One lucky person in Ireland has just won the £208,000,000 EuroMillions jackpot.
While the person's identity is currently unknown, the Irish National Lottery confirmed the massive win, which is the equivalent to €250,000,000.
Cian Murphy, Ireland's National Lottery chief executive, has urged punters to check their tickets and warned the winner to 'keep it safe'.
It means they have become instantly richer than megastars including Adele and Dua Lipa.
The jackpot had been sat at £208million for two weeks after it reached its maximum amount earlier this month.
You might be wondering how on earth this person managed to win the money and what you can do to increase your chances of winning the biggest jackpot.
So, can anything be done to increase your chances of matching the six numbers and two lucky stars to win?
The Midlands is the luckiest region in the UK, as more than 1,000 people have become millionaires there since the National Lottery was launched in 1994.
In comparison, only 195 people have ever won more than £1million in Northern Ireland, with 408 people in Wales becoming millionaires in the same time frame.
When it comes to EuroMillions, people from other European countries also take part in the draw, but you'll be pleased to know the UK is one of the luckiest countries.
Some 46 out of 172 jackpot winners since September 2016 have been in the UK, analyst lottery.co.uk said – about 26%.
But hold your horses if you're considering packing your bags and moving to the Midlands.
A National Lottery spokesperson said: 'Certain areas have more National Lottery millionaires, but there are more people in London than the North East, for example, so after 30 years of millionaire-making, you'd expect it.
'Remember, only around 5% of big winners share their news, so your perception of where the winners are may be based on just the winners spraying champagne. There are big winners in every corner of the country.'
Some players reckon buying a ticket in a shop rather than taking part online increases your chances, but a Lottery spokesperson has debunked this theory.
They told Metro: 'It's up to you – buy your ticket in your local corner shop, or on the app, sitting in the bath, how you buy your ticket has no impact on your chances of winning.
'The key point is to have a ticket, without one your chance is zero.'
The number of times a number has been drawn also doesn't play a role in boosting your chances.
Lottery.co.uk reckons the least drawn EuroMillions numbers are 22 and 40, and the numbers 26, 11 and 16 are the most overdue to feature in a draw soon.
Similarly, some superstitious players use a fixed set of numbers every time, maybe choosing lucky numbers, memorable dates, or the birthdays of loved ones.
But the National Lottery spokesperson said neither of these improves your chances, saying: 'Any set of numbers can be drawn, so sticking with one set doesn't make a statistical difference.
'However, we are all drawn to our own lucky numbers, and plenty of winners will say it is these that have helped them bank a big prize.
'Statistically, there is no reason why the same set of numbers couldn't come up in every single draw.'
This did actually happen once – 4, 15, 23, 24, 35 and 42 were drawn in two consecutive rounds of the Bulgarian lottery back in 2009.
Officials ruled it a coincidence.
The Lottery spokesperson also ruled out always playing on a certain day and only playing when there is a lower jackpot as potential ways to boost your luck.
This is because the odds of all of your numbers matching those drawn remain the same and will not change, no matter how big the jackpot, what day it is, or how many other people have bought tickets.
'The key is to have a ticket. No ticket, no chance – a ticket, whenever you buy it, means you are in with a chance of winning big,' the spokesperson said.
However, when it comes to only playing when there is a lower jackpot, the spokesperson added: 'In general, fewer people tend to play when jackpots are lower, which means if you were to win the jackpot there is a slightly smaller chance that you would end up sharing it with another player who has the same set of numbers.'
So overall, it seems like there isn't a tried and tested way to improve your odds of winning the EuroMillions jackpot.
