Bangladesh to tour Pakistan for T20Is in May; Faisalabad to host international cricket after 17 years
Karachi, Apr 30 (PTI) The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday confirmed that Bangladesh will travel to the country next month for a five-match T20I series where Faisalabad will host international matches after a long gap of 17 years.
Bangladesh had toured Pakistan last year for a two-Test series which was a part of the ICC World Test Championship and returned home victorious, winning 2-0.
The scheduled white-ball series, which is part of the Future Tour Programme (FTP) originally consisted of three ODIs and three T20Is.
The PCB said that with the ICC men's T20 World Cup scheduled for next year, both the Boards mutually agreed to replace the ODIs with two additional T20Is.
The five-match T20I series will be played in Faisalabad and Lahore from May 25 to June 3.
This is the first time since April 2008 that an international match will be hosted at the Iqbal stadium in Faisalabad where 24 Test matches have been played in the past.
The PCB has held several domestic tournaments at the venue including the inaugural Champions One-Day Cup in September last year and National T20 Cup last month.
The first and second T20Is of the series, scheduled for May 25 and 27 will be held at Iqbal Stadium.
Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium will host the remaining three T20Is, scheduled on May 30, June 1 and 3.
Bangladesh team will arrive on May 21 and will undergo training sessions at the Iqbal Stadium from May 22-24. London [UK], June 7 (ANI): Josh Hazlewood believes he's in the best rhythm of his career as he targets a return to Australia's Test XI for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa at Lord's. After battling a series of injuries in recent years, the veteran seamer is aiming to fill one of the few remaining gaps in his stellar career. Hazlewood arrived late in the UK, alongside Josh Inglis, after completing a sensational Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he picked up 22 wickets and played a crucial role in their title-winning run. He has slowly eased back into red-ball preparation, bowling around five overs at moderate intensity during Australia's optional training session in Beckenham on Saturday. A more intense workout is planned at Lord's, where he is expected to ramp up to near full pace. If he pulls up well, Hazlewood will likely edge out Scott Boland for a spot in the starting XI. Since returning to the Test setup during the 2023 Ashes, Hazlewood has been in remarkable form, claiming 57 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 19.68. 'I just had more of an interrupted IPL leading into that, and then had a few little issues going on, so wasn't quite up to scratch, but I feel in a much better place this time around,' he added. 'And I think in any format, my numbers over the last two years have been pretty good, so have got a lot to fall back on in terms of skill wise. I still feel like I'm bowling probably the best over my career and it's just a matter of the body holding up, which it has been in the last few months,' he noted. 'I think the intensity is probably a big one for me to tick that box,' he said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. 'We're definitely adapting training to sort of get those back-to-back days in, get a big day, followed by another bowling session the day after and things like that, just to try and try and get our head around it and put ourselves in the best possible position we can be,' he noted. Hazlewood is optimistic that the slightly delayed conclusion of the IPL won't hamper his preparation. He remains confident about getting sufficient red-ball training under his belt before the final. 'I ticked over some good overs just before the final in Ahmedabad, in different weather than this,' he said. 'It was quite a tough session. And then every time you play a game in the IPL, you're probably going to get almost seven or eight overs in if you really want and around with warm-ups. I had a number of times where I bowled back-to-back days, again at high intensity, with the game being one of those,' he noted. One tactical adjustment the right-arm seamer is focused on in English conditions is pitching the ball a bit fuller. 'In the IPL games, I was probably hitting around that seven-to nine-meters in the powerplay, and not really threatening the stumps as much as you want to in Test cricket, in particular here in England,' he said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. 'So, it'll just be about pushing that length and touch fuller and still getting that zip through the keeper,' he added. The Australian quick also underlined the value of having a reliable allrounder in the side, a role shared by Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh, and, more recently, Beau Webster. While Green won't be available to bowl until later in the year during the Ashes, and head coach Andrew McDonald hinted that Webster's overs might not be required in the final, Hazlewood remains a firm believer in the balance an allrounder brings. 'I think it's huge,' he said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. 'I remember back to when we didn't have it was brutal. It was tough work. I feel like you're just continually bowling, like you're almost following the next guy at the other end, and then you're switching ends. Gazza (Nathan Lyon) is from one end, and we all rotate,' he added. 'So to have that bowler, (and) even to be honest, Travis (Head) and Marnus (Labuschagne), it only has to be a couple overs here and there just to give you that extra break to then be fresher, whether it be the second new ball or the next day or later on in the series. Kisik Lee Likely To Become India's Head Coach Ahead Of Los Angeles 2028 Olympics
Legendary Korean coach KiSik Lee, who led the USA to over 300 World Cup medals and three Olympic podium finishes, is all set to take charge as India's national archery head coach on a three-year contract in the lead-up to the Los Angeles Games 2028, a top Archery Association of India official confirmed to PTI on Saturday. The 67-year-old Lee has been shortlisted for the top job in the recurve section and the proposal has been forwarded to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for final approval. "Given his outstanding resume, he is the ideal candidate to guide India towards its first-ever Olympic medal in archery," the official said. "We've had several rounds of discussions with him, and he has agreed to commit to India till LA 2028." A bold gamble after years of heartbreak India's archery programme has long promised greatness but repeatedly faltered on the Olympic stage, often crumbling under pressure. Since Athens 2004, India has mostly relied on Korean foreign coaches, except for the 2012 London Olympics when the legendary Indian archer Limba Ram helmed the team. However, the results didn't change. Recently, Korean coach Baek Woong Ki was appointed as head coach at Paris 2024, but was denied accreditation due to the contingent exceeding its support staff quota. Preferred personal coaches and physios of top archers were prioritised, forcing Woong Ki to return to India before the Games began -- a controversy that underlined the lack of systemic clarity and cohesion. Why KiSik Lee? The AAI believes Lee brings more than just reputation. "He's not only a medal-winning coach but also a visionary who has transformed national systems -- something India urgently needs," the official said. Lee is globally respected for creating the USA's biomechanically sound "National Archery System" and mentoring multiple Olympic medallists, including world No. 7 Brady Ellison, who credits Lee with shaping both his career and character. "Coach Lee's impact is immeasurable," USA Archery CEO Rod Menzer had said when Lee announced he would step down after the Paris Games to focus on family. "He developed world-class athletes and inspired a generation of archers and coaches." Under his leadership, USA also won golds at indoor, outdoor, field, and 3D world championships. Lee was instrumental in nurturing youth talent through elite programs like the 'Junior Dream Team' and the 'Resident Athlete' programme at Chula Vista. Challenges and expectations Lee, who previously coached Korea and Australia, is known for using a drawing technique that is distinct from both the Indian and Korean methods. His appointment is expected to usher in technical innovation and mental resilience, glaring weaknesses in India's past Olympic campaigns. However, questions remain on whether India's senior archers, who often prefer personal coaches, will adapt. India's archery power couple Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari, who have seven Olympics in between them, recently roped in veteran Rahul Banerjee as their personal coach. The Army on the other hand have their own Korean coach. Dhiraj Bommadevara is the current Army man in the Indian team. "We have consulted the seniors, and we hope it will work out. If they want to continue with their coaches, that's fine. Lee can then focus on grooming young and mid-level talent," the AAI official added. "This is a long-term investment. He won't just train our elite archers but will also mentor grassroots talent and coaches. We are hopeful the results will reflect in Paris and culminate in LA 2028." The ball now lies in SAI's court and if approved, the Korean master tactician could be India's biggest hope yet to break its Olympic archery jinx.
