George Hirst scores and Che Adams bags hat-trick as Scotland beat Liechtenstein

Ipswich striker Hirst put Scotland three ahead in the Vaduz friendly early in the second half with a close-range finish on his fourth cap.
Che Adams was on target twice in the first half after only scoring once in his previous 19 internationals and the Torino forward headed home with the last action of the game.
It was a night of firsts for Scotland with Ross Doohan, Doig, Andy Irving, Connor Barron and Kieron Bowie making their debuts and Lennon Miller making an impressive first start with a hand in two goals.

Doohan flew in from a family holiday in Turkey after being handed his first call-up in the wake of injuries to Angus Gunn and Robby McCrorie, and Cieran Slicker's difficult debut in Friday's 3-1 defeat by Iceland.
The outgoing Aberdeen goalkeeper probably had the quietest game of his career, not needing to make a save and barely touching the ball in the second half.
With Scott McTominay and Kieran Tierney injured, 18-year-old Motherwell midfielder Miller and Adams came in as Steve Clarke lined up with a 4-4-2 formation. Anthony Ralston, Jack Hendry and Scott McKenna came into defence as Clarke made six changes.
Scotland laboured to narrow wins over Liechtenstein in their only two previous meetings in the Euro 2012 qualifiers, but there was little doubt about the winner of this encounter from the fourth minute when Adams opened the scoring.

Miller's volley was blocked following a corner and the Torino striker hit the rebound into the roof of the net.
Lewis Ferguson missed a decent chance before Adams doubled his tally in the 26th minute. Miller was again involved, winning possession as the home side tried to pass the ball out from the back and setting up Adams to wrong-foot the goalkeeper.
John McGinn had a shot well-saved after Miller's pass inside the full-back and Doohan almost got his first taste of meaningful action when home wing-back Kenny Kindle was allowed to run a long way with the ball and get a shot away. His effort just cleared the top corner.
The 1600 away fans were entertained by a Swiss-based pipe band at half-time and they were cheering again within three minutes of the restart.

McGinn struck the post from 20 yards before Adams flicked on Ralston's cross for Hirst to convert at the back post.
Sassuolo left-back Doig and West Ham midfielder Irving were brought on for debuts just before the hour mark.
Doig got down the left wing to good effect and forced a save before Hibernian striker Bowie and Rangers midfielder Barron entered the fray.
Scotland continued to play in the opposition half and Adams headed home substitute Tommy Conway's near-post cross immediately before the full-time whistle.

