Podcast reviews: Enjoy the great outdoors even while indoors with these three fascinating nature shows

Practical solutions are the key drivers for positive change – as opposed to doom-scrolling and doom-mongering – which is the crux of Book of Leaves (Acast, Apple, Spotify) an Irish podcast on how to live more sustainably. Host Ceara Carney won the Climate Podcast Award at the inaugural Irish Podcasts Awards in 2022 and she's still going strong as she queries business owners, activists and academics about the steps they've taken to better serve the Earth.
The circular economy (Alice Bassie), eco burials (Colin McAteer), the art of protest (singer Sive), refurbished gadgets (Colin Baker) and ethical finance (Ciarán Hughes) have each been discussed; for jaw-dropping facts on the efficacy of oysters at cleaning water systems, tune into David Lawlor's episode, though be prepared to seethe at the one on Lough Neagh, the island of Ireland's largest freshwater lake that has been plagued with algal blooms due to chemical run-off from agricultural and industrial mismanagement, invasive species and climate change.
Naturalist (and Strictly contestant) Steve Backshall is a familiar face on TV and he's here with fellow broadcaster and wildlife biologist Lizzie Daly and journalist Sarah Roberts for That's Just Wild (Acast, Apple, Spotify).
It's a bit like the aural version of The Really Wild Show, but there's plenty for adults too, as readers of all – and unknown – ages submit their most burning questions, including Hudson, age seven, asking if sharks fart, to Frederick, age three, wondering why do tortoises go on land and turtles in the sea ('can we have a moment to contemplate that is a three-year-old asking that question,' quips Backshall).
Suzy Buttress was one of an estimated 13,000 visitors to this year's Global BirdFair at Rutland Water in England's East Midlands, dubbed 'the Glastonbury of birdwatching'. She's the host of The Casual Birder (Apple, Spotify; casualbirder.com) a too-modest name for a person who started the podcast in 2017, to share her regular bird-spotting diaries, and has become quite the maven after interviewing ornithologists, zoologists, conservationists and wildlife photographers in the years since.
A recent episode was recorded at the BirdFair, where she chatted with fellow punters and speakers, while her chat with naturalist and filmmaker Simon King is simply fascinating. In short, this series is just the ticket for anyone bereft between TV's Springwatch and Winterwatch.

She says: "We were arguing quite a lot, because he wasn't there for me emotionally, and that used to really get to me. "And it's little things, just little things I want. I don't want diamond rings, it's the little things. "So I kicked off, 'That's it, we're done', and he said, 'Look, I just don't know if I love you anymore." Kerry then sits back in her chair and touches her face with her hand as she grows emotional. She continues: "I was devastated." Expert Dr Tara Suwinyattichaiporn tells her: "Kerry, you have gone through what some people might feel like 10 lifetimes of trauma. Kerry agrees, but adds that she is proud of how she has got through everything that life has thrown at her, having been married three times before her relationship with Ryan. Fellow dating expert Anna Williamson tells Kerry: "I truly hail you as one of the most resilient people I have ever met." This prompts Kerry to become emotional again as she cries: "I never had anyone to look after me. EXCL Emotional Kerry Katona addresses age-gap relationship with new man - and 'real reason' she signed up for Celebs Go Dating "I've had to be my own hero, which I'm really proud of, but yeah, I struggle with that." In 2004, Kerry's first marriage was to former Westlife singer Brian McFadden when she was 21, and the exes have daughters Molly and Lilly together. Her next trip down the aisle was with Mark Croft, who she was married to from 2007 to 2011 and had son Maxwell and daughter Heidi with. Kerry's third marriage was to George Kay from 2014 to 2017 and they had her youngest daughter Dylan-Jorge. Kerry Katona's love life timeline Kerry's first high-profile relationship was with Brian McFadden, who was then a member of the Irish boyband Westlife. The couple married in 2002 and had two daughters together, Molly and Lilly-Sue, but divorce beckoned just four years later after infidelity claims. In 2007, Kerry married Mark Croft, a former taxi driver. Their relationship was tumultuous and marked by financial difficulties and accusations of infidelity. They had two children together, Heidi and Maxwell, before divorcing in 2011. Kerry has spoken openly about the difficulties she faced during this period, including struggles with her mental health and substance abuse. Following this, she entered into a relationship with George Kay, a former professional rugby league player. They married in 2014 and had a daughter, Dylan-Jorge (DJ). However, their relationship was fraught with issues, including horrifying domestic abuse, and they separated in 2017. Kay died in 2019 after 'biting into a ball of cocaine'. Kerry later found love again with Ryan Mahoney, a fitness trainer. The couple became engaged in 2020, and Kerry described Ryan as a stabilising and positive influence in her life. After increasing speculation late in 2024, Kerry revealed they had split over a "breach in trust" and Ryan had moved out of her home. Speaking about George, she tells the experts: "Complete, utter bad boy. Just got out of prison, 'I'll have a bit of you'. "Yeah, what have you done time for? Kidnap and torture? Great, you'll do me. "End up getting completely and utterly battered and abused." George died in 2019 from an overdose. 6 Kerry's first marriage was to Westlife singer Brian McFadden Credit: Getty 6 Her second husband was taxi driver Mark Croft Credit: Getty - Contributor 6 Kerry's third husband George Kay died in 2019, two years after their divorce Credit: Getty Celebs Go Dating airs on E4 and is available on Channel 4 on Demand.

Britpop fever hits Dublin as Oasis stage takes shape at Croker

Dublin has officially hit fever pitch, and no, it's not the weather. This week, Dublin Port took to TikTok to document the mammoth Oasis stage set rumbling off the ferry, a convoy of trucks carrying what might just be the city's biggest dose of Britpop nostalgia in years. TikTok detectives wasted no time, posting shaky but glorious footage of the Croker build taking shape, with scaffolding rising like a rock 'n' roll castle. The comment sections? Absolute carnage. It's clear the city is ready to roll with it…and maybe lose its voice in the process. 'Definitely, maybe the most exciting Cargo of the summer,' Dublin Port wrote, as they welcomed the iconic set-up into the Emerald Isle. 'Tearing up at this,' Noel's daughter Anais commented. Dublin has officially hit fever pitch, and no, it's not the weather. Pic:'What a video!!!! proud to be Irish. Welcome back lads, welcome home Peggy,' another penned. 'Look at that for an Irish welcome, you guys in Ireland are in for a cracking couple of nights,' a third shared. TikTok user @squidgemundo also set pulse's racing this week, as she shared a sneak peak of the stage being set up. Passing Croke Park on the Dart, the eagle eyed Oasis fan snapped a quick video of construction underway, with fans quickly taking to the comments to revel in the excitement. 'Just back from tonight's gig you will not be disappointed,' one UK user shared. 'Can not wait till Sunday,' another penned. Sadly one fan didn't get tickets, but they're not letting it get them down, writing: 'I'll be sitting outside listening for free, with a few cans of Dutch. Classy.' Brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher returned to the stage as a band for the first time since 2009 last month, and have been working their way around the United Kingdom as part of their tour, Live 25. On Saturday and Sunday, all roads lead to Croke Park with Irish Rail issuing advice for those travelling to the capital via train.
