
Victim injured during buy-and-sell meetup in downtown Kitchener
Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a violent robbery in downtown Kitchener.
The victim, who was trying to sell unspecified property, arranged to meet a potential buyer at Joseph Street and Gaukel Street, near Victoria Park, on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said a group of males were waiting at that location.
When the buyer showed them the item, police said 'the suspects took it from the victim and hit and assaulted them with an unknown object.'
The buyer had only minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
One of the suspects was described as a Black man, 40 to 50 years old, and approximately 6'0' with black dreadlocks.
The incident was reported to police approximately five hours later.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious is asked to contact WRPS at 519-570-9777.

Waterloo Regional Police say safety should be the priority when buying or selling something to a stranger.
As such, they have set up three designated Buy and Sell Exchange Zones in the parking lots of their detachments.

On Thursday morning, an officer was patrolling near Lakeshore Road 305 and Comber Side Road. Police said this area has ongoing complaints from residents regarding speeding and aggressive drivers. The officer on patrol saw the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver's license was suspended for 30 days, the vehicle was impounded for 14 days, and a court date has been set in the incident. 'We hear your concerns and take them seriously,' OPP wrote in a social media post. 'Targeted patrols in areas of concern are a direct response to community feedback. Safe roads are a shared responsibility, and we will continue to hold those accountable who put others at risk.'

Barrie man dies after crashing into tree in south end

Emergency crews were called to Huronia Road, south of Mapleview Drive East around 9:45 p.m. to find an SUV had left the road, struck a tree and rolled onto its side. Police say the driver, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was trapped inside and had to be extricated by firefighters. The driver, from Barrie, was then taken to the hospital where police say he was pronounced dead. The area was closed between Saunders Road and Mapleview Drive East until just after 1:30 a.m. for the investigation.
