Min's inspection exposes fake fertiliser trade and legal gaps

Jaipur: Agriculture minister Kirori Lal Meena conducted inspections targeting fake fertiliser units Ajmer and Jaipur for the second consecutive day Friday.
During inspections at various locations, several factories were found shut with spilt fertiliser visible outside their premises.
The minister acknowledged the absence of stringent legislation to combat this illegal practice.
Nevertheless, he emphasised that regular raids and heightened vigilance could serve as effective deterrents against such activities in the fertiliser trade.
Meena, along with his team, searched various factories at Kishangarh, Ajmer, and its surrounding areas, as well as in some of the outskirts of Jaipur.
According to Meena, 34 factories were identified, and he asked the authorities to seal these factories.
Also, 12 FIRs were lodged against the malpractice in this trade of fake fertiliser.
"This is a big scam as from Ajmer I found that these fertilisers are also being sent to other states across the country. I instructed the police and agriculture department officials to ensure action under the Fertiliser Act and also to investigate who the real owners of these factories are," Meena said while talking to TOI. Meena admitted that usually, in these cases, there is a scope of Istegasa (legal complaint) and a lack of stringent laws against it.

"Despite this, I will continue monitoring and fix accountability of my officers. Also, similar raids will continue from my side. I believe regular raids and heightened vigilance could serve as effective deterrents against such fraudulent activities in the fertiliser trade," he added.
"Inka Nuksaan hoga Darr Baithega to band karna padega (If they [factory owners] get losses and are intimidated, they will have to stop manufacturing these fertilisers)," he added.
On the allegations of PCC Chief Govind Singh Dotasara, Meena said that Union Minister Bhagirath Chaudhary has nothing to do with this action. "He is totally unaware of such factories. He is a farmer and was totally unaware," Meena added.

Suspended cop held with cache of arms, ammo in Samastipur
Patna: A huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the residence of a suspended constable, Saroj Singh, in Sultanpur Ganga diara area of Mohiuddin Nagar in Samastipur district on Friday. The raid, carried out by the joint teams of Bihar Special Task Force (STF) and district police, turned violent when Singh's supporters opened fire at the police team. The constable and his four associates were later arrested by the STF for allegedly conspiring to kill two people. The STF also recovered an AK-47 rifle, an INSAS rifle with four magazines and 70 live cartridges, a rifle, and a double-barrel gun with more than 60 live cartridges from their possession. Cash and land-related documents worth approximately more than Rs 3.5 crore were also seized from several locations in Patna and Danapur, police said. Emu farm MD gets 10 years rigorous imprisonment for cheating investors Rs 7.61 crore
COIMBATORE: A special court for the trial of cases under the Tamil Nadu Protection of Interests of Depositors (TNPID) Act in Coimbatore on Friday awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment to the managing director of an emu farm for cheating 385 investors of Rs 7.61 crore. The court imposed a fine of Rs 7.89 crore on him. Guru alias Gurusamy, 46, was functioning as managing director of Susi Emu Farms (India) Private Limited at Perundurai in Erode district. The farm had opened branch offices in Salem, Coimbatore, Namakkal and a few other places in the state. In 2012, the firm offered various ponzi schemes to lure investors. It received investments of Rs 7.61 crore from 385 investors in Salem district, said K Muthu Vijayan, special public prosecutor for the TNPID court. The Salem economic offences wing (EOW) police registered a case against Gurusamy and two managers of the firm, Kathirvel and Suresh, under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 5 of the TNPID Act in 2012. After hearing the prosecution and defence counsel arguments, special court judge M N Senthil Kumar delivered the verdict on Friday evening.
