When it comes to building a winning culture, Michigan State is leaning into legacy. Over the weekend, the Spartans added two more pieces to their 2026 recruiting puzzle—both with NFL pedigree.
TJ Umenyiora, a defensive back from Georgia and the son of two-time Super Bowl champion Osi Umenyiora, announced his commitment on Saturday, just one day after offensive lineman Quinn Buckey, the son of former NFL player Jeff Buckey, pledged his future to East Lansing. These back-to-back additions mark a pivotal moment in a red-hot June for the Spartans, who now have 13 players locked into their 2026 class.

loaded with talent and momentum
On Saturday, June 14, TJ Umenyiora revealed his college decision through a social media post, becoming the latest name to join
Michigan State
's 2026 recruiting class.
A 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back out of Blessed Trinity Catholic in Roswell, Georgia, Umenyiora is currently rated as one of the top 100 cornerbacks in his class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. His decision follows a busy recruitment cycle that included official visits to Auburn, Mississippi State, and Northwestern, as well as a trip to Michigan State earlier in the month.
Umenyiora's father, Osi, carved out an 11-year NFL career after being drafted in the second round by the New York Giants in 2003.
He earned two Super Bowl rings and multiple All-Pro honors. Now, it's his son's turn to step into the spotlight. "This is just the beginning," TJ posted in his announcement, referencing his own journey.
Just 24 hours earlier, on Friday, June 13, three-star offensive lineman Quinn Buckey from California also made his pledge to Michigan State public. Buckey is the son of Jeff Buckey, who spent four seasons in the NFL as an offensive lineman.
The younger Buckey brings grit to the offensive front and adds balance to a class that continues to take shape on both sides of the ball.

The Spartans' 2026 recruiting class now includes 13 players, with nine of those commitments coming in June alone. Leading the way in Michigan State's 2026 class are two standout four-star recruits—quarterback Kayd Coffman and offensive lineman Collin Campbell. With the addition of TJ Umenyiora, the Spartans now have four defensive backs committed on that side of the ball, joining KJ Deriso, Brayden Thomas, and Eliyjah Caldwell-Hardy in the secondary.
This recent momentum shows that Michigan State isn't just focused on athletic potential—it's banking on lineage, leadership, and legacy. With names like Umenyiora and Buckey on board, it's clear that pedigree still matters in the college football arms race.
When the sons of NFL veterans choose your program, it says something about trust, tradition, and future potential. Michigan State may be building for 2026, but the foundation is already taking shape this summer. And if June is any indication, the Spartans are just getting started.

Tom Brady set to return to New England for ultimate honor; Patriots make big announcement
Tom Brady's commitment towards the New England Patriots and the sport is set to be etched in stone on August 8 when, TMZ states ,the long-awaited bronze statue of the former NFL player is set to be unveiled at Gillette Stadium. The project was announced by Patriots' owner Robert Kraft last year on the day of the 47-year-old's retirement and is meant to cherish his legacy of playing 20 seasons and winning six Super Bowls with the team. The unveiling is scheduled for the same day as that of a Pats and Washington Commanders preseason game. The announcement came during the Hall of Fame ceremony last year. On the sidelines, reports of Brady considering a possible return to the field have also been circulating. After leaving the Patriots, he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019 and broke his brief retirement spell in the 2022 season. Also Read: Who is Dave Portnoy? Barstool Sports founder reveals why he voted for Trump An insider, according to The Daily Mail, claims that Brady now has his eyes set on securing a Gold Medal for Team USA at the 2028 LA Olympics. 'He wants a Gold medal. And what better way to remain the GOAT and return to the sport he loves, than by helping his country win gold. He knows he would be able to help and excel in that environment and since his life is very much scheduled and has a tight regimen, so many things could fall into place for him around that time. With the Olympics being in LA, he wouldn't have to travel far. And it would culminate in one of the best birthdays ever,' an insider revealed to The Daily Mail. This win would be a way for the football player (then 50 years old) to prove he's the best in the game and demonstrate his commitment to the sport. NFL owners passed a vote on Tuesday (June 10) which allowed their players to compete in the Olympics three years later.

Bill Belichick under fire at UNC — and it has nothing to do with football
Photo byWhen Bill Belichick agreed to coach at the University of North Carolina, it wasn't supposed to be like this. The six-time Super Bowl champ wasn't brought in for buzz—he was brought in to win football games. But before a single down has been played, the biggest story in Chapel Hill isn't Belichick's playbook. It's his personal life. Specifically, his relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson. And in true Belichick fashion, he's saying little while the noise around him gets louder. Bill Belichick's UNC football tenure sparks controversy as relationship with Jordon Hudson, leaked emails, and internal drama take center stage before kickoff The attention started to shift during a CBS interview when Hudson interrupted Bill Belichick mid-segment. It was a quick moment, but enough to set the internet on fire. Speculation grew fast—was she just visiting, or involved in more than just the coach's personal life? From there, things snowballed. Reports started surfacing that Hudson had been playing a behind-the-scenes role with the team. Then came an explosive claim from sports journalist Pablo Torre. In a recent report, Torre said nine internal sources told him Hudson had essentially been barred from the program. That took the story from tabloid gossip to an internal controversy. Belichick pushed back on The Pivot podcast, saying Hudson has 'only been involved on the business side' and has nothing to do with UNC football operations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo But the questions didn't stop. On the administrative side, UNC's General Manager Michael Lombardi came out swinging. Speaking in Chapel Hill earlier this week, he said, 'My job is to focus on North Carolina football, and Bill's job is to focus on North Carolina football. That's what we've done.' He didn't just brush it off—he called some of the reporting 'completely fabricated,' specifically mentioning the idea that Belichick was planning to skip out on the season or had negotiated a $1 million buyout. Lombardi's frustration boiled over after ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio criticized the university for not addressing the situation more directly. Lombardi fired back, accusing the media of fueling drama without facts. Meanwhile, Hudson hasn't said much, but she's made her feelings clear. On social media, she reposted a comment accusing the press of being fixated on Belichick's private life. Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson controversy casts shadow over UNC football season With games against Clemson and TCU on the horizon, the football part of Belichick's UNC journey is about to begin. But if he wants the headlines to shift from his personal life back to his sideline decisions, winning might be the only answer. Until then, the spotlight isn't going anywhere.
