On Thursday, the Greater Sudbury Airport celebrated the launch of WestJet's first non-stop service between Sudbury and Calgary. When they saw the demand for flights, Perkins said they decided to add the service this summer. It marks the return of the airline to Sudbury, which departed in 2019. No. 1, give us choice on where to go,' she said. 'They want to be able to fly to different destinations and get there quickly and efficiently. So that's No. 1. No. 2 (is to) ensure that my trip is on time and that it is not cancelled.' The flight was a career highlight for pilot Sherry Stringer, a 22-year employee with WestJet who grew up in Sudbury. 'It definitely stemmed from flying with my dad,' Stringer said. 'We used to do a lot of fishing trips together in the float planes and ice fishing trips. Started taking lessons as a teenager and it's just evolved into this.' A thousand baby chicks flown from Alberta to Kelowna amid looming Canada Post strike
A thousand baby chicks recently took to the skies, flying from Alberta to Kelowna on a WestJet flight — and they landed chirping happily. 'They all look pretty happy — they had a nice flight in,' said Johnny Aantjes, owner of the Feedway in Penticton, B.C. The Feedway is a pet and livestock feed business that also sells farm-fresh eggs, baby chicks and chickens. With the threat of a Canada Post strike looming, Aantjes made the call to switch from ground transport to air — a decision that's quickly becoming the new norm for the farm. The postal journey for the chicks would have taken upwards of 16 to 17 hours, compared to just one hour in the air. New partnership unlocks single connection access to Denmark, Norway and Sweden from multiple points in WestJet's network CALGARY, AB, June 11, 2025 /CNW/ - WestJet today announced a new interline partnership agreement with Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), significantly enhancing seamless connectivity across the Atlantic and throughout the Nordic countries. Through this partnership, WestJet guests will gain single-ticket access to 29 destinations across Denmark, Sweden and Norway including key cities such as Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Luleå and Malmö.
