Liverpool target Newcastle's Isak in £120m transfer move
The Reds have yet to submit an official offer, but the Swedish forward is a top target as manager Arne Slot looks to bolster his attacking options following Diogo Jota's departure.
Isak, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for £63 million in 2022, has been instrumental in the club's recent success. Last season, he netted 23 Premier League goals, helping secure Champions League qualification for the second time in three years. His standout performances include scoring in Newcastle's League Cup final win over Liverpool, ending a 70-year trophy drought for the club.
The 25-year-old is currently with Newcastle in Austria for pre-season training and has three years left on his contract. Reports suggest the Magpies are pushing to extend his deal while slapping a £150 million price tag to deter potential buyers. Arsenal are also rumoured to be monitoring the situation.
Newcastle's financial backing from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund strengthens their position in negotiations, with Isak reportedly content at St James' Park. Meanwhile, Liverpool could face further attacking reshuffles, with Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa linked with exits.

Sweden cuts 2025 growth forecast to 0.7 pct amid export weakness
HELSINKI, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Swedish National Institute of Economic Research (NIER) on Wednesday revised its 2025 growth forecast for the Swedish economy downward, from 0.9 percent to 0.7 percent. In a statement, NIER cited continued global economic weakness and uncertainty surrounding U.S. trade policy as key factors dampening Sweden's economic prospects. Alongside the subdued global cycle, U.S. tariffs are expected to constrain Swedish export growth this year and next, the agency noted. NIER emphasized the increasing importance of domestic demand in driving Sweden's economic recovery. According to Statistics Sweden, the country's GDP grew by a modest 0.1 percent in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the previous quarter, largely due to restrained household spending. Looking ahead, NIER expects lower interest rates and rising real incomes to gradually boost private consumption and support an economic rebound later in the year. The Swedish central bank, Riksbank, lowered its policy rate to 3 percent in June and is projected to cut it further to 1.75 percent in September, NIER said during a press conference. NIER operates under the Ministry of Finance and is responsible for providing independent economic analyses and forecasts for both the Swedish and global economies.

Soccer-Milan sign Swiss midfielder Jashari from Club Brugge
(Reuters) -AC Milan have signed Switzerland midfielder Ardon Jashari from Belgium's Club Brugge on a contract until June 2030, the Serie A club said on Wednesday. Financial details were not disclosed, but Italian media reported Milan paid around 34 million euros ($39.6 million) for the 23-year-old, plus three million in bonuses. Jashari joined Brugge from Swiss side Luzern in 2024 and made 52 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals. The defensive midfielder, who has played four times for his country, helped Brugge reach the Champions League last 16 this year.
