Russia Develops Technology for Obtaining Fats from Microorganisms

Omsk State Technical University (OmSTU) is developing a technology for obtaining fats and oils by microbiological means. This will increase the nutritional value of products and make them more healthy and balanced. This was reported by the press service of OmSTU, a partner of TV BRICS.
It is noted that obtaining fats by traditional methods depends on the climate and season and requires significant expenditures on agricultural equipment and personnel. The new method is based on the use of microorganisms – Rhodotorula glutinis, which is capable of accumulating beneficial fatty acids that are important for the cardiovascular, nervous, and immune systems, according to TV BRICS.
During the development process, scientists create a nutrient medium for yeast, investigate ways to break down the cell wall for maximum fat extraction, and work on purifying and stabilising the product.
According to Maria Kerber, a student at the Faculty of Art and Technology at OmSTU, microbiological fats are a promising area of biotechnology that can meet the growing demand for edible fats. She added that work is currently underway to reduce the cost and scale up the technology for industrial production. This will help reduce dependence on agriculture and improve the environmental situation.
The resulting product can be used in the dairy, meat, and confectionery industries. The technology will ensure stable production regardless of the season and will allow the composition of fats to be adapted to the needs of medicine, dietetics and baby food.

Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) industrialised nations will begin their annual talks on Monday, seeking a united front as escalating wars in Ukraine and the Middle East cast a shadow over the global economy and internal divisions persist. The leaders from Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States, alongside the European Union, are meeting until Tuesday at the Kananaskis resort in Canada's Rocky Mountains. Discussions are set against a challenging backdrop, with concerns over the foreign policy of US President Donald Trump in his second term. His approach to Russia and the imposition of tariffs, even on allies, have caused friction within the group. Search for unity With the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran driving up global oil prices, the summit is seen as a key moment to project a unified stance among the democratic powers. 'The most important goal will be for the world's seven major industrialised countries to reach a consensus and take the necessary measures,' said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz ahead of attending his first G7 summit. Achieving that will be challenging. After years of general consensus, traditional allies have struggled to maintain a unified position with Trump. In a move to avoid a repeat of the 2018 summit in Quebec, where Trump instructed the U.S. delegation to withdraw its approval for the final communique after leaving, host nation Canada has opted against a comprehensive joint statement. Instead, Ottawa is seeking consensus on a presidential summary of the main discussions and six pre-negotiated declarations on issues including migration, artificial intelligence and forest fires. Focus on economy and trade Two diplomatic sources said that efforts to agree on lowering the G7's price cap on Russian oil have become more complex due to the rise in crude prices since Israel's strikes on Iran on 12 June. The Iran-Israel escalation is on the agenda, with diplomats hoping for at least a joint statement urging restraint and a return to diplomacy. 'We are united. No one wants to see Iran have a nuclear weapon, and we all want to resume discussions and negotiations,' French President Emmanuel Macron told reporters in Greenland on Sunday before travelling to Canada. He added that Israel's reliance on U.S. weapons and munitions gives Washington leverage to push for a resumption of negotiations. Trump said on Sunday that many calls and meetings were taking place to mediate peace. The Russian question Highlighting the concerns of some allies, Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday and suggested the Russian leader could play a mediating role with Iran. The idea was dismissed by Macron, who said Moscow could not be a negotiator as it had started an illegal war against Ukraine. A European diplomat told Reuters that Trump's proposal showed that Russia, despite its 2014 expulsion from the group after annexing Crimea from Ukraine, remained prominent in Washington's thinking. 'In the US view… even its role in mediating with Iran will be seen as a positive. For Europeans, this will be a very difficult G7 summit,' the diplomat said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte are scheduled to attend the summit on Tuesday. European officials have expressed hope they can use the meeting and next week's NATO summit to persuade Trump to toughen his stance with Putin. CAIRO, June 16 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has issued a decision to form a crisis committee under his chairmanship to monitor the repercussions of the Iranian-Israeli military operations, to enhance preparedness for any developments across various sectors. In a statement Monday, Cabinet Spokesman Mohamed el Homsany said the committee groups the governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, alongside the ministers of industry, planning, economic development and international cooperation, electricity and renewable energy, finance, supply and internal trade, and petroleum and mineral resources. It also includes representatives from the ministries of defense and interior, as well as the General Intelligence Service and the Administrative Control Authority. The spokesman added that the premier will hold regular meetings with the committee members and is currently intensifying his meetings with various advisory committees to discuss the implications of recent events and their impact on different sectors. Egypt to Exclusively Produce New Stellantis Car Model by 2026 under AOI Leadership
Egypt is moving forward with plans to locally manufacture a brand-new car model in partnership with French automotive giant Stellantis, with production expected to commence by the end of 2026. The Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) will oversee the project, with a total production target of 240,000 vehicles, as confirmed by the Egyptian Presidency. The announcement followed a meeting between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and AOI Chairman Mokhtar Abdel Latif, where they reviewed the organization's key industrial activities and the performance of its subsidiaries. President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of reinforcing collaboration with private sector partners—both domestic and international—as part of Egypt's broader strategy to localize the automotive industry, increase local component integration, and grow exports of domestically manufactured products. Notably, the upcoming car model will be produced exclusively at AOI's manufacturing facilities in Egypt and will not be built at any other Stellantis site globally. The AOI is already producing the Citroën C4X locally in cooperation with Stellantis and the Arab American Vehicles Company (AAV), achieving a 45% local content rate. Initial prototypes were completed in March 2025, with plans to produce 7,000 units annually over four years, totaling 28,000 vehicles. According to AOI Chairman Mokhtar Abdel Latif, the organization is executing a comprehensive strategy aimed at expanding local manufacturing capabilities, increasing exports, and enhancing technological advancement across its factories. Central to this strategy is fostering public-private partnerships by leveraging AOI's cutting-edge industrial infrastructure.
