Dean Henderson delights punters 'by putting £1,000 behind the bar at local pub' after his heroics in Crystal Palace's Community Shield win over Liverpool
Crystal Palace supporters have heaped praise on Dean Henderson for a selfless gesture after their Community Shield win against Liverpool. Oliver Glasner 's side made their first appearance in the annual curtain raiser on Sunday after triumphing in the FA Cup final in May. Palace fell behind twice at Wembley against Arne Slot 's Premier League-winning Liverpool side but fought back to equalise thanks to goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr. For a third season running the game was decided on spot kicks and Henderson wrote his name in club folklore as Palace prevailed by denying both Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott from 12 yards. The former Manchester United goalkeeper was already a favourite among the Selhurst Park faithful but he endeared himself further to the fans with a gesture after the final whistle. As the supporters poured out of the home of football, they were treated to a celebration courtesy of the man himself. According to a user on social media, Henderson stopped off at a local pub and paid for the jubilant supporters' drinks. The fan wrote: 'Dean Henderson just stopped off at The Allsopp Arms and dropped a £1k off at the bar to buy us all a drink. 'Legend. Totally gets this club. Cheers.' The supporter also shared a selfie with the three-cap England international. After his starring performance Henderson said that he relished stepping up during big occasions. 'I love the big moments, I love being in that pressure moment. The homework we did on penalties was great,' the 28-year-old told TNT Sports. 'They have unbelievable players and have a great team but two trophies in three months is incredible. 'These emotions are fantastic. With them 2-1 up you think we are out the game. The manager said we'd get chances and we did.'

Fans fume after Community Shield final between Liverpool and Crystal Palace was put behind a paywall
Fans have reacted angrily after the Community Shield was put behind a paywall. For the first time since 2021 the annual curtain raiser was shown on non-terrestrial television, with TNT Sports screening the Wembley fixture between FA Cup winners Crystal Palace and Premier League champions Liverpool. The shift was part of the new deal between the FA signed with the broadcaster to show the FA Cup in March. It includes some free-to-air matches on other channels. Angry, would-be viewers flocked to social media to criticise the move, pointing out that it appeared at odds with the ethos of the Community Shield, from which proceeds are handed to charities. 'This is a disgrace,' said one, 'this is a game that should be free and accessible to everyone'. Leon Legge, the former Cambridge United and Port Vale defender, joined the chorus of outrage. For the first time since 2021 the annual curtain raiser was shown on non-terrestrial television 'So the Community Shield is on today, yet the whole of the football community can't watch it unless you have subscription to TNT,' he posted on X. Others described the decision as ironic, with one stating: 'The Community Shield cannot be seen by the community, apart from a relatively tiny number of TNT Sports viewers. Not even the highlights anywhere else. Poor.'

Oasis skip huge song at Murrayfield despite Noel saying it's 'one of the best I've written'
Oasis returned to Murrayfield Stadium this weekend for their first Scottish gig in 16 years but the pair did not play all of their number one singles. Oasis played two incredible sell out gigs at Murrayfield Stadium this weekend which came as their first Scottish gig in 16 years. The Gallagher brothers took to the stage in the Capital to crowds of around 135,000 across Friday and Saturday evening and are set to finish their three night run in Scotland on Tuesday August 12. The Manchester based band have several ties to Scotland after first being 'discovered' at King Tuts in Glasgow and playing iconic gigs such as their Loch Lomond performance in 1996. Despite this, Noel Gallagher has still made eyebrow raising comments about Scotland as he previously branded it a 'third world country' during a now resolved feud with Lewis Capaldi. However, Liam and Noel, who finally put their long-standing rift to bed after a decade and a half last year, appeared to be having the time of their life on stage. Oasis played many of their iconic fan favourite hits, including Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Slide Away and Live Forever while each gig ended with Champagne Supernova and a firework display. The band played 23 of their hits to fans but a few of them were noticeably missing from the setlist - including one which Noel Gallagher previously said was one of the best songs he's ever written. A notable tune that was absent from their performance was Stop Crying Your Heart Out (2002) as well as their fourth number one single, All Around The World, which was released in 1998. Taken from their third album, Be Here Now, the song is nine minutes long, although a shorter version of under five was released for the radio. The two other singles from Be Here Now - D'You Known What I Mean and Stand By Me - have been played during the concerts. While other number-one singles like The Importance of Being Idle have also not been featured, Noel once said that All Around the World was one of the best songs he'd ever written. He wrote it before the band became a global sensation but delayed its release as he wanted to do the production justice. Noel even compared it to the The Beatles' Hey Jude, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest songs of all time. Speaking at the time of its release, he said: "...the longer the better as far as I'm concerned. If it's good. I can see what people are going to say, but f**k 'em, basically. "The lyrics are teeny-poppy. But there are three key changes towards the end. Imagine how much better Hey Jude would have been with three key changes towards the end." The famous track also features backing vocals from Richard Ashcroft, the former Verve frontman who is the support act for Oasis on their tour. Noel and Liam's then-wives Meg Mathews and Patsy Kensit also feature. Other number ones that didn't feature are Go Let It out, The Hindu Times and Lyla while other classic album tracks such as She's Electric didn't make the cut either. The set list from Saturday night at Murrayfield was: Hello Acquiesce Some Might Say Bring It On Down Cigarettes & Alcohol Fade Away Supersonic Roll With It Talk Tonight Half The World Away Little by Little D'You Know What I Mean Stand By Me Cast No Shadow Slide Away Whatever Live Forever Rock 'N' Roll Star The Masterplan Don't Look Back In Anger Wonderwall Champagne Supernova Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
