Kullu, Mandi continue to be worst affected due to monsoon

Shimla: Mandi and Kullu districts continue to be the worst affected due to incessant rains and the monsoon disaster, which has resulted in a cumulative loss of Rs 1,988 crore in Himachal Pradesh to date.
As many as 362 roads, including 220 in Mandi, were closed for vehicular traffic on Saturday evening across Himachal Pradesh. All the national highways, including Chandigarh-Manali highway, were open for traffic by Saturday evening. A total of 613 power distribution transformers, including a maximum of 393 in Kullu, and 520 water supply schemes, including 367 in Kullu, are affected across the state, as per the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).
As many as 112 deaths in the hill state were attributed to monsoon-related incidents, and 37 persons remain missing from the start of the monsoon on June 20 until Aug 9. The Himalayan state witnessed as many as 58 flash floods, 30 cloudbursts, and 53 major landslides during this monsoon period.
The weather department issued a yellow alert for heavy rain on Aug 10 and 11 in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Solan districts.

However, an orange alert was issued for Mandi and Kangra districts for very heavy rainfall on Aug 11.
Sirmaur district received a maximum of 43.7 mm of rainfall on Saturday, followed by 40.7 mm in Solan, 32.4 mm in Bilaspur, 26.2 mm in Mandi, 25.6 mm in Shimla, and 10.1 mm in Kullu district.
Chamba Accident
A Bolero vehicle on Friday night veered off the road and fell into Ravi river in Bharmaur of Chamba district, resulting in the on-the-spot death of its driver, Sunil Kumar (35). The accident happened on Chamba-Holi road near Jyura Mata Mandir when the vehicle rolled down 200 meters into the ditch before entering the river. It took five hours for the police team and the locals to retrieve the driver's body from the river.

Shimla, Aug 10 (PTI) The MeT office on Sunday issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh for four days, from Monday to Thursday. According to the MeT Centre in Shimla, light to moderate rainfall continued to lash parts of the state. Kangra received 68.4 mm of rain since Saturday night, followed by Murari Devi (52.6 mm), Palampur (52 mm), Sarahan (25 mm), Jubbarhatti (17 mm), Dharamshala (16.8 mm), Pandoh and Bajura (11.5 mm each), Kufri (11.2 mm), Bilaspur (10.4 mm), and Kasauli (10 mm). A total of 360 roads, including the Aut-Sainj road, part of NH-305, were closed for vehicular traffic. Of these, 214 were blocked in Mandi district and 92 in the adjoining Kullu district on Sunday, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). So far, 112 people have died in rain-related incidents this monsoon, while 37 remain missing. In addition, 145 power transformers and 520 water supply schemes have been affected, the SEOC said. Since the onset of the monsoon on June 20, Himachal Pradesh has reported losses amounting to Rs 1,988 crore. The state has witnessed 58 flash floods, 30 cloudbursts, and 53 major landslides so far. During the ongoing monsoon season, the state has received 507.3 mm of rainfall against a normal of 445.5 mm — an excess of 11 per cent from June 1 to August 10, the MeT office said. A flash flood warning has been issued for parts of southeast Wisconsin on August 9 and August 10, 2025, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The latest flood warning for southern Washington County and southern Ozaukee County is in place till 5:30 AM as the heavy rain slowly drifts north. A separate warning is also in effect till 5 AM for Eastern Waukesha County and Milwaukee County. The NWS updated this warning to "considerable," due to the impact the heavy rain and flooding are already having on the area. People have been advised not to drive on roads that seem to be flooded. Most deaths due to floods occur in vehicles. In some areas across the metro, rainfall in the past 24 hours has surpassed 6 inches. The weather service has issued a weather alert in Chicago signalling thunderstorm risk and torrential rainfall. "A landslide at Jhed (Khanag) has blocked National Highway-305, with light motor vehicles being diverted via Kandugad." Kullu also reported the highest number of power outages, with 50 DTRs disrupted, while Mandi recorded the "largest hit" to water supply infrastructure, with 367 schemes affected. Authorities have advised residents to "remain alert" as fresh spells of heavy rainfall are expected in several districts over the next 48 hours.
