Crude palm oil, fighting cocks worth over RM3.9 mln seized in Sabah
JKDNKA director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said that in the first operation in Lahad Datu at 7 pm, carried out with enforcement officers from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), they raided a store at a palm oil plantation and arrested four men aged between 20 and 31.
'We seized a lorry head with a tanker containing 30,000 litres of crude palm oil, a van, three motorised oil pumps with hoses and tanks, as well as drums filled with crude palm oil.
'The total amount of crude palm oil seized is estimated to weigh 30,148 tonnes, with a market value of RM152,090, and the overall value of the seizure in this operation is estimated at RM645,890,' he said in a statement yesterday.
Azmi said the case is being investigated under Regulation 5(1)(b) of the MPOB (Licensing) Regulations 2005, adding that police also issued five summonses (POL 257) for vehicle-related offences such as expired road tax, no insurance coverage and driving without a licence.
Meanwhile, in the second operation in Tawau at 2.30 pm on Friday, police seized 622 fighting cocks and arrested three men, including two foreign men from Indonesia and the Philippines, all aged around their 50s.
'At the first location in Kampung Apas Parit, two Indonesian men and two Filipino men were arrested, and police seized 470 fighting cocks believed to be from the Philippines, 40 rooster spur knives, 180 units of vitamins and 500 chicken cages.
'At the second location in Kampung Membalua Off Jalan Apas, a 57-year-old man was detained along with 152 fighting cocks, with the total estimated value of the seizures at both locations being RM3,287,708,' he said.
He added that all those arrested are being investigated under Section 15(1) of the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015, Sections 55B, 39B & 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 6 of the Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.

Police cripple lottery scam syndicate, seven arrested
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismantled a lottery scam syndicate believed to be involved in at least 15 cases across several states. The group has duped multiple victims of nearly RM200,000 to date. Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said seven individuals were arrested during six separate raids around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor on July 4. "The syndicate allegedly preyed on victims by posing as lottery winners, offering to share prize money before tricking them into handing over valuables and ATM cards. "Those arrested include a local man, two Indonesian men and two Indonesian women believed to be the main suspects, along with two other locals, a gold shop owner and a salesperson," Rusdi said today. He said the group would ask their victims for help in directing them to the nearest lottery shop so that they could collect their winnings. "They would promise to share RM15,000 of their winnings in exchange for their help," he said.

Indonesian dump truck driver killed in quarry mishap in Penang
NIBONG TEBAL: A 21-year-old Indonesian dump truck driver was killed in an accident at a quarry site in Sungai Jawi here last Friday. The incident occurred about 8.30am in the rock face crash zone of the quarry, which is operated by a private company and a subcontractor. The victim is believed to have lost control of the vehicle while descending a sloped path, causing it to crash into the safety zone. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Sungai Bakap Hospital for emergency treatment. He succumbed to his injuries the following day. The cause of death was determined to be abdominal injuries resulting from the incident. The Penang Occupational Safety and Health Department has launched an investigation into the incident and issued three prohibition notices and two improvement notices to the parties involved. "Employers have been instructed to submit relevant documents and conduct an internal investigation." The department said it would record statements from witnesses as part of the investigation. "Legal action under Section 15(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Amendment) 2022 may be pursued if any violations are established.

Indonesia monitors former marine who joined Russian mercenary group
JAKARTA: Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Ministry is closely monitoring the case of a former marine who reportedly joined Russian forces as a mercenary and is now seeking help to return home. Ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat said the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow is actively monitoring the whereabouts of the former Indonesian Navy marine and has established contact with him. "The issue of the man's citizenship status falls under the authority of Indonesia's Law Ministry,' he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 22). Local media have identified the man as Satria Arta Kumbara (pic), who is said to have asked the Indonesian government to help facilitate his return and reunite him with his family.
