Record crowd sees 'incredible' Cherries seal title
Bournemouth boss Steve Cuss hailed his all-conquering side's "incredible achievement" as they sealed promotion to the third tier of women's football by beating Bristol Rovers in front of a record crowd at Vitality Stadium. The Cherries have now won all 18 of their FA Women's National League Division One South West fixtures to date, scoring 82 goals and conceding a meagre three in the process.Sunday's 2-0 victory, which secured the title and a place in next year's Southern Premier Division with four games to play, was witnessed by 7,076 fans - the highest-ever Bournemouth attendance for a women's game.Cuss told BBC Radio Solent: "We just fell a little bit short last season but the response of the players has been magnificent, to do what we've done."It's an incredible achievement and I'm so very proud of them. It's a very special day, a special season with a special group of players."Who would have thought at the start of the season that we'd get 7,000 people here at Vitality Stadium? It's a dream come true."Both sides struck the woodwork in Sunday's game before Jenna Markham put the Cherries ahead late in the first half with her 20th goal of the season.Markham had another attempt ruled out for offside, but the home side doubled their lead midway through the second period when Katie James converted from substitute Ellie Strippel's cross."They [Rovers] nearly scored on a couple of occasions, but we've found ways to keep the ball out of the back of the net – that's been our strength," Cuss added."Again they were strong in defence and the moments of quality came our way. I'm delighted with the girls."

What are the aims of Cherries academy?
Following the release of a behind-the-scenes documentary focused on the Bournemouth academy, Cherries academy manager Sam Gisborne spoke to BBC Radio Solent about the youth setup at the club: "It's in a really good spot. Last season was our second season as a category two academy and we want to get to a point where we are a category one academy."Our mission is 'affect the 25' where every year we want to be affecting the 25-man squad that is involved in the Premier League. Our long-term vision is to develop our first team-captains."There is no standing still in the academy - we are in a really good spot but we still have a long way to go."Listen to the full interview with Sam Gisborne on BBC Sounds

Chelsea slammed for selling 'unbelievable' player to Arsenal
Chelsea have been warned they are making a mistake selling Kepa Arrizabalaga to Premier League rivals Arsenal. Mikel Arteta is set to welcome the 30-year-old to Arsenal in the coming days as he looks for a new back-up goalkeeper. Loan signing Neto performed that role for the Gunners last season but struggled in his one and only appearance and has now returned to Bournemouth. Arsenal believe Kepa can be a capable deputy to Raya next season and have reportedly agreed a £5m deal with London rivals Chelsea. Chelsea spent £72m on Kepa in 2018 – making him the most expensive goalkeeper in history – but the Spain international struggled at Stamford Bridge before losing his place in the team. Despite Kepa returning to Chelsea from his season-long loan at Bournemouth, the Blues have expressed interest in signing a new shot-stopper this summer and clearly do not rate the soon-to-be Arsenal player. But former Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has questioned the decision to sell Kepa to Arsenal following his 'unbelievable' season on the south coast. Wright-Phillips even believes Kepa could have emerged as Chelsea's No. 1 once more, saving the club potentially millions this summer. 'I'm confused. I don't understand,' Wright-Phillips told Betway when asked abut Kepa's imminent move to the Emirates Stadium. 'It's like nobody's been watching Kepa this season. He's been unbelievable. He is part of the reason why Bournemouth finished where they finished. Arsenal hero Ray Parlour believes Kepa should reject a summer move to his beloved Gunners. 'It's all on whether he wants to play, he's not going to play at Arsenal is he? 'He's going to be the No.2, do you want to be No.2? He's obviously been No.1 at Bournemouth. If you're Arsenal, you want to buy him because he's a great No.2 to have. 'But if you're Kepa, you want to play unless you're happy to sit on the bench but if I was a keeper at his age I'd want to play because you'll regret it once you finish.' Speaking to talkSPORT 'The defence was outstanding, but Kepa was unbelievable, as well, I thought. 'I assumed while the season was going on that Chelsea didn't need to buy a goalkeeper because Kepa was going back anyway, but that isn't to be the case. 