Lionel Messi Spotted At Coldplay Concert, Chris Martin Calls Him 'No 1 Sportsperson'

News18a day ago
Suspended for Inter Miami's bout against FC Cincinnati, Lionel Messi spent time with his wife at the Coldplay concert in the North American city.
Football icon Lionel Messi was spotted at Coldplay's jumbotron alongside his better half in the North American city. Fans jumped and roared in excitement at the concert as a giant screen unveiled Messi's presence, while Coldplay's lead singer, Chris Martin, welcomed the world cup winner to the concert.
'Welcome to my beautiful brother," said Martin from the stage, looking at Messi, who was smiling as he waved acknowledging the loud reception.
'You and your wife are looking so fine. Thanks for coming today to see our band play. The No.1 sportsperson of all time," Martin said.
Messi went to the Coldplay concert after attending Inter Miami's goalless draw against FC Cincinnati, for which the 38-year-old had been suspended amidst a breach of an All-Stars match regulation.
Speculations had been rife about Messi's absence for the friendly encounter that featured 26 MLS players, including Hirving Lozano, Jordi Alba and Diego Rossi.
Even as MLS authorities were desperate for Messi's appearance because of his incredible fame that would've attracted humongous viewership, he gave the game a skip.
Because Messi took no part in the MLS All-Stars fixture, he was handed a one-match ban by the Major League Soccer authorities.
Messi though was present in the stands on Saturday with Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas calling the punishment 'draconian". He also revealed the legend was 'extremely upset" over the sanction that sidelined him for an important match.
'To fill stadiums and sell tickets, nobody complains. It's strange, one day they say something, and the next day they say something else. We all heard what was said — that it was understandable the number of matches that he had been playing," said Miami's coach Javier Mascherano, reiterating that the ban was imposed despite the club informing MLS officials about the fatigue Messi dealt with amidst a congested schedule.

India's concert economy set to generate 12 million jobs by 2032, report

India's live concert industry is no longer a niche entertainment segment, and is rapidly becoming a significant economic force. According to NLB Services, the country's 'concert economy' is projected to generate up to 12 million jobs by 2032, driven by expanding demand in tier II and III cities and increasing participation from global entertainment brands. In recent years, live music events in India have grown in scale and frequency, drawing global acts like Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Cigarettes After Sex, Guns N' Roses and more. While major metros like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru remain central, emerging cities such as Guwahati, Jaipur, Kochi, and Chandigarh are now regularly hosting large-scale concerts. This geographical shift is helping to decentralise employment opportunities. Each major concert can create between 15,000 to 20,000 temporary jobs across logistics, security, hospitality, artist liaison, digital media, and event technology. In some cases, about 10–15% of these temporary roles are converting to full-time employment, particularly in technical areas like production, lighting, and audio engineering. NLB Services CEO Sachin Alug said the sector has moved beyond seasonal shows to become 'year-round economic engines,' calling for urgent investments in skill development, especially in smaller cities. 'The concert economy is not just about entertainment — it's about job creation, formalisation, and youth empowerment,' he added. The economic ripple effect of major events is already evident. Coldplay's 2024 Ahmedabad concert reportedly added ₹641 crore to the local economy, including ₹72 crore in GST revenue. Hotels saw a surge in occupancy, flights were overbooked, and F&B outlets reported record sales. Platforms like BookMyShow Live have played a central role in shaping India's concert landscape. Naman Pugalia, Chief Business Officer for Live Events, noted that concerts now operate 'at an international scale,' citing events like Lollapalooza India and Bandland, which have created over 8,500 jobs each. Looking ahead, the sector is poised to become a ₹15,000 crore industry, though its continued growth depends on infrastructure, state support, and upskilling efforts. Meanwhile, social media and the fear of missing out (FoMO) are also driving ticket demand, with fans eager to attend global acts that may not return soon. With a packed 2025 lineup featuring Travis Scott, Enrique Iglesias, and more, India's concert economy shows no sign of slowing. Industry stakeholders believe the momentum could lead to a long-term transformation of how entertainment, tourism, and employment intersect in the country.

How Much Did Gwyneth Paltrow Earn To Fix Astronomer's Image After Coldplay Cam Fiasco? Find Out

Amy Odell, who recently wrote a book about Gwyneth Paltrow, shared some special details about her past endorsement deals. Gwyneth Paltrow may have earned a massive amount for acting as a temporary spokesperson for the tech firm Astronomer. Amy Odell, who recently wrote a book about the actress, shared some special details about Paltrow's past endorsement deals. According to Odell, she knows how much money the star made from different partnerships. While she didn't give the exact figure for Paltrow's role in helping improve Astronomer's image after a scandal involving its CEO and HR chief during a Coldplay concert, she suggested that the amount was definitely in the millions. Taking to Instagram, the author said, 'How much money did Gwyneth Paltrow get paid to be the very temporary spokesperson for astronomer, the company that lost its CEO following the viral Coldplay kiss cam moment? I just wrote a book about Gwyneth Paltrow, I have exclusive information about what she's earned for past endorsement deals, so let's review." 'She appeared at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia for a total of 1.6 million. She attended a launch party for Skims in late 2023 to promote their Swarovski collaboration for $250,000. Gwyneth had a bigger deal with Swarovski, where she would earn 1.25 million in exchange for wearing Swarovski a certain number of times. She also receives millions for endorsing other brands. Where do you think she would be paid for this one minute long video?" Amy Odell added. Reacting to the post, a user wrote, 'She likely made a lot but a very savvy strategic move by her team for positive PR. Win win." Another shared, 'Knowing her and her generous spirit. If she was paid, I bet she would donate the money to a charity." 'She's very entrepreneurial, so I guess they made it worth her while," a comment read. An individual stated, 'No greater validation for an unauthorised biographer than for her subject to pull this kind of massive PR move the weekend before book drop." One more added, 'Waste of money. Nobody who uses Astronomer was thinking 'man I'm going to stop now' and then saw a paid celeb and said 'You know what, you son of a gun, I'm back in.' Nobody cares." In a video recently posted by Astronomer, Gwyneth Paltrow didn't directly talk about the cheating issue, which started when former CEO Andy Byron and former HR head Kristen Cabot were seen getting close at a Coldplay concert. Instead of speaking seriously about the matter, Gwyneth and the company added a light touch to the situation. She responded to a fake question from the brand's followers by praising Astronomer and its services. Thank you for your interest in Astronomer. — Astronomer (@astronomerio) July 25, 2025 After Andy Byron's exit from Astronomer, Pete DeJoy, the co-founder of the company, was named as the new CEO. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
