Rapids acquire M Paxten Aaronson for club-record fee
The Rapids acquired Aaronson, 21, from Germany's Eintracht Frankfurt for a club-record $7 million transfer fee.
Aaronson will occupy a Designated Player spot in Colorado as he returns to MLS after playing abroad since 2023.
Most recently, he tallied nine goals and six assists in 37 matches while on loan at Dutch side FC Utrecht in 2024-25.
"Bringing Paxten to Colorado highlights our ambition and belief in his ability to impact our team immediately," said Rapids president Padraig Smith.
"He has proven himself in Europe, gained valuable experience on the international stage with the U.S. Men's National Team, and brings a dynamic, creative presence to our midfield. He is the exact type of young, hungry player we want to build around at this club, and we are delighted to welcome him to Colorado as we strengthen a team capable of competing at the highest level."
A New Jersey native, Aaronson signed a homegrown player deal with the Philadelphia Union in 2020 and scored four goals in 37 appearances with the club.

August 22 - The Cincinnati Reds enter a weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix looking to gain more ground in the tightening National League wild-card race. The Reds have gained five games on the New York Mets this month, moving to within half a game of the Mets for the third NL wild-card spot on their off day Thursday when Washington beat New York. Cincinnati will send right-hander Zack Littell (9-8, 3.52 ERA) to the mound in the first game of the series Friday. The Diamondbacks will counter with right-hander Ryne Nelson (6-3, 3.58). "To be honest, I'm not worried about anybody but our team," Reds catcher Jose Trevino said. "Take care of what we have to take care of first. ... That's how I go about it, and how a lot of us are going about it. "We're in a tight race. Do whatever we can to win a game. And whether another team wins or another team loses, it doesn't matter." The Reds have gained ground on every contender since Aug. 11 and are the only team in the majors that not been swept this season. Littell, who has established a career high in victories, will make his fourth start for Cincy after being obtained from Tampa Bay at the trade deadline. He is 1-0 with two quality starts and a 3.06 ERA with the Reds, beating the Chicago Cubs in his first start Aug. 5 before a pair of no-decisions against Pittsburgh and Milwaukee. Jerry Jones has claimed Micah Parsons' agent told the Dallas Cowboys to 'stick our contract up our a**' as their feud turned nasty on Thursday. Parsons also gave the clearest signal yet that his relationship with the Cowboys is beyond saving by deleting any mention of the franchise from his X bio. The defensive star requested a trade away from the iconic franchise at the start of August, stating on social media that 'I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys.' He has sat out all training camp practices this summer while seeking a long-term extension to make him one of the NFL's highest-paid defensive players. However, the four-time Pro Bowler has attended team meetings and walkthroughs. Cowboys owner Jones further ignited tensions on Thursday by making some bold claims, including that his offer to Parsons 'would've made him the highest-paid guaranteed player other than a quarterback in the NFL.' Cowboys first-year coach Brian Schottenheimer said Wednesday he is confident Parsons will take the field for their Week 1 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. 'The business side of it is going to take care of itself,' Schottenheimer said. 'I think at the end of the day, we feel like Micah's going to be out there when we line up against Philadelphia here in 15 days or whatever it is. I feel good about that, yeah.' Parsons, 26, is under contract with a fifth-year option that would pay him $24million in 2025. Parsons removed any mention of the Cowboys from his X bio late on Thursday evening In 63 games over four seasons with Dallas, the superstar pass rusher has 256 tackles, 112 quarterback hits, 52.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
