If you leave the Fort and go south past the Port, there is a hill covered in thick forest known as Rumassla Kanda. This location has been linked to the Ramayana legend, and visitors can take a hike to the summit of this scenic hill. The land around Rumassala is known as 'Buona Vista' and offers stunning views of the bay, the Fort and Galle town. Visitors can also head to the beautiful and hidden Jungle Beach, located at the summit of the hill. Direct access from here is possible but it's a steep trek down. Alternatively, you can reach it from Unawatuna Beach. The beach is safe for swimming, with clear blue waters and white sands, though it can get a little busy during the tourist season.
