George Hirst scores and Che Adams bags hat-trick as Scotland beat Liechtenstein

Ipswich striker Hirst put Scotland three ahead in the Vaduz friendly early in the second half with a close-range finish on his fourth cap.
Che Adams was on target twice in the first half after only scoring once in his previous 19 internationals and the Torino forward headed home with the last action of the game.
It was a night of firsts for Scotland with Ross Doohan, Doig, Andy Irving, Connor Barron and Kieron Bowie making their debuts and Lennon Miller making an impressive first start with a hand in two goals.

Doohan flew in from a family holiday in Turkey after being handed his first call-up in the wake of injuries to Angus Gunn and Robby McCrorie, and Cieran Slicker's difficult debut in Friday's 3-1 defeat by Iceland.
The outgoing Aberdeen goalkeeper probably had the quietest game of his career, not needing to make a save and barely touching the ball in the second half.
With Scott McTominay and Kieran Tierney injured, 18-year-old Motherwell midfielder Miller and Adams came in as Steve Clarke lined up with a 4-4-2 formation. Anthony Ralston, Jack Hendry and Scott McKenna came into defence as Clarke made six changes.
Scotland laboured to narrow wins over Liechtenstein in their only two previous meetings in the Euro 2012 qualifiers, but there was little doubt about the winner of this encounter from the fourth minute when Adams opened the scoring.

Miller's volley was blocked following a corner and the Torino striker hit the rebound into the roof of the net.
Lewis Ferguson missed a decent chance before Adams doubled his tally in the 26th minute. Miller was again involved, winning possession as the home side tried to pass the ball out from the back and setting up Adams to wrong-foot the goalkeeper.
John McGinn had a shot well-saved after Miller's pass inside the full-back and Doohan almost got his first taste of meaningful action when home wing-back Kenny Kindle was allowed to run a long way with the ball and get a shot away. His effort just cleared the top corner.
The 1600 away fans were entertained by a Swiss-based pipe band at half-time and they were cheering again within three minutes of the restart.

McGinn struck the post from 20 yards before Adams flicked on Ralston's cross for Hirst to convert at the back post.
Sassuolo left-back Doig and West Ham midfielder Irving were brought on for debuts just before the hour mark.
Doig got down the left wing to good effect and forced a save before Hibernian striker Bowie and Rangers midfielder Barron entered the fray.
Scotland continued to play in the opposition half and Adams headed home substitute Tommy Conway's near-post cross immediately before the full-time whistle.

The FOURTEEN ex-Celtic players looking for a new club – including Barcelona conqueror and Europa League winner

