Tamil race faces one challenge after another: CM Stalin
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin, on Tuesday (June 17, 2025), lamented that some continue to have problem in accepting the antiquity of Tamil civilisation even though scientific evidence firmly established it.
'The Tamil race faces one stumbling block after another. We confront these challenges and prove the civilisation's ancientness through scientific evidence. Yet, there are those who stubbornly refuse to accept it. There is no need to revise the report. It is some people's mindset that needs to change,' he said in a social media post.
The Chief Minister's remarks allude to the Union government's refusal to acknowledge the findings of Keeladi excavation led by archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna.
Meanwhile, the DMK's student wing has announced a protest demonstration at Viraganur in Madurai district on Wednesday to condemn the Centre. 'Let us gather in large number and express our solidarity,' he said.

Adopt Telangana model of caste census, Congress tells Centre
Urging the Centre to follow the Telangana model of caste enumeration and accusing it of delaying the exercise, the Congress on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) said the government's latest announcement was aimed at 'grabbing headlines, buying time and managing the narrative'. On Monday (June 16, 2025), the Union Ministry of Home Affairs said the next Census will be conducted in 2027. It also reiterated that caste census will be part of the exercise. Addressing a press conference here, Congress general secretary Sachin Pilot asked the government to be transparent about the caste census. He said the objective cannot just be to collect data on an individual's caste but to understand the socio-economic conditions of families, and create policies to substantially improve their livelihoods. 'Without tangible data on caste, no State or Central government can implement targeted interventions, which is what we [the Congress] aimed to achieve. I would urge the Modi government to follow the Telangana model and have a more consultative process,' Mr. Pilot said. 'Funds inadequate' He said there are doubts about the government's intentions with regard to the caste census as the funds allocated for it was only ₹574 crore while almost ₹10,000 crore would be required for the exercise. When the Congress raised the demand for caste census, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said people who made such demands were 'urban naxals', he said. 'The demand for a caste census was led by the Congress, particularly by the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, who has been raising this issue for several years. Due to the party's continuous and forceful demand, the Modi government has yielded and announced a caste census. However, the facts and figures tell a different story,' he said at the party's Indira Bhavan headquarters. To underscore the point of Mr. Gandhi's 'relentless campaign' for caste census, Indian Youth Congress chief Uday Bhanu Chhib said the party will organise seminars on caste census across the country on June 19 to mark Mr. Gandhi's birthday.

A rally was taken out by the Left parties, to condemn the attacks on Palestine and Iran by Israel, from the RTC Complex to the Gandhi statue. The participants raised slogans calling upon the general public to oppose the attacks by Israel and express solidarity with the people of Palestine. CPI State assistant secretary J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy, CPI(M) district secretariat member B. Ganga Rao called upon the public to oppose the capitalistic and tyrannical attitude of America. They alleged that Israel had deliberately destroyed hospitals, refugee camps and vital installations. It had also attacked a vessel in the international waters. The leaders of the Left parties demanded immediate release of the international volunteers, who were taken captive by Israel. Amit Shah controls AIADMK, says Udayanidhi
Alleging that the AIADMK was under the control of BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, DMK youth wing secretary and Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi Stalin said after the demise of Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK had not only lost its sheen, but also pledged the rights of Tamils for multiple reasons. Addressing the functionaries of different wings of the party during his one-day visit to Sivaganga district, he said there were around 25 wings in the DMK, while there were 25 factions in the AIADMK. 'The party has gone weak and its leaders have different agendas,' he charged. As long as Jayalalithaa headed the AIADMK, the BJP could not bring in any programmes which affected the people of Tamil Nadu. After her demise, the AIADMK, which was in power then, succumbed to BJP's pressure, he said. Known for its valour, the DMK had always fought for the rights of the people of Tamil Nadu. The fight with the Union government recently benefited the whole nation and many hailed Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for his bold initiatives in keeping the federal structure more meaningful. The Deputy CM said the AIADMK was fractured and none of the genuine cadre appeared to have faith in their leaders. Not to remain overconfident of DMK's victory in the 2026 general elections to Legislative Assembly, Mr. Udayanidhi appealed to the rank and file to dedicate themselves to secure the party a big win. 'Bring home more votes and meet the people directly. Tell them about the promises and achievements fulfilled by the DMK government,' he said. There were a lot of fake posts and unverified information making rounds in the social media. It was for the cadre to meet the people at their doorstep and explain the truth. Without spending much on campaign, youngsters should explore innovative ways available with the DMK's IT wing. There might be shortfalls in the government and the party, he said and urged them to bring those shortfalls to the notice of seniors to get them sorted out. No force could threaten the party or the government headed by Mr. Stalin and the political opponents would be shown the doors in the ensuing election, he added.
