Egypt deepens global transport, industrial partnerships through strategic engagement at Connectivity Forum

During his visit to Türkiye to participate in the Global Transport Connectivity Forum 2025, Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, spearheaded a comprehensive diplomatic and investment outreach aimed at reinforcing Egypt's global role in transport and industrial integration.
Al-Wazir's mission included a series of high-level meetings with international industry leaders, starting with Ugur Dalbeler, Vice President of the World Steel Association and Deputy Head of Türkiye's Steel Producers Association. The two sides discussed expanding collaboration in the iron and steel sector, a strategic industrial priority for Egypt. Al-Wazir underlined Egypt's determination to localise heavy industries, enhance domestic manufacturing, and grow exports through the adoption of advanced global technologies and mutually beneficial partnerships.
At a roundtable hosted by the Turkish Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (MÜSİAD), the minister addressed leading Turkish investors across sectors such as textiles, chemicals, food processing, logistics, and energy. He presented Egypt's competitive edge, including its young and cost-efficient labour force, prime geographic location linking Africa, Asia, and Europe, and preferential access to international markets through over a dozen free trade agreements. These advantages, he said, establish Egypt as a prime hub for manufacturing, exports, and global trade.
Al-Wazir also took part in the forum's high-level ministerial session, 'The Future of Connectivity in a Fragmented World,' alongside Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and representatives from the United Nations. In his remarks, he spotlighted Egypt's investment in multimodal transport corridors that integrate regional production zones with international trade routes. He stressed the central role of the Suez Canal—through which over 100 vessels transit daily—and detailed ongoing upgrades to Egypt's seaports, logistics centres, and high-speed rail lines as part of a broader vision to reinforce the country's logistical connectivity.
Further advancing regional cooperation, Al-Wazir met with Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Grozdan Karadjov to accelerate bilateral agreements in maritime and logistics. Key among these was a planned memorandum of understanding between Alexandria Port and Bulgaria's Port of Burgas. The talks also explored joint industrial ventures focused on technology transfer and coordinated exports to African markets.
Al-Wazir stressed that Egypt is transitioning from a traditional transit corridor to a fully integrated hub for transport and production. He presented Egypt as a stable and strategic partner within global supply chains, contributing actively to initiatives such as China's Belt and Road Initiative, the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC), and the emerging Development Road linking Iraq, the Gulf, and Europe.
Concluding his visit, Al-Wazir reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to strengthening regional and global economic integration. He extended an open invitation to international partners—particularly from Türkiye and Bulgaria—to invest in Egypt's transport infrastructure and manufacturing sectors. Emphasising the importance of shared infrastructure, technology-driven planning, and resilient logistics networks, he reiterated Egypt's readiness to support investors committed to engaging with its real economy and contributing to a redefined regional trade landscape.

Flutterwave Named to TIME100 Most Influential Companies List for Second Time, Highlighting Global Payments Influence

Africa's leading payments technology company returns to this global list after its 2021 debut. Flutterwave, Africa's leading payment technology company, has been named among the TIME100 Most Influential Companies List of 2025. This marks the second time the company has received this prestigious global honor. Flutterwave joins global leaders such as Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway, Netflix, OpenAI, Universal Music Group, and others in the list's TITANS category. TIME reveals the fifth-annual TIME100 Most Influential Companies list, highlighting companies making an extraordinary impact around the world today. To assemble the list, TIME solicited nominations across sectors, and polled its global network of contributors and correspondents, as well as outside experts. Then TIME editors evaluated each on key factors, including impact, innovation, ambition, and success. The result is a diverse group of 105 businesses helping chart an essential path forward. Founded in 2016, Flutterwave was first included on the TIME100 list in 2021. This followed a historic campaign that helped thousands of businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to sell online. Its 2025 return testifies to the company's ongoing influence as a fintech leader, transforming payments across Africa and beyond. The company has remained committed to connecting Africa through seamless payments. It empowers individuals and businesses to thrive in the digital economy. Today, its solutions power growth across diverse sectors. These include cross-border remittance, e-commerce, travel, payroll, and hospitality. Flutterwave Founder and CEO, Olugbenga 'GB' Agboola, commented on the recognition: 'Being recognized by TIME once again is a true honor. It's a testament to our team's incredible work. We've moved from building infrastructure to enabling global-scale solutions. Flutterwave today isn't just powering payments; we're shaping Africa's financial future and connecting the continent to the world.' In the past year, Flutterwave significantly expanded its global presence. The company now has technology reach in over 34 African countries. Nearly fifty percent of its customers received payments in new markets in 2024. Additionally, it launched operations in new markets such as Bahrain, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia for a leading global ride-hailing giant to expand in those countries. This positions Flutterwave as one of the few African fintech companies with such extensive technology reach. Additionally, the company's flagship remittance product, SendApp by Flutterwave, has scaled rapidly across the US, UK, and the EU. It creates faster, more affordable ways for Africans in the diaspora to send money to family and friends back home. Notably, Send App received 20 additional licenses in the US, now holding 34 such licenses across the country. This, combined with partnerships, gave the brand near-complete US coverage. The company also built a strengthened executive team. It recently introduced a focused growth strategy centered on profitability and continued market penetration and expansion. This TIME's 2025 list follows a wave of recent global and regional accolades. Notably, Flutterwave ranked first on Fast Company's 2024 Most Innovative Companies list for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Earlier this year, it was recognized for the second consecutive year in the FXC Top 100 Cross-Border Payment Companies.

