Brits who smuggled Angel Delight drugs into Bali sentenced to jail time
Three Brits who smuggled £300,000 worth of cocaine into Bali stuffed in packets of the Angel Delight were today given a last-minute reprieve and will be returned to the UK in months.
Lisa Stocker, 39, partner, Jon Collyer, 39, and accomplice Phineas Float, 31, feared they could be executed under Indonesia's strict anti-drugs laws. Collyer and Stocker were arrested on February 1 after being stopped by customs at the X-ray machine at Bali's international airport. 992 grams of the Class A drug was found concealed across 10 sachets of Angel Delight in Collyer's luggage combined with 7 similar sachets in his partner's suitcase.
The couple faced the death penalty and previously pleaded for freedom despite Indonesia's strict legislation. However, today a judge at Denpasar central court chose not to impose the death penalty after they admitted smuggling the narcotics into the island, reports the Mirror.
Instead the drug mules and their accomplice were given a year in hell-hole prisons before they are likely booted out of the country. Given time served, the trio will likely be back in the UK by January.
Mum-of-three Stocker remained silent when she was handed her sentence alongside her husband Collyer. Float was handed the same lenient sentence and will now spend his time in Bali's infamous Kerobokan Prison. The court heard they had agreed to take part in the plot for a "reward" of 500,000 Indonesia Rupiah - the same as just £22.50. "Always check what is in your bag before you travel,' Collyer told reporters when he left the court.
The East Sussex pair, pleaded guilty to smuggling 922 grams of cocaine disguised in 10 packets of the popular dessert Angel Delight. Stocker and Collyer had travelled from the UK through Qatar and were arrested following a routine X-Ray bag search when they landed in Bali.
Cops later arrested Phineas Ambrose Float, 31, after a controlled operation which saw the other two suspects hand the drugs to him at the Grand Mas Airport Hotel carpark in Denpasar. He is being tried separately. Police are said to have used the couple to lure Float by sending Collyer and Stocker to meet him in an airport car park - where the trio were due to meet for an exchange on February 3.
The group managed to slip past Indonesian authorities twice before, but were caught on their third attempt, said Ponco Indriyo, the deputy director of the Bali Police Narcotics Unit.

In a previous court appearance, last week, Stocker issued a grovelling apology to the judge crying that she "won't trust people so easily again". The mum-of-three wept as she claimed to Judge Heriyanti that she had no idea what was in the dessert mix packets. She said: "I didn't know the packages were cocaine. I apologise. From now on I won't trust people so easily and will be more careful. Collyer, who comforted his wife throughout proceedings, uttered just five words and said: "I won't do it again."
Float, who has previously served time in jail in the UK for armed robbery and drug-dealing, told journalists gathered to "f**k off" as he was led into the courtroom last week. He previously told the court "I was very stupid" and has spent months in Bali's notorious hell-hole Kerobokan prison.
Last week he told the court: "I was very stupid to take the packages of cocaine. I regret it and apologise." Stocker previously claimed that she had been given the Angel Delight packages in the UK by a friend to bring to Bali. She claimed that she had been framed on the second day of their trial on June 10.
She said: "Jon and I had been to Bali twice carrying packages from (this friend). I was shocked after finding out it was cocaine." Collyer meanwhile told the court that he had not been given money to go to Bali and that he paid the cost of flights and hotels himself.
However, police prosecutor Made Umbara alleged that a man in the UK who allegedly gave Stocker and Collyer the cocaine, paid Collyer £2,130 to cover the cost of accommodation and flights from the UK to Bali. People found guilty of breaking Indonesia's strict drug laws typically face extremely harsh punishments, including lengthy prison sentences or, in some cases, execution by a firing squad.
According to data by the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections', around 530 people, including 96 foreigners, are on death row in Indonesia, mostly for drug-related crimes. The UN Office on Drugs and Crime says the country is a major drug-smuggling hotspot despite having some of the strictest drug laws in the world - partly because international drug gangs target its young population.

