Karachi, Apr 30 (PTI) The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday confirmed that Bangladesh will travel to the country next month for a five-match T20I series where Faisalabad will host international matches after a long gap of 17 years.
Bangladesh had toured Pakistan last year for a two-Test series which was a part of the ICC World Test Championship and returned home victorious, winning 2-0.
The scheduled white-ball series, which is part of the Future Tour Programme (FTP) originally consisted of three ODIs and three T20Is.
The PCB said that with the ICC men's T20 World Cup scheduled for next year, both the Boards mutually agreed to replace the ODIs with two additional T20Is.
The five-match T20I series will be played in Faisalabad and Lahore from May 25 to June 3.
This is the first time since April 2008 that an international match will be hosted at the Iqbal stadium in Faisalabad where 24 Test matches have been played in the past.
The PCB has held several domestic tournaments at the venue including the inaugural Champions One-Day Cup in September last year and National T20 Cup last month.
The first and second T20Is of the series, scheduled for May 25 and 27 will be held at Iqbal Stadium.
Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium will host the remaining three T20Is, scheduled on May 30, June 1 and 3.
Bangladesh team will arrive on May 21 and will undergo training sessions at the Iqbal Stadium from May 22-24. Team India's Asia Cup Squad: Ins, Outs From The Last T20I Series

There were several surprise selections in India's Asia Cup 2025 squad, which was announced on Tuesday in Mumbai. The squad was announced during a press conference attended by T20I skipper Suryakumar and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, which was held after a meeting between BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and the selection committee. India Test captain Shubman Gill, who last played a T20Is in July last year, was included in the squad. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah was also included, despite the recent talks over his workload issues. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Gill scored 650 runs in 15 innings at an average of 50.00, with a strike rate of 155.87, with six fifties and a best score of 93*, ending as the fourth-highest run-getter in the tournament. Gill replaced Axar Patel, who served as Suryakumar's deputy in the format during his absence. It is worth noting that Gill was the vice-captain during his last appearance in the format. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal 's snub was the other major highlight from the 15-member squad. Jaiswal was the back-up opener ahead of Gill for the T20 World Cup last year. He was the backup as India wanted to open with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Having made 723 runs in 23 T20Is with a century and five fifties at a strike rate of over 164 throughout his career, Jaiswal's 559-run IPL 2025 season (in 14 matches with six fifties at SR of almost 160), brought back the leftie into T20I conversations. Iyer ended up as the sixth-highest run-getter in IPL 2025 and had his best season, scoring 604 runs in 17 matches and innings at an average of 50.33, strike rate of 175.07 and six fifties. His best score was 97*. He played a massive role in taking PBKS to their first IPL final since 2014, but the team fell short by six runs to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). There were several exclusions in the team from India's last T20I squad, a five-match series in February 2025.

Ahmedabad to host three major international sports events in 2025

Agency: Ahmedabad, Aug 19 (PTI) Ahmedabad city will host three major international sports events, including the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, this year, it was announced on Tuesday. The three major competitions in 2025 — the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, the Asian Aquatics Championship, and the AFC Under-17 Asian Cup Football Qualifiers — will bring elite athletes from around the world to the Gujarat city, said an official release. Gujarat, long known for its trade and enterprise, is now poised to make its mark on the global sporting stage, it added. The prestigious Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2025 will be held at the Naranpura Sports Complex in Ahmedabad from August 24 to 30. More than 350 players from 29 countries will participate in the championship, said the release. This will be followed by the Asian Aquatics Championship in September-October, in which swimmers from countries like China, Japan, and Korea will participate. Notably, India is one of the seven host countries for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers to be held from November 22 to 30. All the football matches scheduled in India will take place at 'The Arena by TransStadia' in Ahmedabad. The qualifiers to be held in Ahmedabad will host Group D matches, in which countries such as India, Iran, Chinese Taipei, and Lebanon will participate. In 2026, Ahmedabad will also host the Asian Weightlifting Championship and the Archery Asia Para Cup — a world ranking tournament. Additionally, India has earned the honour of hosting the World Police and Fire Games 2029, and this prestigious international tournament will be held in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Ekta Nagar (Kevadia) in Gujarat. Recently, India's bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games was approved, and Ahmedabad has been selected as the host city for this prestigious event. All these events will prove to be an important step towards establishing the state as a multi-sport high-performance destination, said the release. With modern sports complexes and advanced facilities coupled with the new Sports Policy 2022-27, Gujarat has now become capable of hosting international-level competitions, it added. Visa Delays Disrupt Indian Boxers' UK Training Before World Championships

Last Updated: Indian boxers' training trip to the UK for the World Championships faces visa issues. Only four women boxers and a few coaches have reached as the rest await clearances in Patiala. The Indian boxers' planned training trip to the UK ahead of the crucial World Championships has faced obstacles due to visa-related complications. The squad was scheduled to travel on Sunday to participate in a multinational training camp in Sheffield, an essential preparation for the World Championships in Liverpool from September 4 to 14. However, only four women boxers and a few coaching staff members have managed to secure visas and reach the UK. The 10-member men's team and six women boxers are still awaiting their clearances and remain at the national camp in NIS Patiala. Currently, the male boxers have only one coach available, as three others, including head coach Dharmendra Yadav, are already in Sheffield. 'Yes, the three of us have reached here but all the (male) boxers are still waiting for their visas," Yadav told PTI. 'We had to start sparring in the multinational camp from Wednesday but we cancelled it as we don't know when the visa will arrive and when the boxers will be able to reach here." The Interim Committee, which is managing the day-to-day affairs of the Boxing Federation of India, said it's in 'constant touch" with Indian Embassy in the UK, Sports Ministry and the Sports Authority of India 'to help expedite the visa process". 'However, as the process is largely automated, interventions so far have not been able to resolve the delays," committee member Col Arun Malik said. 'That said, we have received 3 more visas, and 12 members of our 31-member contingent, including 4 women boxers, have already reached England. 'On our part, all logistical arrangements are ready, and the moment we have clarity, we will ensure that the remaining players travel to England without delay. We remain hopeful that the pending cases will be resolved soon, enabling the entire team to join the camp at the earliest," he added. Which Boxers Have Managed To Reach UK? Those who have reached Sheffield include two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen, Minakshi, Pooja Rani, and Nupur Sheoran. Meanwhile, Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain, Commonwealth Games bronze-winner Jaismine Lamboria, and Asian Games medallist Narender Berwal, among others, are still in Patiala. 'Four (female) boxers have reached and 2 coaches are there in the UK. I have received my visa but I stayed back for the BFI elections," said women's head coach D Chandralal, who is a representative of the Kerala boxing state unit for the August 21 BFI elections. 'But I have given the plan to the coaches there and they will conduct training according to that. They have some sparring sessions scheduled. In the meantime after the elections I'll stay with the rest of the boxers," he added. Sheffield, home to the Great Britain Boxing headquarters, is one of the sport's most prominent training hubs. The multinational camp, running from August 17 to September 1, features teams from Ireland, France, Germany, Uzbekistan, the USA, and Poland, among others. This edition of the World Championships will be the first to be held under the aegis of the new governing body, World Boxing. It will feature competitions across 10 weight classes for both men and women, and, for the first time, male and female boxers will compete in Olympic-style events at the same championship.
