No enthnic truce, no end to President rule likely in Manipur

Time of Indiaa day ago

President's rule in Manipur will continue till a reconciliation is reached between the Kukis and Meiteis in the state, top government sources said on Wednesday while asserting that the Centre is committed to government formation in the troubled state.
Manipur has been under President's rule after the resignation of N Biren Singh as chief minister in February.
Top sources in the Centre said various initiatives were being taken to resolve the disputes between Meiteis and Kukis to ensure peace in the state.
On being asked about several MLAs, including BJP MLAs, meeting the governor of Manipur, sources said everybody wants to form the government in the state. But some sort of an agreement has to be reached between the Kukis and Meiteis. Only then does it make sense to consider revoking President's rule, sources said.
Meanwhile, Biren Singh met Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday and told reporters in Imphal that like people of the state, the Centre also wants a popular government in Manipur. The process of convening a meeting of representatives of various communities is underway, he said.
On April 5, the Centre had held a meeting with Meitei and Kuki representatives to bring lasting peace in the state.
On May 19, the MHA had issued a 30-day deadline for all states and union territories to verify the identity and documentation of individuals suspected to be illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar. Those who fail to produce valid documents would be liable for deportation.

Ex-min accuses CM of colluding with BJP in LS polls

1 2 Hyderabad: Former minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy on Thursday launched a scathing attack on both the Congress and BJP, alleging a covert alliance between the two parties in Telangana . He went a step further, accusing chief minister A Revanth Reddy of directly aiding the BJP's victory in eight Lok Sabha seats during the 2024 elections. Speaking at a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Prashanth Reddy dismissed the CM's claims that both Union minister G Kishan Reddy and BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao were obstructing the state's development. Instead, he alleged that it was Revanth himself who was undermining the Congress and facilitating the BJP's rise. "Even the BJP is protecting Revanth. Not a single ED or IT raid has been conducted against Congress leaders in Telangana," he remarked. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Official work in Hindi, says Haryana education min — ‘I myself do not know English'

Gurgaon: Haryana education minister Mahipal Dhanda has directed his department to conduct all official work in Hindi. "I myself do not know English, and 90% of the people in our state are far from (understanding) English. Therefore, so that people can understand official work, I have ordered all work in the education department to be done in Hindi," the minister said at a press conference in Kurukshetra on Thursday. The announcement was made days after the directorate of higher education issued an order on June 10, saying all official correspondence "must henceforth be presented in Hindi". It also specified that any communication to the education minister and the additional chief secretary (education) should be in Hindi as well. Until now, the state education department had the option to use both Hindi and English. Calling Hindi the "rastrabhasha (national language)", Dhanda said that this policy is not "anti-English". "We are not enemies of English... We are not in favour of stopping English. Knowledge of other languages is also necessary. English-medium schools are still being opened in the state. For me, language is mainly to acquire knowledge, rather than becoming a barrier in practical work," the minister said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo The Indian Constitution does not name any "national language", and both Hindi and English are recognised as "official languages". Dhanda on Wednesday pointed out that the policy is only for official communication and it is not related to academics. "What's the problem in this (policy)? It's a mode of communication, do it in any language... Hindi is better understood by people," a senior education department official in Panchkula said. Dushyant Thakran, a school teacher in Gurgaon, questioned if the policy would make any difference. "Schools are already focused on teaching children English," he said. Before this, controversy has erupted on the implementation of central govt's NEP, which pushes for a "three-language formula". Tamil Nadu govt has accused the Centre of trying to impose Hindi on the state, though the BJP govt has denied the charge as an unnecessary controversy. HC stays defamation case filed by BJP against CM Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad: The Telangana high court on Thursday stayed the criminal defamation case against chief minister A Revanth Reddy at the legislators special court. The case pertains to the alleged defamatory remarks made by the CM against BJP during the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign. BJP had complained that the CM claimed BJP would abolish reservations for weaker sections if voted to power. Stating that these utterances were damaging the party's image, BJP leader Kasam Venkateswarlu filed the complaint before the magistrate court. A criminal case was lodged and the trial was on before the principal special judicial first class magistrate for excise cases which was designated as a special court for trying offences against legislators. Revanth had filed a plea urging the court to quash this 'politically motivated case'. Earlier, the high court exempted him from appearing before the court. On Thursday, when the case came up for hearing, it was brought to the notice of the court that the BJP leader had filed a counter urging the court not to quash the case. Public prosecutor Palle Nageswara Rao sought time to counter the argument of the BJP. Justice K Lakshman while staying the process before the trial court posted the case to June 23.
