Three migrants, including two children, die during Mediterranean crossing
RESQSHIP said it rescued 59 others on Saturday from a rubber boat adrift south of the Italian island of Lampedusa. The boat had been spotted by a surveillance aircraft operated by the EU border agency Frontex.
'When we reached the boat at around 4:30 pm local time, some people had already died,' the charity said in a statement. A RESQSHIP medic reported receiving the bodies of two children, aged three and four, believed to have died from dehydration the previous day.
Many survivors, the organisation said, were suffering from burns caused by a mixture of saltwater and fuel. Two children and four critically ill adults were handed over to the Italian coastguard for urgent medical care.
The rubber dinghy had reportedly departed from the Libyan port of Zawiya on Wednesday. Its engine failed within 24 hours, leaving the passengers at the mercy of the sea for days. Tags: illegal immigrants rescue Drowning

At least 50 Sudanese displaced people rescued in Al-Kufra desert
The Emergency and Ambulance Service in Al-Kufra has announced the rescue of about 50 Sudanese displaced individuals, including women and children, who were stranded in the desert south of the city. According to a statement posted on Facebook, members of the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency in Al-Kufra found the group on Thursday morning in the Siouf Boufatma area, located about 450 kilometers from Al-Kufra. On Wednesday, the spokesperson for Al-Kufra's Municipal Council, Abdullah Suleiman, called for the reopening of the Sudanese consulate in the city, citing growing humanitarian and administrative challenges due to the increasing influx of Sudanese people fleeing conflict in their home country. Suleiman said that Al-Kufra is one of the Libyan cities receiving the highest number of Sudanese refugees—around 60,000—some of whom suffer fatal accidents or illnesses, highlighting the urgent need for a diplomatic presence to provide legal representation and safeguard their interests. ItaMilRadar: Italian surveillance aircraft conducted patrols off eastern Libya
The Italian website ItaMilRadar reported 'unusual activity' in the central Mediterranean region, noting the detection of an Italian Air Force reconnaissance aircraft off the coast of eastern Libya. The website said that new patrol missions were conducted on Saturday in the central Mediterranean, marking the third such flight observed by the Italian Air Force in recent days. It noted that an ATR-72A aircraft carried out a patrol mission lasting nearly six hours in the area. The Italian website, which specializes in monitoring military activity in the Mediterranean, said the latest Italian patrol focused on the coastline off eastern Libya. While the full flight path was not entirely visible, the website's data indicated that the aircraft operated primarily between the cities of Al-Bayda and Tobruk, before heading to the Greek island of Crete and then returning to Italy's Souda Air Base. Earlier on Saturday morning, before the Italian ATR-72A departed from Souda, a US Navy Boeing P-8A aircraft completed a wide orbital pattern southwest of Crete, followed by a standard surveillance mission off the coast of Syria. ItaMilRadar: US military plane lands in Benghazi and Misrata
The Italian website Itamil Radar, which specializes in tracking military aviation, reported that a US Air Force aircraft landed in the cities of Benghazi and Misrata during an unspecified mission on Monday. According to the Italian website, the aircraft — a Lockheed Martin C-130J belonging to the United States Air Force — returned to Sigonella Air Base in Sicily after completing its mission in Libya. The website noted that the plane took off early Monday from Sigonella, flew south over the central Mediterranean, and made stops in both Benghazi and Misrata. The website added that after completing its tasks on the ground, the C-130J began its return journey northward, passing over Malta and arriving in Sicily. The nature of the mission conducted by the American aircraft in Libya was not disclosed. However, the website pointed out that such air missions are often linked to US diplomatic support and military logistical services, as well as cooperation with local forces in Libya. Tags: ItaMilRadar
