TM demonstrates commitment to long-term value, nation-building
TM returned approximately RM1.5bil in value, benefiting various stakeholders through dividends and contributions that supported national socioeconomic progress.
TM also prioritised strategic investments in business growth, community development, social impact programmes, and employee development, further generating a multiplier impact on the broader national economy.
These efforts reflect TM's focus on delivering sustainable returns to shareholders while staying true to its core purpose of creating value for all stakeholders as a nation-builder.
'At TM, we see ourselves as facilitators of national progress, driving inclusive digital transformation that empowers enterprises, enriches communities and bolsters economic resilience.
'We are fully aligned with this vision – staying agile, expanding our capabilities and setting new benchmarks in service excellence to ensure that Malaysia remains at the forefront of the digital economy.
'This is what it means to be a world-class organisation,' said TM chairman Datuk Zainal Abidin Putih.
This was reflected at TM's AGM held at Menara TM here, where all 14 resolutions tabled were duly passed by shareholders.
The meeting was chaired by Zainal, with the board of directors and managing director and group chief executive officer Amar Huzaimi Md Deris in attendance.
Beyond profits, TM is committed to driving digital inclusivity for all, including nurturing future-ready talent, empowering communities and expanding inclusive digital access across the country.
For example, TM is expanding its digitalisation efforts and community-building in Pulau Tioman, starting with Kampung Mukut.
Similar programmes are being considered for other islands already connected through TM's submarine cable infrastructure.
TM is also committed to developing schools on these islands, with a focus on nurturing youth through science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and digital exposure.
'Our goal is to build digital ecosystems that empower local communities, helping them shift from traditional livelihoods to sustainable, future-ready opportunities,' said Amar.
These efforts are further supported by the TM Future Skills (TMFS) School programme, where TM has created three 'nucleus' schools designed as regional hubs for innovation via the TMFS Digital Hub.
TM also plans to onboard 25 new schools in 2025.
Meanwhile, Yayasan TM has launched the Yayasan TM technical and vocational education and training (TVET) Madani initiative to enhance the skill sets and employability of TVET graduates, while its education arm, Multimedia University, collaborates with schools nationwide to provide early exposure to STEM subjects through workshops and career guidance.
TM also continues to provide tailored digital solutions to more than 400,000 micro, small and medium enterprises nationwide, helping them grow and thrive in the digital economy.
Under its talent development agenda, TM has contributed RM641mil to date to nurture close to 19,000 talents, many of whom now contribute to the broader digital economy and are part of the leadership in corporate organisations and national institutions.
'This is how we demonstrate that success and achieving a higher purpose can go hand in hand,' said Amar.
Championing sustainability and responsible growth
Sustainability remains core to TM's long-term strategy.
The group's Sustainability Framework, introduced in 2024, is built on two key objectives: enabling sustainable growth for customers and communities and ensuring resilience across the business and value chain.
In its data centre operation, TM sources 50% of its data centre energy from renewable resources and implements water harvesting and recycling systems for water conservation.
TM is also targeting global benchmarks with a planned Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.4 for its expansion projects, with the upcoming Johor facility, developed in collaboration with Singtel's Nxera, targeting even lower PUE.
Technologies such as intelligent cooling systems, solar panels and energy-efficient servers further reduce environmental impact and operational costs, ensuring TM's growth aligns with global sustainability objectives.
TM's commitment to sustainable practices was recognised at multiple awards in 2024, including the Gold Award for its Smart Forestry AI tool under the Environment and Natural Resources Sub-Category: Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in the MTE 2024 SDG International Innovation Awards.
This recognition affirms the group's leadership in sustainability, aligned with Malaysia's environmental goals and net-zero ambitions.
'We believe sustainability is fundamental, not just an afterthought.
'Our goal is to grow responsibly, delivering technology that benefits both the economy and the environment,' said Amar.
Long-term value creation 2024 marked the first full year of implementation of its PWR 2030 strategy, which is the group's roadmap to becoming a Digital Powerhouse by 2030 and positioning Malaysia as the digital hub for Asean.