They're also in the process of losing another Scotland international under freedom of contract with Greg Taylor jumping ship to PAOK Salonika in Greece. Sign up for the Celtic newsletter Sign up 5 Kieran Tierney is back at Celtic in a stunning move Credit: PA:Press Association 5 Meanwhile, Greg Taylor is on his way out Credit: Kenny Ramsay It's generally been a matter of pride in the East End of Glasgow not to let your top talent walk out of the building for free. James McCarthy, one of the strangest Hoops signings in recent memory, will do precisely that this summer as his four year stay at the club comes to an end. But there's plenty of ex-Hoops stars available right now under freedom of contract, including one at least one more potential recruit in the form of Jeffrey Schlupp. But there's plenty of EX-Hoops stars on the lookout for new clubs this summer - and here's SunSport's at-a-glance guide. Dedryck Boyata Now 34, the big Belgian defender has been without a club for six months since leaving Club Brugge but has been strutting his stuff out in The Soccer Tournament 7-a-sides out in the US. Sold on the club by Ronny Deila, Boyata had his fare share of fallouts with Brendan Rodgers before he eventually left on a free transfer to join Hertha Berlin. Jason Denayer Another Belgian centre half who came in on the Boyata route from Manchester City, Hoops loanee Denayer was named the PFA Scotland young player of the year during his time in Glasgow. Still only 27, he's on the look out for a new club this summer having spent the last three seasons in the Gulf, first at Dubai-based Shabab Al Ahli then at Saudi Pro league outfit Al Fateh. Stuart Armstrong Scotland international Armstrong was a quality operator after joining the Hoops from Dundee Utd in 2015. Celtic Title Party Aftermath: Nine arrested as street party descends into total chaos He recently enjoyed a short stint with old team-mate Ryan Gauld in Vancouver before returning to the UK in January when he signed for Sheffield Wednesday on a deal until the end of the season - which has now ended. Gary Hooper The Englishman scored a barrel load of goals in Glasgow after joining from Scunthorpe United in 2010. He's played for 10 clubs since completing his Hoops exit three years later - including stints in New Zealand, India, Cyprus and Dubai - but where will the 37-year-old head next after recently leaving Maldon & Tiptree? Fraser Forster Celtic have been blessed with some great goalkeepers over the last two decades - and Forster could be the best of the lot. He's now set to make a big decision on his future in football after leaving Tottenham Hotspur following the end of his contract - weeks after being part of Ange Postecoglou's Europa League winning side. Nat Philllips The centre-back was given a baptism of fire at Ibrox just weeks after moving to Glasgow, then he made his Champions League debut at Parkhead a month later. Now he's set to embark on a new chapter of his career after finally cutting ties with Liverpool following six loan spells away from Anfield. 5 Victor Wanyama He returned to Scotland in a move that rocked Scottish football when he joined Dunfermline in March - linking up with his old boss Neil Lennon until the end of the season. His short-term deal has come to an end, so he's set to be a free agent. That's if Lennon fails to tie him down on fresh terms in the coming weeks... Tony Watt He will always be remembered for that famous goal against Barcelona in 2012. Since leaving Celtic two years later, the Scottish striker has played for FIVE SPFL clubs - Hearts, St Johnstone, Motherwell, Dundee and St Mirren. And he's set to be on the move again after coming to the end of his contract at Tannadice. Christopher Jullien 5 Jullien playing for Celtic in 2019 Credit: Kenny Ramsay - The Sun Glasgow Celtic spent £7million to bring the Frenchman to Glasgow in 2019 and he scored some big goals - both in Europe and against Rangers. A horror knee injury curtailed his time in Scotland, though, and he left in 2022 to join Montpellier - where he is now coming to the end of his contract. Jonjoe Kenny The former Celtoc loanee didn't cover himself in glory in Scotland - but the same can't be said for him in Germany. The right-back was a fan favourite at Herta Berlin but his time in the German capital is over after three years - and he's been linked with a move to AEK Athens, similar to out-of-contract Celtic left-back Taylor. Daniel Arzani The forgotten winger was back in the news in Scotland this month after going under the radar ever since his loan deal at Parkhead ended in 2020. Now 26, the former Australia wonderkid could make his return to the Premiership in the coming weeks as Hearts are interested in signing him on a free transfer following his exit from Melbourne City. Scott Sinclair 5 Sinclair was a fan favourite at Parkhead Credit: Kenny Ramsay - The Sun Glasgow The pacy wide-man, now 36, completed an emotional return to his boyhood club Bristol Rovers in 2022. At that time it looked like it would be the last move of his career but he's now out of contract once again and has yet to give an update on his future - or even announce his retirement. Cristian Gamboa The Costa Rica right-back left Celtic for Bochum in 2019 - and he's been there ever since. He was given an emotional send off on the final game of the season as he waved goodbye to his fans after six years at the club. Liam Henderson The 29-year-old has been in Italy for seven years since he quit Celtic for Bari in 2018. But will he head back to the UK on a free transfer this summer after running down his contract at Empoli? Several English clubs are reportedly interested in snapping him up. Scotland seek answers in Liechtenstein: Steve Clarke's changes, 'shouldn't be panic' and chance-taker

The tranquil setting of Vaduz on the banks of the Rhine should not be a place where further pressure is put on a football manager. Flanked by mountains, visitors usually return refreshed and happy. The small nation of Liechtenstein is currently ranked 202 in the FIFA World rankings. Only Hong Kong have suffered defeat to them in the past five years. Their 'golden' era of most-capped keeper Peter Jehle and star striker Mario Frick are long gone. Konrad Fünfstück's are usually deemed as easy prey for opponents of any meaningful repute. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Scotland fall into that category as they arrive at the Rheinpark Stadion on the Swiss border. This is down as an away win, with odds of 1/12 from most bookmakers. San Marino scored three times when they rocked up here in November. It was an evening of anguish for Scotland against Iceland last time out. | SNS Group History with Liechtenstein won't ease any queasiness, mind you. On Scotland's only previous sojourn to Vaduz in 2011, they narrowly prevailed 1-0 thanks to a goal from Craig Mackail-Smith. That came a year on from an almost catastrophic first meeting with Liechtenstein, when Stephen McManus' 97th-minute header earned a 2-1 win at Hampden. The last match of a long season, many in the Scotland squad are entitled to feel jaded. There have been title wins, cup successes and long European runs. This probably isn't their idea of an Alpine retreat. Nevertheless, Scotland need to tool up for one final job ahead of the holidays. A meek 3-1 defeat by Iceland on Friday night and the lacklustre nature of the performance requires a response. This is the last time head coach Steve Clarke will have his squad together before the World Cup qualification campaign kicks off in September against Denmark. The Parken Stadion will be a world away from the docile 7,584 arena they play in on Monday evening. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Scotland 'need to win their next game' Scotland will want to bounce into the autumn matches, of that there is no doubt. Their recent record in friendlies is poor and Clarke wanted to address that in this double-header. Iceland has come and gone, now it's about doing a number on Liechtenstein. "We need to win our next game on Monday night," was the blunt assessment of midfielder Lewis Ferguson after Iceland. "We need to go and put on a good performance and win the game. Winning games is what breeds confidence. We need to get back to that." Clarke himself admits he is not the most adventurous when it comes to mixing it up with team selection. The manager may have been wrestling with whether to give his main men a chance to atone for Friday and get a much-needed triumph under their belt in Scotland colours, or blood some of the uncapped players in his current group. As it is, injury and fatigue may play a part, with Clarke accepting he may make more alterations than usual. The likes of Josh Doig, Andy Irving and Kieron Bowie will be desperate for game-time and their international debuts. A maiden appearance may come between the sticks after Cieran Slicker was unceremoniously thrown in at the deep end for his first senior appearance for club or country against Iceland after Angus Gunn's second-minute injury and was at fault for all three goals. Celtic-bound keeper Ross Doohan has been summoned from his holidays to join the squad. Doohan has made 20 appearances for Aberdeen this season and seems likely to make his debut, having been solid at Pittodrie all season. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad One may ask why he wasn't in the squad ahead of others. One may also ask why Clarke reverted back to a back-three against Iceland when the back-four had been a reasonable success in the Nations League A campaign against more glamourous opposition. Kieran Tierney's injury may force a formation change. Scott McTominay, the poster boy after Serie A success with Napoli, will also be absent due to a niggle. That means Clarke doesn't need to find the best way to shoe-horn all of his top-level midfielders into one team. It is hard to get Ferguson, John McGinn, Billy Gilmour and McTominay effectively on the pitch at the same time. Craig Mackail-Smith scores the winner against Liechtenstein for Scotland back in 2011. | SNS Group 0141 221 3602 And then there are the strikers. Che Adams has not scored for Scotland in a year, and the Torino hitman must sense an opportunity against Liechtenstein. They are rarely scudded, but Adams will surely get chances if selected ahead of George Hirst as Clarke's No 9. He needs to take them. Within the squad, there is awareness of the talent at Scotland's disposal. "There shouldn't be any panic," Ferguson advised. "We've good strong squad, with plenty of quality and experience. But we do recognise that we need to get back to winning ways and get back to performing at the levels we know we're capable of." Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad

