MACC probes online media firm over smuggling syndicate links
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the owner of the company would be summoned soon to provide a statement.
'We have reason to believe the media company is being used as a front to enable and facilitate money laundering activities,' he told Bernama today.
Azam added that investigations are ongoing to determine the company's involvement in the smuggling operation.
He also revealed that the two journalists arrested, along with eight other individuals—including senior military officers, are believed to have previously served in the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).
'They are former MAF personnel, and initial investigations suggest they may have provided information to the smugglers,' Azam said.
On Wednesday (Aug 13), the media reported that MACC had remanded 10 individuals, including five senior MAF officers and two journalists from a news portal, suspected of involvement in a smuggling syndicate in the southern part of the country.
Also remanded were a company manager, an administrative assistant from the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA), and a foreign woman.
The suspects, aged between 30 and 55, were arrested in the Klang Valley during Op Sohor, conducted by MACC's Intelligence Division in collaboration with the police (PDRM). - Bernama

Despite not airing the full podcast episode, Caprice continued attacking Muhammad Asyraf publicly. The lawsuit claims Caprice's actions led to public backlash and tarnished Muhammad Asyraf's reputation. Muhammad Asyraf seeks an injunction to prevent further defamatory posts and demands their removal within 24 hours. He also requests a public video apology from Caprice across all social media platforms. The plaintiff is seeking general damages, aggravated damages, and legal costs. GOF Seizes 33,500 Kg Of Thai Rice Worth RM400,000
IPOH, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The Ulu Kinta General Operations Force (GOF) seized 33,500 kilogrammes (kg) of white Thai rice worth around RM400,000 being smuggled in a trailer lorry in Gerik yesterday. GOF Northern Brigade commander, SAC Shahrum Hashim said a man, 44, was also arrested during the operation between 3.15 pm to 5.45 pm. 'The operation team detained a trailer lorry carrying 670 gunny sacks of white Thai rice, each weighing 50 kg, while it was on its way to a rice warehouse in Perak,' he said in a statement here today.

Six men arrested over armed riot at KL nightclub
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested six men suspected of being involved in an armed riot at a nightclub in the capital on Sunday (Aug 17), which left another man injured. Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the arrests followed a police report lodged by a 29-year-old man at 9.33am on Saturday. The victim claimed he was assaulted by a group of unidentified men while leaving the nightclub, sustaining injuries to his back. "Acting on the information, six suspects aged 25 to 29 were arrested. All are remanded for four days until Aug 21," he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 18), adding that the case was being investigated under Sections 148 and 326 of the Penal Code.
