Friday, June 27, 2025, has been declared an official paid holiday for private sector employees in the United Arab Emirates in observance of the Islamic (Hijri) New Year 1447 AH, according to an announcement issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) on Monday, June 16.
The announcement aligns with an earlier confirmation by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, which extended the same day off to public sector employees. This reflects the UAE's unified national holiday policy that ensures both public and private sector workers receive equal official holidays throughout the year.
For employees with a standard Saturday-Sunday weekend, this creates a three-day long weekend from June 27 to June 29, with regular work expected to resume on Monday, June 30.
The holiday is part of the UAE Cabinet's approved list of official holidays for 2025, and follows the extended break residents recently enjoyed during the Eid Al Adha holidays earlier in June.
The Islamic, or Hijri, New Year, also referred to as Hijri New Year, marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar and falls on the first day of
Muharram
, the first month in the Hijri calendar. The Hijri calendar is based on lunar months and differs from the Gregorian calendar in both structure and observance.

The occasion commemorates the Hijrah, or migration, of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Mecca to Medina in the year 622 CE, an event that marks the start of the Islamic calendar. While not typically celebrated on the same scale as Eid Al Fitr or Eid Al Adha, it remains a solemn and significant religious date and is recognized with a public holiday in the UAE.
The ministry's announcement applies to all private sector companies operating within the UAE.
Looking ahead, the next Islamic holiday is expected to be Mawlid Al Nabawi, or the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) birthday, which is anticipated to fall on Thursday, September 4, 2025, corresponding to the 12th day of Rabi Al Awwal. As with all Islamic holidays, the exact date will be confirmed by the moon-sighting committee and relevant religious authorities in the UAE.
Following that, the UAE National Day holidays will be observed on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 2–3, marking the country's founding with a two-day mid-week break.
Under UAE law, the handling of official holidays is governed by several key provisions:
Article No. 2 of the Cabinet resolution states that, except for Eid holidays, official public holidays may be moved to the beginning or end of the week by a Cabinet decision.
Article No. 3 clarifies that if a holiday coincides with a weekend or another public holiday, it will not be carried forward.
Article No. 4 permits local governments to approve additional official holidays not listed in the federal resolution for special occasions or institutional needs.
The announcement reaffirms the UAE's structured and transparent approach to managing public holidays across all sectors, allowing residents to plan their personal and professional commitments in advance.

Opening of Galwan Valley for tourists on 5th anniversary of India-China troops clash delayed

Galwan Memorial (Photo: ANI) SRINAGAR: Plans to open Galwan Valley hot springs in Ladakh for tourists on the fifth anniversary of the deadly clash between Indian and Chinese troops have been delayed, as construction of the war memorial needs further work. 'We have deferred the official opening of the Galwan Valley until the memorial is completed in perfection, as that will be the main attraction. It is about to be completed, but needs a finishing touch,' Tashi Gyalson, chief executive councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), told TOI. Gyalson said LAHDC was also working on amending permit regulations to allow visitors without special permission. 'It is just a matter of a few days before Galwan Valley is opened to tourists,' he said. The Ladakh administration, in collaboration with the Indian Army, is at present working to build supporting infrastructure in the area. The Galwan Valley hot springs near the Line of Actual Control were set to open on June 15 as part of a battlefield tourism initiative. The date was meant to mark the fifth anniversary of the 2020 clash between Indian and PLA troops. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... Meanwhile, the Army on Monday paid tribute to soldiers who died in the Galwan clash with China. In a post on X, Ladakh based Fire and Fury Corps 'paid heartfelt tribute to the valour and supreme sacrifice of our bravehearts who stood resolute in the face of adversity'. 'The indomitable courage in Galwan Valley forever resonates in the hearts of every Indian. Nation honours their families with deep respect. Viral: Man reveals one aspect where Indian salons lag behind Japanese ones and it is not their service

