Sheikh Ahmed Tayeb welcomed Pope Francis in Cairo in 2017
CAIRO – 23 February 2025: The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb wished Pope Francis of the vatican a speedy recovry.
'I pray to Allah to grant my dear brother, Pope Francis, a swift recovery and to bless him with good health and well-being so that he may continue his journey in serving humanity,' Sheikh Al-Tayeb said on his Facebook page on Sunday.
Pope Francis has been admitted to Rome's Gemelli hospital, where he is being treated from pneumonia, the Vatican News reported Holy See Press Office on February 22, 2025.
It added that Pope's condition is very critcal and 'the Pope is not out of danger' and the blood tests also showed 'thrombocytopenia, associated with anemia.'
Last year in February, the Grand Imam praised Pope Francis as a man of humanity of a high caliber in a meeting on Thursday with a US religious dialogue delegation. Al-Tayeb said the convergence of visions with Pope Francis led us to create the Document on Human Fraternity, which took a full year of hard work to come out to the world in its current form.
Pope Francis and Al-Tayeb signed the Document of Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together in February 2019 in Abu Dhabi, UAE, with the aim of promoting coexistence among religions.
Since Pope Francis assumed the papacy of the Holy See, relations between Al-Azhar, a leading Sunni Islamic institute representing over 2 billion people worldwide, and the Vatican has improved and resumed after several years of tension. This restoration followed the accusations made by Al-Azhar against the late Pope Benedict XVI, who was criticized for 'addressing Islam negatively.'

Repeated Strikes on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital Part of Israel's Policy to Empty Gaza of Life, Says Director

Ahmed Emam Dr. Fadel Naeem, Director of Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza, has condemned the repeated targeting of the hospital by Israeli forces, saying it reflects a deliberate policy aimed at dismantling Gaza's healthcare infrastructure and forcibly displacing its population. Speaking to Egypt Media, Dr. Naeem confirmed that the hospital was hit again in recent hours, in what he described as the latest incident in a series of attacks. 'This is not the first time,' he said. 'The hospital was previously subjected to a horrific strike on October 17, 2023, and has since suffered three more attacks. The occupation does not differentiate between hospitals, streets, or markets. Everything in Gaza has become a target.' In the same connection, Dr. Naeem emphasized that the broader objective of these attacks appears to be making Gaza uninhabitable. With several major hospitals, including Kamal Adwan and Al-Awda, now out of service, Al-Ahli Baptist is under immense pressure, he said. 'There are currently only two main centers providing medical care in the north — Al-Shifa Center and the Red Crescent Emergency Unit.' The latest attack also claimed the lives of four journalists, in addition to civilians, hospital staff, and paramedics. Dr. Naeem denounced the targeting of journalists as a means to suppress the truth and conceal the scale of civilian suffering. 'This is about silencing the witnesses to what is happening in Gaza,' he said. Beyond the loss of life, the psychological toll on medical staff has been severe. 'When our colleagues are injured or killed inside the hospital, working becomes far more difficult than dealing with mass casualties from outside,' Naeem noted. Despite the escalating dangers, he reaffirmed the commitment of Gaza's medical teams to continue their mission. 'We took an oath to save lives,' he said. 'And we will carry on — no matter what the cost.' read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Israel turns aid centers in Gaza into death traps against Palestinians: Health Ministry

A screenshot of a video footage showing thousands of Palestinians run away after Israeli forces opened fire on them at aid center distribution in Gaza- CAIRO – 1 June 2025: Israeli forces opened fire at thousands of starved Palestinian displaced people in Gaza, killing and injuring the hundreds in the aid distribution centers in the besigeed enclave on Sunday. Al Arabiya net reported that more than 40 people were killed and more than 150 others were injured by Israeli forces at the aid centers. The Palestinian Ministry of Health – Gaza said that the so-called "aid centers" have become Israeli death traps and a tool for the forced displacement of Gaza residents. The Palestinian Ministry of Health stated that the Israeli occupation is using the new mechanism it established for distributing aid in the Gaza Strip to traps for mass killings in the Strip and a tool for the forced displacement of Gaza residents. In press statements today, Sunday, the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Munir Al-Barsh, expressed his condemnation of the international silence regarding the massacres being committed against the starving residents of the Gaza Strip. Dr. Al-Barsh also indicated that Gaza hospitals are facing dire conditions in light of the severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies, noting that the occupation is still preventing approximately 3,000 trucks carrying medical supplies located in the Egyptian city of Al-Arish from crossing into the Gaza Strip. Dr. Al-Barash pointed out that the occupation deliberately spreads infectious diseases and epidemics by continuing to prevent the flow of medicines and vaccines, pointing to the spread of many vector-borne diseases, acute bloody diarrhea, and meningitis, in addition to depriving the population of water security, as 90% of the population suffers from water insecurity. According to the daily statistical report on the death and injury tolls as a result of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, 37 martyrs (including 5 recovered martyrs) and 136 injuries were admitted to Gaza Strip hospitals in the past 24 hours. So, the death toll from the Israeli aggression has risen to 54,418 martyrs and 124,190 injuries since October 7, 2023. A number of victims are still under the rubble and on the streets, unable to be reached by ambulances and civil defense crews. The death toll and injuries since March 18, 2025 have reached (4,149 martyrs, 12,149 injuries).

CAIRO – 26 May 2025: 30 people including women and Children were killed, Monday morning in Gaza due to an Israeli bombing to a school housing a large number of displaced persons, according to spokesperson for the Palestinian Ministry of Health Khalil Al-Daqran. He added that dozens of other civilians are suffering critical injuries, describing the health and humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip as 'catastrophic' due to the continuing military escalations. In a phone call with Extra News channel, the spokesperson indicated that the intense shelling around the school charred the bodies and turned the area into rubble and scattered body parts. He explained that hospitals, most notably the Baptist Hospital and Al-Shifa Hospital, received the bodies of the martyrs and the injured under extremely difficult operating conditions, as these hospitals are only partially operational due to the situation. Al-Daqran explained that more than 50 injured children, women, and elderly were transferred to hospitals suffering from critical head and chest injuries, as well as second- and third-degree burns. He noted that the Israeli occupying forces used internationally prohibited weapons during the attack, in clear violation of international humanitarian law.
