Wimbledon 2025 odds and predictions as Carlos Alcaraz face Jannik Sinner
Once again, the world's top two tennis titans are squaring off in back-to-back Grand Slam finals. Not long ago, at the clay courts of Roland Garros, we bore witness to one of the most thrilling spectacles the sport has ever seen. Alcaraz clawed his way back from a two-set deficit to clinch the French Open title. Now, they're back for another showdown on the hallowed grass of Wimbledon.
Alcaraz's journey to the final saw him outlast Taylor Fritz in a gruelling four-set match. The start of his Wimbledon campaign was rocky, with a nail-biting five-setter in the first round. But Alcaraz found his stride as the tournament progressed. He faced Fritz, ranked fifth globally, who was playing some of his best tennis yet. But Alcaraz's sublime form proved too much, and he won in four sets. His game is currently peerless, making him an incredibly formidable opponent.
However, there's one player who can match Alcaraz's current greatness - Sinner. The reigning World No. 1 made quick work of tennis legend Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, defeating him in straight sets, mirroring their encounter at Roland Garros. Sinner's journey had its share of drama too. In the Round of 16, his opponent Grigor Dimitrov had to withdraw due to injury despite leading by two sets. This unexpected reprieve allowed Sinner to reach the quarterfinals where he overpowered Ben Shelton. Though he played excellent tennis in the semis against a less-than-peak Djokovic, it's challenging to gauge Sinner's true form. But one thing is clear - apart from those two sets against Dimitrov, Sinner has been flawless throughout this tournament.

Defending champion Pegula sent packing by Sevastova at Canadian Open, Swiatek through
Aug 2 (Reuters) - Twice defending champion Jessica Pegula crashed out of the Canadian Open after losing to Anastasija Sevastova 3-6 6-4 6-1 in the third round on Friday, while six-times major winner Iga Swiatek marched on with a dominant 6-2 6-2 win over Eva Lys. The 35-year-old Sevastova, ranked 386 in the world, will next face four-times Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka, who took out Latvian 22nd seed Jelena Ostapenko 6-2 6-4. "I don't know," Sevastova said after upsetting third seed Pegula. "Somehow, I was down 2-0 in the second set and started to play better and better. Third set, I played really good. Just trying to stay on the court as long as possible." Wimbledon runner-up Amanda Anisimova, seeded fifth in Montreal, carved out a comfortable win over Emma Raducanu, beating the 2021 U.S. Open champion 6-2 6-1. Anisimova's win over Raducanu is her first, having lost their previous two encounters. She will next face Ukrainian 10th seed Elina Svitolina. In the men's draw, American second seed Taylor Fritz made light work of local hope Gabriel Diallo, beating the 27th seed 6-4 6-2. Fritz, who is eyeing a third title of the season after triumphs in Eastbourne and Stuttgart, will next take on Czech 19th seed Jiri Lehecka. "Even the games that I didn't serve my best in, I felt like I backed it up really well from the baseline, so I'm happy with that," Fritz said. American fourth seed Ben Shelton, however, was made to work hard by countryman Brandon Nakashima before managing a 6-7(8) 6-2 7-6(5) win. "It was back and forth," Shelton said. "There were a lot of huge moments, like being able to break back after getting broken in my first service game of the third set. I feel like I showed a lot of perseverance tonight." Next up for Shelton is Italian 13th seed Flavio Cobolli.