The only way to make sure you're in with a chance at all is to buy a ticket and cross your fingers. More Trending

The prize pot stood at €250 million, making this lucky ticket holder now Ireland's biggest ever lottery winner. The National Lottery EuroMillions winning numbers were 13, 22, 23, 44, 49 and the Lucky Stars are: 03, 05. The EuroMillions jackpot is capped once it reaches €250m, and is able to be rolled over four times. Once on the fifth draw, the prize must be won! Therefore, Tuesday night's draw was the last chance for the jaw-dropping amount to be rolled over after no one won in the four previous draws. But instead of having to be rolled down into the prize tier on Friday, this Irish lottery entrant became the country's 18th EuroMillions jackpot winner. The last Irish winner of EuroMillions jackpot was in February 2022, when someone netted a respectable €30.9 million which they had bought in a service station. Since the EuroMillions began in 2004, the UK has had 132 jackpot winners - the most of any other nation. France is not far behind with 131 winners, and Spain is the only other nation to have more than 100 winners, with 122. Who are the biggest winners? While the UK leads in terms of all-time winners, no one has ever won a figure close to the £208 million won on Tuesday. ‘Don't do anything in a rush': Belfast's £10m winner offers advice to €250m EuroMillions ticket holder yet to come forward

A Belfast man who won the lottery nearly 30 years ago has urged the winner of Tuesday's massive EuroMillions jackpot to 'put it in the bank and get their head around it'. Former bus driver Peter Lavery scooped £10.2m in 1996. This week's EuroMillions draw saw someone in the Republic of Ireland, who bought their ticket in a shop in Co Wexford, win €250m (£213m). The numbers were 13, 22, 23, 44, 49, while the lucky numbers were three and five. The record-breaking win surpasses the €175m record for the largest cheque ever presented to an Irish player in February 2019. Previously earning £200 a week driving his bus route, Mr Lavery quit his job two days after he won £10m. He went on a 10-person holiday to a five-star resort in St Lucia and also recalled taking 22 people to New York for St Patrick's Day. Mr Lavery also set up a charity in memory of his parents and gave around £2m to other charities. Speaking on BBC's Good Morning Ulster today, Mr Lavery, a director of Titanic Distillers, admitted that when compared to €250m, his £10.2m didn't sound like a lot. 'It does not, but let me tell you something, what I won was a massive amount of money,' he said. 'It was over 29 years ago, it's unbelievable. I just want to say good luck to the person who has won it. 'They are probably shocked. At the time, I was one of the biggest wins in Northern Ireland, £10m in 1996 is a lot of money. You just can't be an ordinary worker today and have a quarter of a billion in your back pocket. 'It's a big scoop. Whoever has it, fair play to them. I hope they really enjoy it – that is more important than anything else.' Chaotic scenes as Kneecap's Liam Og O hAnnaidh arrives at court He added: 'I think the right thing to do is to put it in the bank and get their head around it. Buy a few odds and ends. If they really want a new car, go buy it, go on holiday, do things like that. 'But don't do anything in a rush. They have all the time in their lives, and hopefully they are young enough to enjoy it. 'Everyone has that dream of winning the lottery. You never think it is going to be you. Everybody plays the lottery to change their lives. 'You don't do half the things you say you are going to do. I have seen the globe, I have done everything else. 'I was young at the time, I was 34, a good age to get it. I have had a good life of it. I just hope and pray that the person, or persons, who have won it will have the same luck as myself.' It has not yet been confirmed exactly where the winning ticket was sold, but the National Lottery has urged the winner 'to stay calm, get independent legal and financial advice and contact us as soon as they can'. Speaking on Wednesday morning, National Lottery spokesperson Emma Monaghan confirmed the winning ticket was purchased in a retail store somewhere in Ireland and said more information on the location where it was bought will be released in the coming days. 'So, shortly after the draw last night, a small number of people internally got word that it was an Irish winner, so it was all hands-on deck last night,' she told RTÉ's Morning Ireland. 'But we're delighted with it. We're delighted for the winner. I mean, it's just such great news for our players and they've now become the highest ever winner of an Irish National Lottery game. So, that is some title to hold.' She said the National Lottery's prize claims team opens from 9am this morning and as of yet, the lucky winner is yet to make contact. 'At the moment we're just urging everyone to check their tickets very carefully this morning. If they are holding the winning ticket, the most important thing they can do is to sign the back of it and keep it somewhere safe. And the next step then is to contact our prize team,' she said. 'I don't know who has won it, but somebody out there is holding the winning ticket. In terms of location, what I can tell you is that the winning ticket was bought in a retail store somewhere in Ireland.'
