APSDRF wins third prize in national-level rescue competitions
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Response Force (APSDRF) secured the third place at the national-level Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) competitions, held at Ghaziabad.
In all, eight teams participated in the final CSSR competitions and the APSDRF won the third prize, said IGP B. Rajakumari. Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta appreciated the APSDRF team on its achievement, said the APSDRF officials in a release on Thursday.

Telangana Governor felicitates Miss World 2025 winners at Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad
Hyderabad, June 2 (UNI) Governor of Telangana, Jishnu Dev Varma, and the First Lady, Sudha Dev Varma, hosted a ceremonial felicitation in honour of the Miss World 2025 winners at the historic Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad on Monday evening, on the occasion of Telangana State Formation Day. A special High Tea was organised to celebrate the global achievements and humanitarian efforts of the pageant winners. The event was graced by the presence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, several cabinet ministers, the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, and other dignitaries. In his address, the Governor extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Telangana, both within India and abroad, marking the state's resilient journey since its formation on June 2, 2014. He highlighted Telangana's transformation into a symbol of inclusive development, cultural revival, and progressive governance. Emphasising the harmony between global elegance and grassroots wisdom, the Governor unveiled a new eco-initiative under the aegis of Raj Bhavan Telangana. The programme promotes the production of biodegradable leaf plates by tribal communities, particularly empowering women and youth through sustainable livelihood opportunities. 'This is not merely a programme,' said the Governor, 'but a movement—for sustainability, for dignity, and for our planet.' In a symbolic gesture underscoring the message of environmental stewardship, all food served at the event was presented on traditional leaf plates handmade by tribal artisans from remote villages of Telangana. With active support from Raj Bhavan, tribal women and youth are being trained in the production of eco-friendly leaf plates and cups—turning indigenous traditions into viable income-generating enterprises. This thoughtful initiative exemplifies the Governor's deep commitment to environmental responsibility and tribal welfare. The Governor also paid glowing tributes to the Miss World 2025 titleholders for their inspiring personal stories and achievements. Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, who became the first Thai woman to win the Miss World crown after bravely overcoming cancer surgery at the age of 16, was especially honoured for her extraordinary resilience. Hasset Dereje Admassu of Ethiopia, the First Runner-Up, was lauded for her poise and strength in the face of personal adversity. Maja Kladja of Poland and Aurélie Joachim of Martinique, who earned Second and Third Runner-Up titles respectively, were praised for their empowering representation of diversity and inclusion. Other outstanding participants—including Jéssica Scandiuzzi Pedroso, Krishnah Marie Gravidez, and Jasmine Odette Stringer—were also recognised for their meaningful contributions and inspiring presence. Pune police announce traffic changes for Bakrid
Pune city police's traffic control branch has announced road closures and traffic changes for Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakrid, which is observed as a festival of sacrifice and will be marked on Saturday (June 7). While namaz prayers are offered in mosques and Eidgah grounds across the city, the main event will be held at the Eidgah at Golibar Maidan. These changes will be enforced from 6 am on the day of Bakrid and will remain in force till the time namaz prayers are completed. The changes will not be applicable for on-duty government vehicles and vehicles involved in emergency services, including ambulances, fire tenders, police and military vehicles etc. The namaz prayers at Golibar Maidan will commence around 6 am and for that, roads connecting Mammadevi Chowk, Golibar Maidan and Seven Loves Chowk will be closed for vehicular traffic. The notification for traffic changes and diversions in this regard were issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Bhajibhakre on Thursday. The closed access roads and alternate routes are as follows: Traffic from Bhairoba Nala to Golibar Maidan will be closed. Heavy vehicles going towards Swargate will be diverted via Prince of Wales Road and light vehicles going to Pune Station will be diverted by Empress Garden Chowk. Road from Mammadevi Chowk to Golibar Maidan will be closed. Alternate routes have been earmarked via Bishop School or Command Hospital or Napier Road. Traffic from CDO Square to Golibar Chowk will be completely closed from 6 am to 11 am. Vehicles coming from Lullanagar will be diverted via CDO Chowk. Road from Seven Loves Chowk to Golibar Maidan will be closed. These vehicles will take the route via Salisbury Park, CDO Chowk and Bhairoba Nala. Road connecting Old Solapur Bazar Chowky and Golibar Maidan will be closed. Vehicles coming from Khane Maruti Chowk will be routed via Pulgate Depot, Solapur Bazar Chowk, Napier Road and Khatav Bungalow. The road from Lullanagar to Golibar Maidan will be closed for heavy goods vehicles, private buses, PMPML and MSRTC buses. These vehicles will be diverted via Bhairoba Nala Chowk or Gangadham Chowk. Officials said that namaz prayers will be held across the city at various Eidgah Grounds.

People urged to plant saplings to improve greenery
Bhimavaram: West Godavari district collector Chadalawada Nagarani said that in addition to planting trees to improve greenery, efforts are being made to control plastic pollution. On Thursday, to celebrate World Environment Day, a large-scale programme was taken up in the district to plant saplings and remove plastic waste from canals and drains under 'Vanam-Manam.' As part of this, collector Nagarani, District Superintendent of Police Adnan Nayeem Asmi, district Joint Collector T Rahul Kumar Reddy, DRO Mogili Venkateswarlu, and district officials from various departments enthusiastically participated in the sapling planting programme at Collectorate here. Later, collector Nagarani participated in the programme to remove plastic waste along the Vissakoderu canal and on the footpaths at the overpass on JP Road. She inspected the waste removal work being done in the canals under the auspices of the Irrigation Department and made several suggestions to the irrigation officials. As part of the waste removal, the soil placed on the banks was ordered to be moved to another area in a day or two. She ordered that the waste removal work in the four main canals in Bhimavaram town be completed on a war footing. She advised the municipal and police officials not to allow coconut shells along the canal banks under any circumstances and that action should be taken against this. Speaking on the occasion, collector Nagarani said that a programme to plant 3.85 lakh saplings has been started across the district as part of World Environment Day. Preparations have been made for planting saplings in government offices, places, roads, along the canal banks and panchayat places. She asked the people to be partners in this and to bring about a change in the climate by planting saplings in the house premises and in open spaces outside. She said that nurseries have been developed in Venkataramannagudem, Seetharampuram and Konithivada villages of the district under the supervision of the Forest Department. She said that plants are the oxygen for humans and it is everyone's responsibility to plant trees in large numbers. She said that staff from all departments took part to remove waste in the canals. District Additional SP V Bhima Rao, District Forest Officer D Asha Kiran, and others participated in the programme.
