of the third day's play in Manchester, with 600 also in sight with skipper Ben Stokes still at the crease. The last time India conceded a 500+ total in an overseas Test innings was in January 2015 during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney, when Australia declared on 572/7 batting first, riding on centuries from David Warner and skipper Steve Smith. Mohammed Shami had taken five wickets in that innings. The match ended in a draw. Meanwhile, on Friday, ace England batter Joe Root produced a batting masterclass on his way to a milestone 38th century as England exploited a jaded Indian bowling attack to stamp their dominance on the fourth Test in Manchester. Root made a sublime 150 off 248 deliveries while the other contributions came from Stokes (77 batting off 134) and Ollie Pope (71 off 128), a day after the openers put a pedestrian-looking Indian attack to the sword. Root reached his 12th century against India as England extended their dominance over the visitors, reaching 433/4 at tea. In the morning, the Indian bowlers didn't pose enough threat for Root and Pope, who steered England to 332/2 at lunch. After a forgettable evening session on the second day, the Indian bowling attack once again couldn't make inroads into the England batting. Ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled a full ball into Root's pads to start his day and the England veteran flicked it for a boundary. Later in his spell, Pope and Root were quick to pull Bumrah for a four each when he pitched it short. Resuming the day at 225/2, England eased to 266/2 in the first hour of play. 'False Alarm?': AIFF Faked Xavi's Head Coach Application To Boost Profile, Claim Reports

Last Updated: Sources close to the Barcelona legend claimed that the Spaniard never applied for the job and opined that the AIFF used his name to increase the appeal around the vacancy. A day after news circulated that decorated former Spanish midfielder Xavi had tossed his name in the hat for the vacant role at the helm of the Indian national football team, sources close to the World Cup winner claim that the All Indian Football Federation misused the legend's name in order to boost the profile of the job. Indian football has been in the doldrums, and the AIFF opened applications for the role of the head coach following the departure of Manolo Marquez. Sources close to the Barcelona legend claimed that the Spaniard never applied for the job and opined that the AIFF used his name to increase the appeal around the vacancy. Multiple big names, including the likes of Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, Stephen Constantine, Steve Kean, Khalid Jamil, Kibu Vicuna and Eelco Schattorie have expressed interest in taking over the mantle of the Blue Tigers, but AIFF reportedly cooked up Xavi's application. A member of the technical committee further went on to claim that despite the maestro's interest, the AIFF felt that the cost of hiring a global superstar would be too high considering the budget of the federation. The Barca faithful, Xavi was head coach at Al Sadd before taking over at Barcelona four years ago and led the Blaugrana to the La Liga title in his debut season as the head coach of his boyhood club. view comments First Published: July 26, 2025, 07:45 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Jasprit Bumrah Limps While Climbing Stairs To Dressing Room, Video Goes Viral

Last Updated: Jasprit Bumrah's ankle injury during the Manchester Test has raised concerns for India as they face potential series defeat. Ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah was seen limping while climbing the stairs at the Old Trafford stadium on Day 3 of the Manchester Test, raising concerns about his fitness even as India stare at a series defeat, with England bagging control of the fourth Test and the visitors' injury list increasing. Bumrah was unavailable to bowl for a while during the first two sessions of the Manchester Test, after he reportedly twisted his ankle while climbing up the stairs. As the overs ticked by and Joe Root, along with England skipper Ben Stokes, neutralised the new ball, Bumrah's continued absence started to be felt. As the next over got underway, Bumrah appeared uncomfortable while fielding near the boundary. His expression said it all; he wasn't at full fitness. 'It's a good sign that Bumrah is back on the field, but it's a bad sign that he went off the field. However, it looks like he is grimacing a little bit. Doesn't look comfortable; he is reaching down at his left ankle," former Australia captain Ricky Ponting said while commentating. 'Keep those fingers crossed for India's sake that he can come back and bowl straightaway. He has been off for a few overs now. I think he will probably have to serve another 10-12 minutes before he can bowl," Ponting added. Bumrah has been earmarked for three Tests in the series while Mohammed Siraj has played all four matches thus far. The signs of fatigue are showing, with average speeds of Bumrah and Co. declining in the ongoing Manchester Test. 'We've got Siraj, we've got Bumrah, who has played a handful in the first and then Akash has played a little bit, but he's out injured. So, we continue to find ways to bring in new talent," bowling coach Morne Morkel said at the end of the day's play. 'Much better today with the ball. I thought yesterday was a tough day for us in the office. We missed our lines, putting us slightly on the back foot, but I thought the way the boys responded this morning, especially Siraj and Bumrah with the ball, was good to see," Morkel added. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
