Rs286 crore tiger safari project in Chandrapur gets Maha govt nod
The proposed tiger safari will feature three distinct thematic zones — Australian Trail, South American Trail, and Indian Trail — each spread over 5ha. These trails will allow tourists to explore on foot, offering an immersive experience of exotic and native wildlife in naturalistic habitats. Notably, 44ha has been earmarked for vehicle-based safaris, providing visitors with an up-close view of animals in a secure environment.
A 20-acre children's park and other tourist-friendly amenities will be developed on the safari premises. The project is expected to serve as a major tourism draw, while also contributing significantly to the local economy.
Foreign species will be a highlight of the safari. The Australian Trail will feature kangaroos, cassowaries, wallabies, laughing kookaburras, and colourful birds. The South American Trail includes jaguars, capuchin monkeys, spider monkeys, capybaras, and vibrant blue and red macaws.

Beyond tourism, the safari is projected to generate substantial employment opportunities. Local youth may find work as guides, safari drivers, zoo staff, and security personnel. Ancillary businesses such as homestays, hotels, eateries, and souvenir shops are also expected to benefit, giving a much-needed boost to Chandrapur's economy.
Chandrapur MLA Kishore Jorgewar reviewed the tiger safari project with officials of FDCM Gorewada Zoo Limited at a meeting in Nagpur on Friday. The meeting was attended by acting CEO Shatnik Bhagwat and other senior officials. The team presented a detailed plan and progress report of the Rs 286 crore project.

Net tax collection slips 3.95% as refunds surge
Net tax collection by the mid of the second quarter of FY26 (till August 11, 2025) has contracted by 3.95% compared to the corresponding period last year, as per the latest data released by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). The latest figures released by CBDT reveal that the net advance tax collection by the mid of the second quarter of FY26 stood at Rs 6.63 lakh crore, which previously stood at Rs 6.91 lakh crore as on August 11, 2024. The gross tax collection also registered a fall of 1.87%, as it went down from Rs 8.14 lakh crore in the corresponding period previous year to Rs 7.98 lakh crore. The refunds have gone up by 9.81% to Rs 1.34 lakh crore during the period, compared to Rs 1.03 lakh crore in the previous fiscal year's corresponding period. 'The decline in the net collections is mainly due to the higher volume of refunds issued, especially for the corporate tax. One has to also understands tax collections cannot just have one way trajectory and are more dynamic in nature and what we are observing is basically just the impact of refund outflows on the government's net revenue position in the early part of the fiscal year,' says Hitesh Sawhney, partner, Price Waterhouse & Co LLP. The fall in the tax collection is primarily due to the sharp decline in personal income tax collection. While the corporate tax collection has gone up slightly by around 3%, personal income tax collection went down by more than 7% during the period. Previously, under the new tax regime (for 2024-25), taxpayers with income up to Rs 7 lakh had to pay no taxes. But from 2025-26, the exemption limit has been increased to Rs 12 lakh, making income up to Rs 12 lakh completely tax-free under the new regime.

Govt school gets approval for high school after long wait
Mangaluru: The long-pending demand of Kavu Government School in Puttur to be upgraded to a high school has finally been met, with the government granting approval for admissions from the next academic year. The DK ZP Government Model Upgraded Higher Primary School, Kavu , a century-old institution once on the brink of closure, received a new lease of life 12 years ago, when it was adopted by entrepreneur and politician Kavu Hemanath Shetty. Increased enrolment since then kept the dream of a high school section alive. Shetty recalled that in 2017-18, they had started Class IX without formal permission from the education department, hoping for official approval. "Unfortunately, permission did not come through, and after one year we had to shift students to other schools for SSLC. Now, with the government's nod, we expect at least 60 admissions for Class IX next academic year," he said. The government has sanctioned the high school on the condition that it be run with local funds for at least three years by the SDMC or villagers. "We are ready for it, and construction of new classrooms is in progress," Shetty said, adding that the school now has the highest admissions among rural government schools under Puttur BEO limits, despite competition from nearby private institutions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 11 Foods That Help In Healing Knee Pain Naturally Undo Since introducing LKG and UKG in 2016, the school has grown from 140 students to over 450.