'This phase is about solidifying our foundation to protect the existing core business to better position us in capitalising on emerging opportunities such as hyperconnected data centres, artificial intelligence and graphics processing unit-as-a-service, which are among the new growth areas for TM,' said Amar.
During the year, TM made significant progress in strengthening its core businesses across business-to-business, business-to-consumer and consumer-to-consumer amidst intensified market competition.
Key milestones include strengthening the convergence proposition and advancing digital solutions such as smart services, cloud, and cybersecurity, as well as enhancing digital infrastructure such as domestic fibre networks, mobile backhaul to support 5G, submarine cable systems and data centres.
These strategic developments reinforce TM's commitment to advancing Malaysia's digital future while uplifting the broader ecosystem, with Warga TM continuing to be the driving force behind the group's growth and success.
As TM continues its journey, the group remains focused on delivering long-term value creation while creating meaningful impact for the nation.
'TM is not merely a provider of technological infrastructure but an essential enabler and catalyst for a vibrant digital ecosystem, connecting Malaysia to the world and the world to Malaysia.
'As we move forward into the next phase of our journey, every initiative we undertake moves us closer to becoming a Digital Powerhouse by 2030, one that drives national progress, fosters innovation and ensures Malaysia remains at the forefront of the global digital economy,' said Amar, concluding his presentation at TM's AGM.

Jangkau Digital TM reimagines Kampung Mukut, Pulau Tioman as Malaysia's first smart eco-village, driving rural digital inclusion and nation-building
KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has identified Kampung Mukut, Pulau Tioman as the first village for its inaugural Jangkau Digital programme, reimagining the small coastal settlement as a Smart Eco-Village that blends digital connectivity, economic empowerment, education and environmental stewardship. The initiative is aligned with the Government's call for organisations to contribute in uplifting rural communities through sustainable and inclusive development. Home to just over 100 residents, Kampung Mukut is renowned for its crystal-clear waters, lush rainforests, serene waterfall and the towering Dragon Horns of Tioman. Its remoteness has also meant limited access to connectivity and public infrastructure, challenges that Jangkau Digital seeks to address while preserving the village's unique culture and biodiversity. The programme in Mukut was officially launched by Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, during his recent visit to the village. Amar explaining TM's key community and sustainability initiatives in Kampung Mukut as part of the Jangkau Digital TM programme to Al-Sultan Abdullah. TM's managing director and group chief executive officer Amar Huzaimi Md Deris said, 'Jangkau Digital TM is about building the right foundations for communities to thrive, from expanding digital access, to unlocking new economic opportunities, nurturing future-ready talent and safeguarding the environment. 'It reflects our role as a nation builder, ensuring that even the most remote communities are part of Malaysia's digital future. 'In Mukut, we are working closely with the community and the Tioman Development Authority as our strategic partner to demonstrate that rural and island villages can progress sustainably, while preserving the heritage and natural beauty that make them unique.' The transformation begins with robust digital infrastructure across Pulau Tioman. The 75km submarine cable from Kuala Rompin that was deployed by TM, forms the backbone that connects the entire island to Malaysia's national digital network, effectively bringing the world to Tioman and Tioman to the world. This is followed by the rollout of high-speed fibre broadband and expanded mobile coverage that now reaches all key settlements and tourism hotspots. This upgrade ensures that residents, businesses and visitors across Tioman enjoy stable, high-quality internet access, a critical enabler for economic activity, education and tourism. In Kampung Mukut, this connectivity has been further strengthened with the installation of outdoor WiFi spanning the village from the jetty and school to the mosque, eateries, homestays, and along scenic trails, enabling tourists to navigate, locals to run online businesses and students to participate in virtual learning without interruption. Complementing this, TM's Vision AI CCTV systems have also been deployed at strategic points to improve public safety, manage visitor flows and support responsible tourism in line with Mukut's ecotourism appeal. With strong digital connectivity as the foundation, entrepreneurs in Mukut are now better positioned to tap into the digital economy. Tourism operators, guesthouses, and boat service providers have been onboarded to – a community-managed