Image credits: X/@BarkusMaximus Globalisation and new money have allowed us a world of experiences which one could only dream of earlier. Nowadays, it isn't difficult for most people to pack a bag and get set to explore the world. People travel across the globe and enjoy the minute pleasures of life, such as getting a haircut in a different country. Hair salons in various countries offer unique experiences and men all around the world are surely attracted to them. From unique haircuts to massages, salons experiment with a lot of services to keep a constant revolving door of customers. However, is that enough? Recently, a man took to X to share the only difference between a Japanese and Indian salon, which he thought was good PR. Referencing a video of a man getting a haircut in Japan where he suggested that it is an experience every man should get once in their lifetime, he wrote, "Japan's PR is unreal just like 'Peak Bengaluru'. There is absolutely nothing in this clip which my barber from my current hometown wouldn't be doing for ₹250-300. " The video showed a female barber cutting a man's hair which involved a haircut, hair wash, facial, face shaving, and lots of massage on the head, shoulder and back. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Recibirás alertas gratuitas sobre acciones con este nuevo algoritmo TradeTrend Más información Undo Netizens react Image credits: X/@BarkusMaximus The comparison is actually true. If you see videos of Indian salons giving haircuts to men, all of these acts are involved but the only difference is that the entire activity is not sold as one big life-changing experience. People in the comments attested to the man's views writing, "Absolutely agree. The day we nail Aesthetics we rule the world." "My barber Shahrukh bhai does it for Rs 150." quipped another X user. Image credits: X/@BarkusMaximus Many wrote how cleanliness and calmness were a factor that differentiated the salons of the two countries. The Indian salons market hair cutting as a service which is performed in a short and quick amount of time and you are one of the many customers in line. However, Japanese salons market haircuts as a personal experience where you can rest and enjoy a service catered to you in particular. "Feel her stillness and calmness. Our barbers are in a different haste." and "Cleanliness and respect, not an everyday concept or expectation in India any more" wrote people in the comments. "The word you need to focus upon is 'experience' one pointed out. Others added the unique aspects of Indian salons that Japanese salons can't replicate, which is a haircut and massage with classic Indian songs playing in the background. "Mere yahan 50 mein kaat deta hai World class hairstyle Massage and Kumar Sanu bangers are added extras" and "But with old melodies, geopolitics and gossip of the town..." shared some.

Realty fraud kingpin arrested; over 100 duped

L ucknow: A man accused of orchestrating a massive real estate fraud racket targeting Army and paramilitary personnel was arrested by a joint team of the UP STF and Lucknow police. The accused, Pramod Kumar Upadhyay, 46, allegedly duped over 100 people by selling them fake or disputed plots of land across Lucknow and surrounding areas. The arrest took place on June 15 near Jyotinagar, when the STF received intelligence that Upadhyay would be visiting his now-defunct office near Kanha Upvan in Mohanlalganj to retrieve documents. A team led by additional SP (STF) Lal Pratap Singh apprehended him before he could access the premises. DCP South Nipun Agarwal said Upadhyay is a key accused in at least 30 FIRs, all connected to fraudulent land dealings. He is alleged to have run the scam under the banner of Infra Vision Pvt Ltd, a real estate company that promised prime land but delivered neither ownership nor possession to buyers. Police said that the accused specifically targeted members of the defence and paramilitary forces, knowing they were often unable to inspect the sites due to duty commitments. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Click Here Undo Exploiting their trust, Upadhyay would lure them into deals with fabricated or disputed land documents. The victims were convinced to register plots, only to later discover that the land either did not exist or was never legally owned by the company. "Due to their limited availability for land visits, these personnel were shown misleading documents and plots that were either already under dispute or located elsewhere. Once the fraud came to light, the accused assured the victims of refunds but continued delaying any action," said Agarwal. During interrogation, Upadhyay revealed that the company was originally floated by his elder brother Vinod Kumar Upadhyay and their father Haridwar Upadhyay. The firm operated for years from offices in Aashiyana and Kanha Upvan, which were shut down after the scam surfaced. A case has been registered at Mohanlalganj police station under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Investigators said that earnings from the fraud were allegedly invested in properties located in Khalilabad, Pratapgarh and Raxaul (Bihar). Officials are now examining financial records and real estate transactions linked to the accused to trace the full scale of the racket. Further arrests may follow as the STF continues to investigate the network of accomplices and victims spread across different parts of the country.