Ruben Amorim plots two more signings after Benjamin Sesko with Man Utd frontrunners
Manchester United have been linked with a move for Benjamin Sesko, but it appears Ruben Amorim will not be satisfied if they only sign the young Slovenian Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim will have his eye on signing two more players, even if they secure a deal for Benjamin Sesko. The Red Devils are pursuing the RB Leipzig forward, who is also wanted by Newcastle United, and are said to be the frontrunners for his signature. Amorim has already been busy in the transfer window, wrapping up a deal for £62.5million Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, before forking out a furthe r £71m on Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo. However, with United's form on the floor since he took over from the sacked Erik ten Hag, Amorim is still looking to bolster his squad. Sesko, 22, could cost United as much as £70m, which would take their spending past the £200m mark. Nevertheless, recent reports indicate Amorim wants to add more depth to his squad. According to the Sun, if the Red Devils do secure Sesko's signature, Amorim will still want to add two more players to his squad. One of those will be a back-up goalkeeper to Andre Onana. It's understood Antwerp's shot-stopper, Senne Lammens, is in their sights at this current moment. However, Onana's future as No. 1 was also thrown into doubt when United were linked with a surprise move for Paris Saint-Germain No. 1 Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian only has one year left on his deal at the Parc des Princes, but talks over a new deal in the French capital recently hit a wall. While the Manchester Evening News recently stated Onana has been informed his position as United's No. 1 is still intact, the shot-stopper has often left plenty to be desired. Onana, 29, was signed from Inter Milan by Ten Hag in the summer of 2023 for £47m. While there have been some positive moments, the Cameroonian has been largely inconsistent. Meanwhile, second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has mainly featured in the League Cup and the FA Cup. Despite being handed the No. 1 shirt when he signed from Fenerbahce for £4.3m in the same summer, the Turkish international has only made four Premier League appearances. However, it is clear that a move for Sesko has taken priority over everything else. Fabrizio Romano recently claimed United will send a "formal bid" to Leipzig, if or when the player indicates he wants to move to Old Trafford. Newcastle have still been linked with him and recently rejected a £110m bid from Liverpool for Alexander Isak. But in and amongst the rumours, current United forward Rasmus Hojlund pledged to remain a red and compete for his place. The Dane recently said: "I think my plan is very clear and that's for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens. Competition is fine with me, it sharpens me. "I'm more than ready. I'm feeling sharp, so I'm welcoming everything that comes. I think it's good with competition and it only sharpens the team. 'I'm still very young. I think people forget that sometimes. I'm only 22. Obviously, not every striker is scoring 100 goals at the age of 22. But I've learned a lot, I think you can see in my game." Raducanu beaten by Amanda Anisimova in Canadian Open third round
Emma Raducanu was dumped out of the National Bank Open in Montreal as she went down 6-2, 6-1 to the American fifth seed Amanda Anisimova. Raducanu had won both of their previous meetings, but rarely looked like extending that run as she held her serve only once in either set. Anisimova, who reached the Wimbledon final last month only to lose 6-0, 6-0 to Iga Swiatek, came from 40-15 down to break Raducanu's serve in the second game of the match and, although the British No1 broke back immediately, she was unable to fashion another break point in the contest. Anisimova broke again to make it 3-1 and added a third break to wrap up the set. Her dominance continued in the second set as Raducanu won only eight points on her own serve, avoiding the whitewash after losing the first five games before Anisimova served out for a place in the fourth round. She will face seed the No10 Elina Svitolina or Anna Kalinskaya in the last 16. Raducanu is currently ranked No33, which is her highest position since September 2022, when she lost the ranking points from her US Open triumph the previous year. It puts her right on the cusp of being seeded for the final grand-slam tournament of the season at Flushing Meadows, which begins later this month. Her next opportunity to cement that seeding will likely be at the Cincinnati Open where, despite this defeat, she will be confident of putting together a string of victories. Since putting in a strong performance in a third-round defeat by world No1 Aryna Sabalenka at Wimbledon, Raducanu has won five of her seven matches, all in straight sets. Wimbledon champion Swiatek needed little more than an hour to complete a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Germany's Eva Lys in Montreal, but Jessica Pegula's bid for a third straight Canadian Open title was ended by world No386 Anastasija Sevastova. The Latvian, a former world No11 who has had lengthy spells out on maternity leave and with a torn ACL, came back from a set down to beat the third seed 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