Kennerley's betrayal devastated her fellow PTA members, who were left to pick up the pieces after discovering the missing funds. One former co-chair, Heidi Green, said she felt 'overwhelmed, disappointed, betrayed, heartbroken and upset.' Suspicion was first raised in April 2024, when Kennerley announced she was stepping down as treasurer and claimed there were 'no funds left' for the year. But the incoming treasurer believed around £1,800 should have remained. Kennerley, who worked as a mortgage advisor at Barclays, suggested closing the PTA's bank account and opening a new one—claiming difficulties changing signatories. She then repaid £1,720, money she admitted borrowing from her father. It wasn't until later in the year, when bank statements were finally handed over, that the full scale of the theft was revealed. During police interviews, Kennerley said she had been in an abusive relationship and turned to alcohol to cope. She claimed she had always intended to repay the money and had used some of it for essential expenses like petrol and groceries. Her defence solicitor, Andrew McInnes, said: 'She faces the court with understandable shame and trepidation. She has lost her good name, her job, and many friends. 'This was out of character. She has taken steps to address her alcohol issues and has secured work as a cleaner. Her primary concern now is her three children, who rely on her.' Kennerley, who has no previous convictions, admitted one count of fraud by abuse of position . Sentencing her, Recorder Nicholas Flanagan said the crime had 'a significant impact on the children,' adding: 'Outwardly, you were volunteering as a trustee, but behind the scenes, you were siphoning off money for your own use. This was a severe abuse of trust that took place over a number of years. 'You have shown some remorse, and there are signs of positive change. Given your caring responsibilities, previous good character, and the steps you have taken since, I am just persuaded that the sentence can be suspended.' Kennerley may also face a confiscation hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act , scheduled for later this year.

Teen jailed over Bonfire Night riots that terrorised Edinburgh communities
A 17-year-old has been locked up for 18 months after launching fireworks at police, targeting a petrol station, and terrorising residents during large-scale riots in Edinburgh last Bonfire Night. A teenager who took part in large-scale public disorder across Edinburgh during bonfire night last has been jailed for 18 months. The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, August 4, after pleading guilty to charges of mobbing and rioting, as well as culpable and reckless conduct. His crimes were linked to two separate incidents in the city in October and November last year. Chaos unfolded in Calder Road and Sighthill Court on November 5 when the teen joined a group who launched a sustained and violent attack on police officers, threw fireworks near a petrol station, and caused extensive damage to property. Buses were forced to withdraw from the area, and residents were left too frightened to leave their homes as the riot continued for more than two hours. CCTV footage showed the youth throwing fireworks and rocks at officers, setting fire to bins and street furniture, and aiming pyrotechnics at parked cars and members of the public. The attack resulted in thousands of pounds' worth of damage to a local car dealership, while a nearby fire station was also targeted. The teenager also admitted involvement in a separate incident on October 5 on Princes Street and South St Andrews Street, where around 50 young people were seen setting off fireworks at pedestrians, into the road, and at buildings. During the hour-long disturbance, he was observed handing fireworks to others and actively participating in the violence. Members of the public were left cowering to protect themselves. At one point, a firework exploded beneath a police vehicle. The youth had been remanded in custody since his arrest and has already served eight months in detention. Both offences were aggravated by the use of pyrotechnics against emergency workers and by the fact that the teen was on bail at the time. Chief Superintendent David Robertson, Divisional Commander for Edinburgh, said: : 'The scenes we witnessed in Calder Road, along with other areas of the city, last Bonfire Night were wholly unacceptable and resulted in a local car dealership having thousands of pounds worth of damage inflicted upon their vehicles, while our colleagues at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service also had their station in the area targeted. Neil Almond, interim Procurator Fiscal for Lothian and Borders, condemned the teenager's actions: 'In the incident on November 5, 2024, significant damage was caused to property, running into thousands of pounds. 'Setting off fireworks in the direction of the petrol station forecourt was an act so dangerous it could have caused petrol pumps to ignite, putting staff and members of the public at risk of serious injury or worse. 'Our message to young people who carry out this type of offending is that having a criminal record will seriously impact your life. 'They should fully understand that a conviction may affect their liberty and their ability to lead a normal, unrestricted life. A total of 61 people were reported by Police Scotland for incidents related to public disorder in the weeks around Bonfire Night last year, most of them from Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Man appears in court charged with attempted murder after police officer 'stabbed'

The injured male officer was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment for a stab wound. He has since been discharged. Superintendent Emma MacKay said: "The officer and his colleagues showed incredible bravery and professionalism during this difficult and challenging incident and I would like to thank them for their efforts. "The incident was contained with no further risk to the public. "We'd like to thank our emergency services colleagues and partner agencies who were on the scene and provided vital assistance during the incident.