Motherwell sell teenage midfielder Lennon Miller to Udinese in club record deal

Udinese have completed the signing of teenage midfielder Lennon Miller from Motherwell in a deal worth £4.5m. The fee is a club record for the Steelmen. The 18-year-old, who came through Motherwell's youth system, is considered as one of Scottish football's most talented players. Miller has made 76 appearances for Motherwell since making his debut just days after his 16th birthday and has already played twice for Scotland. He has long been linked with a move on from Motherwell and now becomes the latest in a growing group of Scots playing in Italy's top flight. Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour were part of Napoli's Scudetto-winning side last season, while Che Adams, Josh Doig and Lewis Ferguson all play in the league. Udinese teased Miller's signing on social media with a picture of the Loch Ness Monster before confirming his move on a five-year contract. — Udinese Calcio (@Udinese_1896) August 12, 2025 Both clubs then confirmed the deal, with Motherwell sharing a video with the player saying goodbye to the club where he has made his name. 'Motherwell is all I've ever known,' Miller said in a statement announcing the move. 'It's been my home since I was a young boy, and I've achieved my dream of playing in the first-team, playing in the big stadiums and wearing the armband. 'My thanks goes to all the supporters for taking me in. The support up and down the country every week has been exceptional. For all the coaches I've worked under and who have helped me improve as a player and as a man, thank you. I simply wouldn't be here without their guidance and support. 'To all the players who I've played alongside with, and for all the kind words they've said about me, thank you. My teammates have helped me through everything and allowed me to play with freedom. 'I want to also express my appreciation to all the staff behind the scenes at the club. Some are still there, some have moved on, but they all work so hard to keep the place going. You may not see first-hand the hard work and sacrifices they make, but having been in the building all these years, I can't thank them enough for everything they do. 'This is a new chapter in my life, and I move on filled with excitement. I may not be at Fir Park to cheer on the boys, but I'll be watching and following from afar. The club has a big place in my heart, and I will always be grateful. I wish all the lads the best for the rest of the season.' Miller said: "I have spent most of my life here watching first-team games and to finally be a part of that was something special. 'They were moments I'll never forget. 'I came here as a young boy and watched. The goal was to play here in front of the fans. 'All I've ever known is Motherwell and for it all to change so quickly will be difficult - but I'm looking forward to it. 'Everybody has been great at the club. 'I came in as a young boy and the fans took to me straight away and gave me the backing I needed to find my confidence and thrive at the club." Miller, 18, had been linked with moves to both Celtic and Rangers as well as other teams abroad - including French outfit Strasbourg, who have a strategic link with Premier League giants Chelsea. He is also understood to have knocked back Ipswich Town, who were one of several English clubs to have directly kept tabs on him. The son of former Aberdeen, Dundee United and Falkirk striker Lee Miller, midfielder Lennon broke into the Motherwell first team during the 2022/23 campaign. And the following season he enjoyed a truly breakout year, playing 32 times and scoring twice for the Fir Park side as a teenager. He had been in the youth system of the Lanarkshire club since he was seven. Miller was called up to the senior Scotland squad for the first time in March of this year and then made his full debut in June against Iceland. He now becomes the sixth active Scots player in Serie A (with a seventh, Liam Henderson, having just signed for Sampdoria in Serie B). Udinese have paid Motherwell a fee in the region of £4.5million for his services. The Serie A club posted on X, saying: "One of the brightest young talents in European football joins Udinese. "A modern midfielder, capable of combining technique, vision, and character, he arrives from Motherwell FC with a five-year contract." Kosta Runjaić's men finished 12th in the league last season, the Austrian's first as head coach. Udinese already have former Celtic striker Vakoun Bayo on their books, having signed him from Watford last summer. He was sent back on loan to Vicarage Road for the duration 2024/25 season however, scoring ten goals in 41 Championship appearances. But without doubt the most high-profile name amongst the squad is ex-Arsenal and Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez. The young midfielder has completed his move to Italy Lennon Miller has sealed his move to Serie A side Udinese in a record deal believed to be worth around £5m to Motherwell. ‌ The deal until 2030 eclipses the £3.25m received from Celtic for David Turnbull in October 2020. ‌ Scotland cap Miller and his entire family flew out to Italy yesterday, and celebrated step-mum Maria's birthday today, while the midfielder underwent his medical. ‌ Speaking to the club website about his exit, 18-year-old Wishaw ace Miller admitted the Steelmen will hold a special place in his heart, but he is looking forward to a new chapter in his young career. He said: 'Motherwell is all I've ever known. 'It's been my home since I was a young boy, and I've achieved my dream of playing in the first-team, playing in the big stadiums and wearing the armband. Chief Executive Brian Caldwell added: 'The time was right for all parties for Lennon to make the next move in his career,' ‌ 'He is an example of the pathway and model that exists at Motherwell and is a huge success story for everyone associated with the club. 'The sell-on included ensures we will be compensated should Lennon go on to a fruitful career beyond this move, something that was crucial for us. 'My thanks go to Lennon for his professionalism throughout this lengthy process, and I hope he goes on to have a successful and healthy career in the game.' The former Coltness High School pupil last played for Motherwell in a 1-1 draw at Ross County on May 18 to end season 2024-25, having picked up a knock in a pre-season friendly against Carlisle United on July 8, missing the whole of the Premier Sports Cup group stages. He scored four goals last term. He joins fellow Scots Lewis Ferguson, Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour in making the move to Italy.