Vaclav Cerny Rangers transfer hope dashed further as Trabzonspor outline plan to meet Czech's demands

Cerny is in demand this summer following his eye-catching loan spell at Ibrox Rangers' already slim chances of signing loan star Vaclav Cerny have suffered another blow after reports emerged that transfer rivals Trabzonspor are clearing the path to make a move for the Czech star. ‌ Turkish outfit Trabzonspor want to land the 27-year-old. but could face competition from league rivals Besiktas and several clubs in Spain. ‌ We also revealed how Cerny's next transfer could see him bank a lucrative wage packet of up to €3.5million (£2.9million) a year off the back of his impressive season at Ibrox where he registered 18 goals and nine assists in 52 matches in all competitions. And according to reports in Turkey, Trabzonspor could cash in one one of their other stars to free up more wages for Cerny's potential arrival. Taka Gazete claim that the Trabzon-based side are hoping to sell attacking midfielder Oleksandr Zubkov for around €11million (£9.3million) despite only signing him back in February. Ukraine international Zubkov was purchased for a fee in the region of €6million (£5million) and caught the eye with eight goals and four assists in 20 games for Trabzonspor. But the report states that they will be willing to cash in on the 28-year-old this summer, making a tidy profit in the process. In turn, that cash could then allow manager Fatih Tekke to push the boat out to try and bring Cerny to north-east Turkey. Rangers might miss out on Cerny but sporting director Kevin Thelwell is ramping up the Ibrox transfer drive to give new boss Russell Martin some much needed reinforcements ahead of the new season. ‌ Record Sport told last week that talks over potential deals for Leicester City defender Conor Coady and Maccabi Tel Aviv frontman Dor Turgeman are both in the offing. Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises vowed to pour £20million into the transfer kitty this summer and a former Manchester United insider is now calling on Gers to use those funds to seal a sensational swoop for Christian Eriksen. ‌ The Denmark hero will leave Old Trafford at the end of his contract next month and ex Red Devils transfer chief Mick Brown reckons the 33-year-old might put his lofty expectations aside to make the move north of the border. He told Football Insider: "Rangers have to be clever in the transfer market. "They have to assess where they can get players who will lift the quality in the squad and help to close the gap to Celtic, but won't cost too much money. ‌ "From what I hear, they will look to explore the free agent market because there's some quality there. They're considering whether to take a chance on somebody like Christian Eriksen. "He's into his 30s now, he's not going to get box to box, but he can pass and manipulate the ball in ways that their current crop of players can't do. "After leaving Man United, he'll be looking for a new club and Rangers is an interesting opportunity. "He could become an orchestrator in the middle of the park, if they can get runners around him and let him focus on what he can do in possession. "On the other side of it, they have to consider he'll probably be on high wages and might not have the legs any more if that's what they want. But it's move they're looking at and one they might decide is worth the risk and worth the gamble.
