Service marks 40 years since Bradford City fire
The service took place at the Bradford City Fire Memorial sculpture in Centenary Square at 11:00 BST.
The City of Bradford Brass Band played You'll Never Walk Alone, before the City Hall bell tolled 56 times to mark the number of people who died. A wreath was also laid on behalf of King Charles III.
Mayor of Bradford Beverley Mullaney said the service was set up to help people "come together to pay tribute".
She added: "It is important to the city and district that we take time to remember those who were affected and those who continue to be affected by the tragic events on 11 May 1985."
The service also included Canon Pastor Oliver Evans, who is the Bradford City AFC club chaplain, giving a welcome speech.
And Reverend Andy Bowerman, Dean of Bradford, also gave a short reflection.
After the memorial service finished, the City Hall opened for a short while for fans and visitors to view a memorial bell at the top of the civic staircase in the hall.
The bell, which came from the first fire engine to arrive on the scene on 11 May 1985, was donated to the city by the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Bradford City were playing Lincoln City in their last home match of the season when a fire ripped through the Valley Parade stadium with 11,000 fans watching.
Fifty four Bradford City supporters died, along with two travelling Lincoln supporters, as well as injuring more than 260.

Christopher Sadowski 'Broadway is synonymous with a visit to New York City, and what better way to celebrate 400 years than with a free, live concert in the center of it all, Times Square,' said Julie Coker, president and CEO of New York City Tourism + Conventions, in a statement. The show also serves as the marquee event of the Adams' administration's year-long 'Founded By NYC' celebration of the city's 400th birthday, which will offer free summer movies, 400 blocks of free Summer Streets events, the 47th annual Museum Mile Festival and more. 'The story of Broadway is the story of New York City, and with 'Founded By Broadway' and this Times Square concert for all to partake in for free, we will help tell both of these stories this September,' Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement. 'Thanks to 'Founded By NYC,' we're thrilled to be hosting events like this all year long as we commemorate more than four centuries of New York City history and show, once again, why we are 'the greatest city in the world,'' the mayor said. 4 Jeremy Jordan and Eva Noblezada appear for a curtain call at 'The Great Gatsby' on Broadway. 'There's only one Broadway, and there's only one New York City,' said Jason Laks, president of The Broadway League, while promoting 'Founded by Broadway.' 'The heart of Times Square is the perfect place to celebrate Broadway's legacy,' Laks said. 'As we mark 400 years of this extraordinary city, the 'Founded By Broadway' concert will bring together the energy, talent, and storytelling that define New York and inspire the world.'

Why Prince William and Kate Skipped the Royal Family's VJ Day Service
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." The British royal family is honoring an important occasion: the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, which marked the end of WWII in Japan and the Pacific. King Charles III and Queen Camilla, together with other royals and leaders, attended the national Service of Remembrance, hosted by the Royal British Legion in partnership with the government, this morning. The event took place at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire, and honored the British and Commonwealth troops who fought in the war. For the occasion, Charles wore his military uniform, while Camilla wore an all-white ensemble composed of a midi dress with a pleated skirt, a wide-brim hat, and low heels with black colorblock tips. She accessorized with dangly pearl earrings and a British Light Infantry bugle horn brooch covered in a diamonds—nodding to the brave British soldiers. Prince William and Princess Catherine were not present at the Victory over Japan Day, or VJ Day, service, as they are on their summer break with their children. The Waleses did, however, share a message on X to commemorate the day. 'Today, on the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, we remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of all who served. Today we especially think of those British and Commonwealth troops who fought in the Asia-Pacific,' they wrote. 'We owe an enduring debt to the generation who gave so much, and to whom we will always be grateful. Lest we forget. W&C.' In May, the royals, including William, Kate, and their kids—Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7—commemorated the end of the war in Europe (named Victory in Europe Day) at a parade held outside of Buckingham Palace. Kate wore a striking magenta coatdress and matching fascinator, while husband William wore his military uniform, and their three children coordinated in navy outfits. Then, for the thanksgiving service, Kate slipped into a breezy white dress with black polka dots all over, which she styled with a black fascinator and tan accessories.
