RTA makes major upgrades to key Business Bay roads
Calling all motorists, the RTA has just upgraded the roads in one of Dubai's most popular neighbourhoods.
In a statement on Wednesday June 25, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority confirmed it had completed three major traffic improvements in the Business Bay area.
Expanding and upgrading several locations, the road which connects directly to Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road has been given a makeover.

Hoping to improve traffic flow and road safety, the works should also reduce travel times for drivers.
As part of the upgrades, the street parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road was converted from a two-lane, two-way road into a one-way dual roadway, with updated signage and road markings.
Designed to increase traffic flow, the works have now increased capacity by 100 percent along the road.

In addition, a 100-metre-long storage lane was added at the intersection of Al Mustaqbal Street with Al Khaleej Al Tejari 1 Street to increase right-turn capacity towards First Al Khail Street by up to 50 percent.
Finally, the RTA confirmed it has also expanded the entrance to the bridge on Al Mustaqbal Street over the canal in the direction of First Al Khail Street from one lane to two, doubling its capacity.
Hoping to ease traffic congestion during peak hours, the junction onto the bridge is now easier to access.
In addition to the Business Bay upgrades, there are a series of additional projects underway throughout Dubai to make your commute even easier.

Dubai Metro Jebel Ali Station changes its name
Commuters in Dubai may be confused the next time they rock up to Jebel Ali Metro Station as it has been renamed. RTA has granted the naming rights of Jebel Ali Metro Station to National Paints Metro Station and this change will be in effect for the next ten years. You'll also notice the new names popping up across RTA's smart systems, public transport apps, and even in the onboard audio announcements before and when you arrive at each station. 'The inclusion of this prestigious global company undoubtedly demonstrates the remarkable success achieved by this initiative, which had attracted diverse companies and establishments from the business sector across the UAE as a whole.' When is the next public holiday after Islamic New Year?
Following the announcement of the Islamic New Year public holiday date in 2025, it's time to look ahead to the next public holiday after the three-day long weekend. The long weekend will kick off on Friday June 27 for all employees in the United Arab Emirates, giving us a bumper break. And we'll need to savour the time off as we're not due to get another public holiday in the UAE for another three months. After Islamic New Year comes The Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH), according to the official public holiday law introduced at the start of 2025. Predicted to fall on Friday September 5 in 2025, people living in Dubai and the rest of the UAE are in line for another three-day long weekend when the celebration arrives. (Credit: Shutterstock) The Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) birthday, celebrated during Rabi Al-Awwal – the third month of the Islamic calendar – is widely recognised across many Islamic nations, including those in the Gulf region. If Rabi' Al-Awwal begins on Monday August 25, then the Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH) should fall on Friday September 5. This would give Dubai residents a three-day long weekend when combined with Saturday and Sunday. But if Rabi' Al-Awwal begins on Sunday August 24, then Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH) should fall on Thursday September 4. This would give Dubai residents an additional day off during the working week. However, following the introduction of the UAE public holiday law at the start of 2025, the date of Islamic holidays can be moved to the start or end of the week if the cabinet decides to move it.