'You can have as good a goalkeeper as you want, but if you're still going to make the same mistakes in defence, your goalkeeper is still going to concede. 'That's just the fact of the matter. [Liverpool goalkeeper] Alisson pulls off amazing saves when he's needed. Half the time he has to pull off a save, it's not forced errors. 'So if Chelsea can get their defence like that, where they're not making him make unnecessary saves he shouldn't have to make, then I think Kepa is your man to keep. You don't need to forage around. 'Most managers now are looking for goalkeepers that are good with their feet. I think Kepa's alright with his feet, but he might not be at the level they want him to be. More Trending 'But for me, it's a real strange one.' Chelsea are looking to sign a new goalkeeper following Robert Sanchez's inconsistent season at Stamford Bridge. The Blues were in advanced talks to sign France's No. 1 Mike Maignan from AC Milan but the deal collapsed earlier this week, with Chelsea unwilling to match the Serie A club's valuation. Chelsea have multiple goalkeepers on their books but Sanchez has flattered to deceive between the sticks and Dorde Petrovic is set to leave in the pursuit of more game-time. Justin Kluivert opens up on Milos Kerkez to Liverpool transfer - 'I hope so'
Liverpool are in negotiations with Bournemouth over a transfer for left-back Milos Kerkez and his team-mate Justin Kluivert has admitted that he will be leaving soon Bournemouth star Justin Kluivert has admitted that Milos Kerkez is on his way to Liverpool this summer. Liverpool are in talks to sign the Bournemouth left-back in the summer transfer window and the deal now appears to be a matter of time. The Reds are currently focusing on a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, having submitted a bid of £100million plus £14m of add-ons on Friday. But sporting director Richard Hughes is also working on a potential £45m deal for Kerkez, who could usurp Andy Robertson as the team's first-choice left-back next season. Kerkez is keen to move to Merseyside and withdrew from international duty with Hungary last week to step up speculation that a deal is close to completion. The Cherries have lined up a £14.4m deal for Stade Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert as a replacement for Kerkez and his team-mates are expecting the deal to go through soon. Speaking after the Netherlands thrashed Malta 8-0 on Tuesday night, Kluivert revealed his feelings on the move. 'He'll probably go there. I hope so for him,' he told Voetbal Primeur. 'He hasn't really said goodbye yet, but I hope he'll make it happen there.' Kerkez will fetch a decent transfer fee for Bournemouth because he is under contract until June 2028. But he will be a big miss for Andoni Iraola's side, having started all 38 Premier League matches last season and chipped in with two goals and six assists. Cherries technical director Simon Francis is the man tasked with negotiating the exit with former Bournemouth employee Hughes. With a deal for 23-year-old Rennes star Truffert lined up, everything is in place from their perspective. Liverpool won the Premier League title in Arne Slot 's debut season but know they can't afford to stand still in the summer transfer window. The club have already shown their intent by signing Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen for £29.5m to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Giorgi Mamardashvili is arriving from Valencia after being signed last summer to replace Caoimhin Kelleher, who left in a £18m deal for Brentford. HAVE YOUR SAY! Will Milos Kerkez go straight into Liverpool's best XI next season? Comment below. Wirtz is the central piece of the jigsaw, but there is a feeling that Kerkez represents a serious upgrade on Robertson, who has been first-choice left-back since joining in 2017. The 31-year-old has one year left on his current deal but has insisted he is ready to fight for his place in the side. "We're not daft, it looks as if a deal could potentially be done," Robertson told BBC Scotland. "But, until that is done, I've not even given that a second thought. I back myself, I've got confidence in my own ability and that drives me forward. "I've had eight fantastic years at Liverpool in terms of winning trophies, being a mainstay in the team, which I'm incredibly proud of. I'm not getting any younger, I can't change my age, but I still believe I've got a lot to give and that's what I focus on. I focus on myself – you can't focus on other people or who you're competing with.' Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
