Not KL Rahul! Sourav Ganguly Calls This 36-Year-Old A Special Player

Sourav Ganguly has commended Ravindra Jadeja's stellar performance in England, emphasising his key role in partnerships.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has said that Ravindra Jadeja has been exceptional in the ongoing tour of England, with the star allrounder playing crucial roles in building partnerships with top-order batters on most occasions and in a desperate situation, with two tailenders as well.
Down and out at 112/8, Jadeja (61 not out off 181) took the match deep with the help of ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah (5 off 54) and Mohammed Siraj (4 off 30) before ending up on the wrong side of the result in a match for the ages.
In an extended afternoon session, Jadeja batted alongside Bumrah and Siraj to take the visitors to 30 runs shy of the winning target of 193.
Ganguly was all praise for Jadeja for his brilliant fight that kept India in the hunt in the Lord's Test.
'Jadeja has been exceptional, he is going to continue to play for India as long as he bats and performs like this. He has been around for a long time. He has played some 80 Tests and more than 200 ODIs," Ganguly said while speaking to the media at an event in Mumbai.
'You can see him batting, bowling and fielding. He is a special player, and his batting has improved over the years with experience. He is a special player and a very important part of this team," Ganguly added.
It was Jadeja's fourth fifty in a row and came in the most trying circumstances with India staring at a big loss to England.
Jadeja's effort created a glimmer of hope for India. With the last batting pair of the allrounder and Nitish Reddy in the centre, India struggled to 95/7 after the first hour of play.
The track was playing its tricks, and Jadeja and Reddy looked to defend rather than counterattack. England skipper Ben Stokes, the warrior that he is, bowled a nine-over spell during which Reddy drove him through the cover to claim India's first boundary in 80 deliveries.

'Jassi Bhai, Mai 5 Wicket Leke Kisko Hug Karu?': Siraj's Emotional Goodbye To Bumrah

Last Updated: Mohammed Siraj has revealed asking Jasprit Bumrah to stay back despite being released from the squad, telling him that he'd want to hug the senior pacer after picking a fifer. Mohammed Siraj has dropped another proof of his eternal love and admiration for senior pace bowling partner Jasprit Bumrah. Siraj revealed that when Bumrah was leaving the squad in the lead-up to the game, the Hyderabadi asked him to stop, saying who he would hug after a five-wicket haul if not his Jassi bhai. Bumrah, having been rested from the final Test of the series, was released from the squad on July 31. Siraj didn't take a fifer in the first innings but picked up a brilliant four-wicket haul, helping India bowl England out for 247 and keep their first lead to a gettable 23 runs. 'Jassi bhai ko ye bola tha, bhaiya aap ja kyu rahe ho? Mai 5 wicket leke aake kisko hug karu? Toh unhone bola mai hu idhar hi, tu bas 5 wicket lele. (I asked Jassi, brother, why are you going? Who'll I come to hug when I take a five-wicket haul? He just said, 'I am here, you go and take five wickets')" Siraj revealed in a video on the after the day's play. In the same video, Prasidh Krishna, who also took four wickets in the innings to step up in Bumrah's absence, spoke about the fast-bowling group. 'Booms has been a great, great part of this. I think it's really important for us to enjoy each other. When you are on the field, you are speaking to each other and have that trust. That trust is only going to make the team better," Prasidh said. The BCCI's medical team had decided that it was only safe for Bumrah to play three Tests in the series to maintain his long-term fitness. He featured in the first, third, and fourth games. 'I and Siraj, we have been playing a lot for five years now. I played with him a lot in the IPL as well. We sit together a lot, spend a lot of time together. Same with Akash Deep. I think the fast-bowling unit is looking pretty good," Prasidh added. The visitors scored 75/2 in reply, taking a 52-run lead to Stumps. Any target of over 250 would be their aim, though it won't be easy on the quick green pitch at the Oval. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'Needed To Hear Those Words...': De Paul Opens Up Messi's Advice Following Miami Switch

