Shilpa Layout flyover set to open in the first week of June
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has informed through a media release that the works for the flyover are almost complete, and efforts are being made to launch the structure in the first week of June.
The flyover is expected to bring down the traffic congestion at the Gachibowli junction, saving a lot of time and fuel for the commuters, the note said. It has been built with ₹178 crore expenditure as part of the Strategic Road Development Plan.
Stretching over a length of 1.2 kilometres and width of 24 metres, the six lane flyover arches over the existing Level 1 flyover at Gachibowli junction, and the Shilpa Layout Phase-I flyover, which is the second level flyover.
This facility will ease the traffic between ORR and Kondapur and Hafeezpet, besides improving the connectivity with Hitech City and Financial District. Besides, it will reduce the travel time to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, the note mentioned. It will be the 23rd flyover and 37th structure built under the SRDP project which was designed with 42 structures.
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan urged the South Central Railway to complete the latter's portion of the railway overbridges at Shastripuram and Falaknuma within three months, it said.

Telangana high court refuses to interfere with GHMC order on closure of beef shops
Hyderabad: The Telangana high court on Thursday said it cannot interfere with the GHMC's orders directing the closure of beef shops and slaughterhouses on August 15 and 16 in view of Independence Day and Sri Krishna Janmashtami. The court also refused to grant a stay, noting that the petitioner was not engaged in beef sales. The GHMC commissioner issued the closure orders on August 4. Vadla Srikanth of Tarnaka challenged them in the high court, alleging a violation of fundamental rights. Justice B Vijaysen Reddy heard the matter. The petitioner's counsel argued that the GHMC lacked the authority to issue such directions, which allegedly violated Articles 14 and 19(1)(g) of the Constitution, and that closing only beef shops amounted to discrimination. Observing that the petitioner was a consumer and not a trader, the court suggested filing a Public Interest Litigation in such matters. The case was adjourned to August 28. ‘Unconstitutional', says Owaisi on GHMC's meat ban order on I-Day
Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has termed the GHMC's order for closure of meat shops and slaughterhouses on Independence Day as 'unconstitutional'. He slammed the civic body for issuing such an order, calling it a violation of the right to livelihood and nutrition. Addressing the media, Owaisi said: "Many municipal corporations in India seemed to have ordered that slaughterhouses and meat shops should be closed on Aug 15. Unfortunately, GHMC has also made a similar order. This is callous and unconstitutional. What's the connection between eating meat and celebrating Independence Day? Expedite work on Nalgonda X Road flyover: GHMC chief RV Karnan
Hyderabad: GHMC commissioner RV Karnan on Tuesday directed officials to expedite the construction of the 2.58-km four-lane bi-directional flyover from Nalgonda X Road to Owaisi Junction. He asked them to resolve land acquisition hurdles to meet the targeted completion date of March 2026. Once completed, the project, being executed at a cost of Rs 620 crore, is expected to ease traffic congestion along one of the city's busiest stretches, spanning from the govt printing press in Chanchalguda to Yadagiri Theatre via Saidabad and IS Sadan. During the inspection, the commissioner emphasised the need to maintain both speed and quality in execution. Project engineers reaffirmed their commitment to completing the work on the flyover by March 2026 deadline. Addressing delays due to pending land acquisition, Karnan instructed town planning officials to resolve these issues immediately to prevent further setbacks.
