The incident occurred around 10.30 am during a congregation that drew thousands of devotees, many of whom arrived for Mishra's Kanwar Yatra, scheduled for August 6. Mishra also organises rudraksha distribution events—rituals that previously drew large crowds and caused traffic chaos in the region.
Thousands of devotees from across the country gathered on Tuesday at the Seewan River ghat and Kubreshwar Dham for pre-yatra rituals, including bhandaras, overnight stays, and temple visits.
As the crowd swelled and humidity levels rose, several people reportedly fell ill due to suffocation, panic, and lack of space.
Sources said the heavy crowd triggered chaos near the temple complex and rest spots, with several devotees fainting due to heat and overcrowding. In one instance, three people reportedly fell during a sudden crowd surge, and two were crushed in the melee, resulting in their deaths.
'Two women have died, and around half a dozen people sustained injuries.
The situation is now under control. More than 200 personnel were deployed, and we have increased the deployment further. Traffic diversions, which were planned for August 6, have already been implemented. Currently, there is a crowd of around 60,000, and the influx is ongoing. A large number of women devotees are present,' SP Sehore Deepak Shukla told TOI.

Their exact identities are being verified. As of now, there is no change in the scheduled Yatra for August 6,' he added.
'As soon as we received the information, officials rushed to the spot. The crowd was dispersed, and the situation was brought under control,' said Shukla.
Kubreshwar Dham has witnessed rising footfall in recent years, particularly during rudraksha distribution and yatra events led by Pradeep Mishra, often leading to significant traffic disruptions and logistical challenges in Sehore and adjoining areas. In June 2023, a woman collapsed at the site due to heat and humidity, and in March last year, a tent collapse left several injured, according to sources.

"The friend who accompanied Shokeen to Gurgaon but survived the attack told us that Nandal, who lives abroad, had asked him to collect the loaned money from his aides here. Fazilpuria, however, consistently denied any loan arrangements and said that only music labels invested in his career. Cops had briefly detained a food delivery executive who witnessed the murder but was not linked to the shooting. The police officer said they have not found any evidence that indicates the involvement of Shokeen's friend who survived the attack in the murder plan. "We are investigating all possible angles and theories," the officer said.

Man leaves property to caregiver's granddaughter
Ahmedabad: When 89-year-old Gustad Borjorji Engineer passed away in Feb 2014, he left behind a flat for his caregiver's granddaughter by writing a will. A city civil court last week granted probate of that will, bestowing the deceased's property to the person who was not blood-related to him. Engineer, who was previously engaged with Tata Industries, wrote a will a month before he passed away on Feb 22, 2014. He had no legal heir – son or daughter. His wife passed away in 2001. The 159-square yard flat in Shahibaug, where he was living, was to be given to Amisha Makwana, who was just 13 years of age then. Makwana's grandmother gave her services as a caregiver for the Engineer family offering her culinary services. From a very young age, the girl would accompany her grandmother to the Parsi family's house. Engineer developed a bond with the child and took responsibility for her education. In 2023, Makwana approached the city civil court through advocate Adil Saiyed for probate of the will and submitted that she was "residing with Engineer and taking his care till his death and residing with him as his daughter and family member. Hence, out of love and affection, deceased - Gustad Borjorji Engineer bequeathed her property mentioned in the Schedule to the applicant by executing a Will dated 12-01-2014". A public notice was issued inviting objections before the court granted probate of the will. There was no objection from anybody. Engineer's brother too gave a No Objection Certificate in Makwana's favour. The court on Aug 2 ordered a probate in her favour and issued a succession certificate. Makwana, who now works in the human resources department in a private company, affectionately recalls her bond with Engineer. "I used to call him Tai. We had a special bond. He wanted to take care of me. He was like my mother and father both. Till I was 13, he was a protective shield for me," she told TOI. She further said, "He wanted to adopt me, but did not considering my interest only. He was a Parsi, and he did not want my faith or identity to be changed. He was aware that adoption would only distance me from my biological parents. He always wished that I got compassion from both the families."

Cops hunt down those behind casteist posts
Madurai: It has been barely ten days since C Kavin Selva Ganesh was hacked to death in a caste murder in Tirunelveli, but a simple search online will throw up anonymous social media posts with casteist undertones in Tamil supporting the accused Surjith. If outfits promoting their caste's history/culture used to be within closed communities before, it has now taken another form in the digital space. It is in this context that south zone police, through cyber crime police and social media cell, have intensified crackdown on those sharing, promoting casteist content and making such provocative comments on social media platforms. Prem Anand Sinha, inspector general of police (IG), south zone, told TOI that they have arrested 136 people this year across the zone who were involved in posting objectionable casteist and communal content on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). "The social media cell is monitoring the content on social media by links that get circulated and gain traction, and searching for hashtags and initiating action," he said. Objectionable casteist content can include anything from hate speech against a particular caste or community to displaying weapons or making certain gestures to showcase the 'pride' of a particular caste, the IG said. According to official data, a total of 119 cases have been registered in 2025 across 10 southern districts, including Tirunelveli city, for objectionable casteist/communal posts on social media platforms. A vast majority of 79 cases were registered just in Tirunelveli district limits alone. It was a sizable increase compared to last year when only 33 cases were booked in the district. "Once we find objectionable casteist content, we can take steps to deactivate/block the account by making a request to the particular social media platform. Steps are also taken to delete/remove any inappropriate videos with casteist content," added Sinha. The cases are generally registered under sections 147, 352, and 353 of BNS, for promoting enmity between different groups, intentional insult, and statements conducing to public mischief. Activists meanwhile called for creating more awareness and sensitization among youths, particularly at school and college levels. "Caste violence is alarmingly being perpetrated by more youngsters than those of older age groups, particularly in districts like Tirunelveli. The need of the hour is a comprehensive caste sensitisation programme," said R Murali, state president, People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Tamil Nadu. Around 10 students in each college of different castes can be picked as ambassadors and activities such as debates, watching documentary screenings, book readings can be organised regularly to promote harmony and give them exposure to different perspectives, he said.
