Massive blaze rips through Pets at Home as three people arrested
Thick black smoke was seen billowing high into the sky and visible for miles.
Firefighters worked tirelessly into the early hours as a fierce inferno engulfed a Dunelm store at a shopping precinct over the weekend. The emergency services were summoned to the retail park off Towcester Road in Northampton just after 3pm on Saturday, with dense black smoke seen for miles around.
Photographs from the scene depicted numerous fire engines in attendance, with the blaze threatening to spread to a neighbouring Pets at Home outlet. A striking video posted by Twitter user @tonyamk showcased the immense smoke column as the fire devastated the area.
Three individuals have been detained by Northamptonshire Police under suspicion of arson and are currently being held as enquiries proceed.
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service personnel remained on site on Sunday, issuing a statement that read: "At this time, the smoke from the fire continues to blow toward the town centre and we would still advise people in the local area to keep windows and doors shut."
Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Tuff commented: "At the present time, we believe this fire to have been started deliberately and throughout the day, have made a number of fast-paced enquiries which has led to these three arrests.", reports the Mirror.
"However, I now want to appeal to the public for any information which could help our investigation. If you were in, or near, the Dunelm store this afternoon and saw anything suspicious, please contact us."
DCI Tuff remarked: "I am particularly interested in speaking to a man who allegedly saw people setting fires in the Dunelm toilets a short time before the incident was reported.
"This incident has not only caused significant damage and disruption but will have had a very serious effect on the wellbeing of the local people who work in Dunelm and the surrounding stores. Therefore if anyone knows anything, I would please urge you to come forward. Witnesses or anyone with information should call Northamptonshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
A representative from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service commented: "Our fire crews are still on the scene of a fire at the St James Retail Park in Northampton this morning (June 1). At this time, the smoke from the fire continues to blow toward the town centre and we would still advise people in the local area to keep windows and doors shut.
"The retail park will remain closed until further notice. Thank you to the public for their support while we continue to deal with this incident."

Boy, 15, arrested after being 'seen with gun' in Liverpool
A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a member of the public reported seeing what they believed was a gun in his pocket. Police were called to Merthyr Grove, Childwall, shortly after 3:05pm on Thursday 5 June following reports of a suspicious item. Officers found and arrested the teenager around nearly 30 minutes later on Chelwood Avenue. He was detained on suspicion of possessing a firearm and has been taken into custody for questioning. Merseyside Police confirmed there is no indication the item was used to threaten or harm anyone. The teenager is believed to have travelled from Inchcape Road before being stopped by officers. A significant police presence was seen in the area, including officers carrying out door-to-door enquiries and searches using sniffer dogs. Police dogs were spotted combing through grass, trees, and front gardens along Bowring Park Road, and officers also searched areas near the Greystone Footbridge over the M62. In a statement, Merseyside Police said no weapon had yet been recovered, and a full forensic examination of the scene is underway. Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses as part of the investigation. Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher said: 'Merseyside Police investigates all firearms-related reports thoroughly and will pursue anyone involved in carrying or using weapons. 'We are grateful to members of the public who reported this incident, allowing us to make a swift arrest. Officers remain in the area conducting extensive enquiries. Epstein files explained: Michael Jackson, Prince Andrew and other celebs named in documents
The names in the Jeffrey Epstein files have been released and include many high profile figures. The previously confidential court papers connected to Jeffrey Epstein have now been disclosed, revealing the identities of several notable individuals. Elon Musk terminated his once close relationship with Donald Trump in dramatic fashion this evening, as he prepared to unveil what he termed a massive "bomb" about the former president. Using his X (Twitter) profile, the world's wealthiest individual announced it was "Time to drop the really big bomb", subsequently alleging that Donald Trump "is in the Epstein files". Last year, Trump was mentioned as an acquaintance of the infamous financier Jeffrey Epstein when certain sensitive court documents were uncovered. However, there are no implications that Donald Trump had knowledge of any illicit activities, nor that he engaged in criminal conduct. Among the high-profile figures listed are Michael Jackson, Prince Andrew, and Leonardo DiCaprio, alongside politicians such as Bill Clinton and Donald Trump. These records encompass not just Epstein's accusers but also members of his staff who shared their accounts with the press, individuals who delivered testimonies at Maxwell's trial, those