President al-Sisi: June 30 Revolution represents national epic that brought state back to its right path

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Monday, June 30, 2025, that the June 30 Revolution represented a national epic drawn by Egyptians to bring the state back to its right path. In a speech marking the revolution and published by the presidency on Monday, June 30, 2025, President al-Sisi said: 'Today, we celebrate the anniversary of the June 30 Revolution, which represent a national epic, etched by the sons of Egypt, where wills converged and the voice of the people prevailed.' 'The masses decided to reclaim Egypt, its identity, history, and destiny, to stand united against terrorism and conspiracies, break the waves of chaos, thwart attempts of blackmail and appropriation, and restore the state to its correct path, said the president. The June 30 Revolution served as the springboard for the New Republic. Since 2013, Egypt has been crafting a new history, not with words, but with actions; not with slogans, but with projects,' he added. 'The path has not been easy; we faced terrorism, with the blood of our martyrs and the bravery of our men, ultimately defeating it, with the grace of Allah. Simultaneously, we addressed both internal and external challenges, while steadfastly continuing on the path of comprehensive development and the building of a modern Egypt, driven by the sincere efforts of its honorable people. We established robust infrastructure, and here we are today, engaged in building, developing, modernizing, and advancing this homeland, establishing monuments of accomplishments that inspire hope and firmly grasp the opportunity for a better life', he said. 'I address you today as the entire region groans under the fires of wars. The cries of victims rise from devastated Gaza, extending to the conflicts in Sudan, Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Somalia. From the platform of historical responsibility, I urge the parties in the conflict and the international community to continue to take all necessary measures and heed the voice of wisdom and reason, to spare the peoples of the region the scourges of destruction and devastation', he said. 'Egypt, always a steadfast advocate for peace, firmly believes that peace is not born of bombardment, nor is it imposed by force, nor achieved through normalization rejected by peoples. True peace is built upon the foundations of justice, equity, and understanding. The continuation of war and occupation will never yield peace; rather, it fuels the spiral of hatred and violence and opens the doors to vengeance and resistance, which will not close. Enough with violence, killing, hatred, enough with occupation, displacement, and dispersion,' President al-Sisi said. 'Though peace may appear elusive, it is never impossible; it has always been the choice of the wise. Let us draw inspiration from the Egyptian-Israeli peace experience of the 1970s, which was mediated by the United States, and stands as a testament that peace is possible to achieve, provided there is genuine good faith. Peace in the Middle East will only be achieved with the establishment of an independent Palestinian State, along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,' he said. 'The true power of Egypt resides not merely in its weaponry, but within your profound awareness, the solidarity of your ranks, and your unwavering rejection of all incitements to frustration, division, and hatred, ' the president added. Indeed, the burdens are heavy, and the challenges are formidable, but we bow only to Allah the Almighty. We will not deviate from our ambitions for a dignified homeland. I feel your burdens and assure you that alleviating them is a top priority for the state, especially amidst the turbulent conditions surrounding us,' the president noted. 'In the conclusion, I extend a salute of respect and loyalty to the souls of our righteous martyrs, who watered the soil of this homeland with their pure blood, causing it to grow in honor and dignity. And I pay homage to every mother, father, wife, and child who lost loved ones, for this homeland to stand high, ' he said. 'I also extend my greetings and appreciation to our brave Armed Forces; the guardians of our land and honor, the shield and sword of the nation; to the loyal members of the civil police force, who vigilantly continue their role in maintaining the security of the internal front; and to all state authorities that work tirelessly, day and night, in the service of the great people of Egypt. This is Egypt; resilient in the face of challenges; a nation that builds through the will of its people, and thrives on the dedication of its loyal sons,' he concluded.