De Paul revealed that he enjoyed playing alongside Lionel Messi in national colours, and added that playing for the same club would permit the duo to spend more time together. Inter Miami new recruit, Rodrigo De Paul, expressed his delight to be able to share the locker room with national side skipper Lionel Messi on the club level too, following his move to the MLS from La Liga side Atletico Madrid. De Paul revealed that he had always enjoyed playing alongside the eight time Ballon d'Or winner in national colours, and added that playing for the same club would permit the duo, who played a crucial role in Albiceleste's third World Cup title, to spend more time together. 'Every time we would meet in the national team, the day-to-day was amazing, but at the end of the day, it ended up being quite short," De Paul reflected. 'I also wanted to feel that sensation of playing alongside the best," he added. The Herons secured the 31-year-old on loan before the deal becomes permanent in 2026, with the transfer reportedly around £15 million. De Paul started his career at Racing Club before moving to Valencia in 2014. The midfielder joined Udinese in 2016, then moved back to La Liga with Atletico Madrid in 2021. De Paul had a couple of offers from European outfits ahead of his move to American shores, but the Argentine opted to play alongside Messi and expressed his interest in learning about the new territory he picked out. De Paul, widely recognised for his role as a defensive midfielder, joins the support team Miami has built around their superstar Messi. He follows in the footsteps of Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, joining the legendary player from Rosario in the United States after Messi's move last year. 'He told me, 'I know what you can give me on the field. I know who you are,'" De Paul revealed what his compatriot told him following his move to the Florida-based club. ''I'm only going to evaluate what you do on the field. As long as you play and you're feeling well, I know the class of player that you are.' I needed to hear those words," he averred. view comments First Published: August 02, 2025, 10:12 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. CM Punk Weighs In On Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev: 'It'll Look Like...'

Last Updated: Punk discussed the middleweight clash between Dricus du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev on August 16 in Chicago. Punk, a Chicago native, may attend with Belal Muhammed. WWE Superstar CM Punk recently weighed in on the much-anticipated middleweight clash between Dricus du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev that is set to take place on August 16 at the United Centre in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The UFC returns to the Windy City after a six-year absence, and therefore it is natural of the Chicago-born Punk to have a vested interest in the event. Punk himself has fought for the promotion on two occasions. However, to call his performances lacklustre would be an understatement, as he got utterly dominated and battered by his opponents. Regardless, his celebrity status as one of the biggest names to cross-over, alongside Brock Lesnar, who enjoyed much greater success inside the octagon, is undisputed. He has also stated that he might even make an appearance at the pay-per-view. 'I'm very excited, I'm probably ultimately going to be very disappointed too because I don't know if I can go to the show, I've got to look at my calendar," Punk told Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen on the recent episode of their collaborative show, Good Guy/Bad Guy. Dissecting the fight, he remarked, 'That's going to be a wild main event, man. That's going to be (wild). It's so hard to bet against Chimaev, you know, especially after what he did to (Robert) Whittaker but I think Dricus is really really smart, probably smarter than a lot of people give him credit for. 'He knows what his game plan is going to be, he knows Chimaev is gonna come and try to dive on an ankle right out of the gate so I'm sure he's doing his preparation, that's what's going to make this so fascinating. 'I don't know if I see this making five rounds and if it does, we're probably gonna have two very tired fighters and it'll look like Derrick Lewis vs (Francis) Ngannou," Punk said. CM Punk With Belal Muhammed? Punk, continuing on the podcast stated that he might make his appearance, sharing the spotlight with the former UFC welterweight champion, Belal Muhammed. 'Brother, I'm so busy, like it's absolutely insane. I know we're in Europe for a big chunk of August but I don't think it's until the last week of August so I've got to double check. Hopefully I'll be there, I'm gonna sit next to my bud Belal," Punk added. view comments First Published: August 02, 2025, 10:09 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