tourism portal powered by TM and enhanced with AI to deliver an end-to-end experience, from discovering Mukut's natural beauty to booking and engaging with local operators. This is integrated with the Unifi Business Go Bookit app for seamless visitor experiences. This transition to online visibility is strengthening business resilience, particularly for operators who once depended solely on walk-in visitors. To support this shift, TM will conduct targeted training sessions to equip local MSMEs with skills in booking management, social media promotion and digital content creation, with additional support extended to B40 entrepreneurs via the Sejahtera Madani programme. By building these capabilities, TM aims to ensure that the economic benefits of tourism are shared more broadly across the community, while positioning Mukut as a destination that is digitally accessible. The Jangkau Digital TM also brings the TM Future Skills (TMFS) to SK Mukut as the Champion School. SK Mukut is now linked to SMK Tekek, Tioman's 'nucleus' digital hub school, enabling resource-sharing and access to advanced digital tools. Through this collaboration, students are exposed to coding, robotics, 3D printing and AI learning modules – subjects that previously seemed out of reach in rural settings. Teachers in Mukut also benefit from training programmes that help them integrate STEM content into lessons and maximise the use of digital tools. Beyond the classroom, TM is investing in capability building for the community's core sporting tradition - sailing. Efforts include upgrading essential infrastructure such as dedicated walkway and slipway to provide safe and convenient access to the waterfront. The Group also goes the extra mile by providing a comprehensive coach training and talent development programme and providing official sports attire for the school's sailing team. These initiatives are designed to inspire the students, enhance competitive readiness, and cultivate a new generation of talent capable of competing at the highest levels. This integrated approach ensures that Mukut's youth can excel both in academics and in sports, proving that rural communities can nurture future champions on multiple fronts. In preserving Mukut's charm, TM is embedding environmental stewardship into every aspect of development. The village's coral reefs, rainforest trails, and marine biodiversity are recognised as irreplaceable assets and planned coral protection and trail conservation programmes will ensure these remain intact for future generations. TM's sustainability commitment extends to the seabed where the presence of submarine cables naturally fosters the formation of artificial reefs, providing vital habitats for marine life and cultivating a long-term biodiversity ecosystem. To further support eco-tourism safety, TM is enhancing measures to ensure the safety of both tour guides and hikers on treks to the Dragon Horns including providing GPS trackers and other digital solutions, helping Mukut maintain its reputation as a safe, well-managed destination for adventure tourism. By combining digital technology with environmental care, Jangkau Digital TM reinforces the idea that progress in rural communities can go hand in hand with sustainability.

TM's Q2 profit seen rising on cost savings despite weaker revenue
KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd's (TM) core net profit for the second quarter of 2025 (2Q25) is expected to grow between four and nine per cent, despite a possible revenue decline of up to four per cent, CIMB Securities said. The research house attributed the earnings growth to cost control measures, savings on net interest expenses and a normalisation of effective tax rates, which would offset softer revenue. "This could result in first-half 2025 (1H25) core net profit easing four to six per cent to about 48–49 per cent of our full-year forecast," it said in a note. "We deem this largely in line with expectations, as we project the second half to be sequentially stronger, in line with seasonally higher revenue from TM Global and TM One. "Despite potentially lower core net profit, we believe TM would sustain a 1H25 dividend per share at 12.5 sen," it added. CIMB Securities expects the modest revenue drop to be driven by persistent stiff competition in the fibre broadband market and prolonged weakness in TM One's performance. "From our market observations, fibre broadband competition has stayed intense, with no let-up in rebates and promotions. "We expect Unifi subscribers to continue growing only mildly quarter-on-quarter, while average revenue per user could decline a further one to three per cent as TM matches competitors' aggressive offers," it said. Excluding voluntary separation scheme charges in 2Q24, CIMB estimates TM's total operating costs to fall one to five per cent year-on-year in 2Q25. It said lower Unifi subscriber acquisition costs, reduced staff expenses from a smaller headcount and lower other operating expenses should more than offset higher 5G access costs. TM is scheduled to release its 2Q25 results on Aug 29.