mentioned incidentally during depositions without being accused of any inappropriate conduct, and investigators of Epstein, covering prosecutors, a journalist, and a police officer, reports the Mirror. When the decision to unseal documents was made public, it sparked speculation about a potential list of "clients" or "co-conspirators." However, the presiding judge clarified her decision to release the records, noting that much of the content is already in the public domain. The documents are set to reveal names such as former FBI director Louis Freeh, politicians like Al Gore, Bill Clinton, and Donald Trump, along with actors Cate Blanchett, Naomi Campbell, Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Bruce Willis. Also listed are the late physicist Stephen Hawking and illusionist David Copperfield. Jeffrey Epstein was a billionaire known for his connections with high-profile figures, including celebrities, politicians, billionaires, and academic luminaries. He was first arrested in Palm Beach, Florida, in 2005 after allegations surfaced that he paid a 14 year old gir l for sex. Subsequent accounts from dozens of other underage girls detailed similar instances of sexual abuse, but in 2008, prosecutors allowed Epstein to plead guilty to a charge involving just one victim. He served 13 months in a jail work-release program. For comprehensive coverage of the latest news, politics, sports, and entertainment from the USA, visit The Mirror US. Despite his conviction, some of Epstein's famous contacts, including ex-presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, distanced themselves from him, while others did not. Epstein continued to socialise with the elite, often through his charitable activities, for another decade. The judge ruled that a few names should remain redacted in the documents as they would reveal the identities of those who suffered sexual abuse. Before the documents were unsealed, the names were listed in court papers under various versions of J Doe. Many individuals on the list had already been publicly identified as associates of Epstein through years of media coverage. Prince Andrew has vehemently denied all allegations, with Buckingham Palace previously stating that the allegations are "categorically untrue". Below is a list of some names that have been released so far, as reported by Newsweek. Those listed were named as associates of Epstein, and there is no implication that they were aware of his crimes or involved in any criminal activity.

Donald Trump 'in Epstein files' as Elon Musk ends US President bromance
The world's richest man, once known as Trump's 'First Buddy', just accused the sitting US president of being named in classified government files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Elon Musk has said President Donald Trump "is in the Epstein files" as he brought his bromance with the political leader to an end following a spat between the pair. The Tesla boss said it was "Time to drop the really big bomb" about his friend-turned-foe as their relationship seemed to come to a petty end, played out on social media. Musk, 53, made the claim on his account on X, formerly Twitter. Trump's name was released as previously sealed court documents were made public last year, in which he was named as an associate of the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. The Mirror reports there is no suggestion Donald Trump knew of any crimes or participated in any criminal behaviour. South African billionaire Musk bought his way into Washington by pumping millions into Trump's campaign. And he took to X to add more fuel to the fire raging between the former pals. Musk was Trump's right hand man, but left his special government position as the Department of Government Efficiency. It had been specially set up by the President for the Tesla CEO who seemed to be longing for a top job in Washington - a week ago. The fall out between Musk and Trump has gotten out of control in just a few days, spiralling into a series of petty online fights. The bromance was never built to last. A billionaire with delusions of being America's saviour, and a career reality-TV president with a steel spine for betrayal - the only surprise is that it took this long to implode. 'Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files,' Musk declared on X, the platform he owns. 'That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!' Let that sink in. The world's richest man, once known as Trump's 'First Buddy', just accused the sitting US president of being named in classified government files related to Jeffrey Epstein. The convicted sex offender's name is now synonymous with a global elite scandal. No cryptic memes. No dog whistles. Just a nuclear accusation, live on the platform Musk controls. And it didn't come out of nowhere. This bomb was wrapped in a detonator: Trump's £960 billion trillion spending 'big, beautiful' spending bill, which gutted electric vehicle tax credits and wiped nearly £29.5 billion off Tesla's value in a single day. Musk's flagship company has now hit the skids. The man who once boasted of 'saving Western civilisation' by putting Trump back on Twitter now finds himself politically exiled and financially wounded by the very man he helped re-elect. Of course, this was never just about policy. This is about ego, power, and two men who can't stand being second to anyone. Musk had reason to believe he was a kingmaker. Musk responded "Yes" to a post where another X user said: "President vs Elon. Who wins? My money's on Elon. Trump should be impeached and JD Vance should replace him."
