Rangers favourite Arfield left stunned by Whigfield video

The National04-05-2025

The Rangers hero, who returned to his boyhood club in February, was left stunned when none other than 90s pop icon Whigfield sent him a personalised video message – singing the very tune that's become his unofficial anthem.
To the famous beat of her 1994 dance hit Saturday Night, Bairns fans regularly belt out 'Saturday night, and I like the way you move… Scotty Arfield!' – a chant that has echoed around stadiums from Ibrox to the Falkirk Stadium.
And on the night Falkirk sealed back-to-back promotions to secure a return to Scotland's top flight for the first time in 15 years, Arfield was treated to a one-of-a-kind message from the Danish star.
Watching the clip back, a visibly shocked Arfield exclaimed: 'Oh my god. You can't be serious!'

Whigfield then delivered her congratulations, saying: 'I just want to congratulate Falkirk on getting promoted back into the William Hill Premiership. I hope Scott and everybody else at the club are going to have an amazing night. Big kiss and good luck. Bye.'
(Image: Sky Sports) Arfield, grinning ear to ear, responded: 'That is one of the best things I have ever seen. That is amazing. Thank you to you, Whigfield. Thank you so much.'
The emotional scenes capped a dream return for Arfield, who has made a massive impact since rejoining the Bairns in the winter window. The veteran midfielder scored nine goals in just 13 league appearances, playing a pivotal role in Falkirk's charge to the title under manager John McGlynn.
Their final fixture, a dramatic Friday night showdown under the lights, saw the Bairns come from behind to defeat relegated Hamilton Academical 3–1 – thanks to an Ethan Ross brace and a stunning solo effort from Calvin Miller.
With title rivals Livingston slipping up at home to Partick Thistle, Falkirk finished three points clear at the summit and will now gear up for Premiership football against the likes of Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts next season.
From Ibrox glory nights to Whigfield shout-outs – it's been quite the ride for 36-year-old Arfield. And with Falkirk back among Scotland's elite, the Saturday night party is only just getting started.

Michael Soroka leads combined two-hitter as Nats beat Rangers

June 7 - Michael Soroka threw six scoreless innings and Alex Call homered to propel the Washington Nationals to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Texas Rangers on Friday. Soroka (3-3) allowed just two hits while striking out seven and walking one for the Nationals, who had dropped three of four games prior to the series opener. The Washington bullpen kept Texas hitless for the final three innings. Closer Kyle Finnegan retired the first two Rangers he faced in the ninth before Marcus Semien reached on CJ Abrams' fielding error. Finnegan got Jake Burger to pop out to end the game, securing his 18th save of the season. Patrick Corbin (3-5) -- a former Nationals pitcher -- threw an eight-inning complete game, allowing two earned runs on five hits, striking out two and walking none. Adolis Garcia and Josh Smith each tallied a hit for the Rangers, who dropped their fourth straight game. Washington struck first in the bottom of the second as Nathaniel Lowe and Call began the inning with singles before Robert Hassell III drove in the game's first run with a groundout. Garcia's two-out single in the top of the fifth marked the Rangers' first hit and only their second baserunner after Kyle Higashioka was hit by a pitch in the third. Corbin cruised through the bottom of the fifth with a five-pitch inning. Smith laced a one-out single in the sixth while Corey Seager worked a two-out walk, but Soroka escaped the jam by inducing Semien's flyout. Brad Lord relieved Soroka in the seventh, retiring Burger and Evan Carter on two pitches before getting Garcia to pop out to end the inning. Jose Ferrer added a perfect eighth. Call doubled Washington's lead in the seventh with a 407-foot solo shot -- his first of the year. --Field Level Media

Ancelotti was one of the front runners to take over from Philippe Clement at Ibrox, but missed out on landing the job to former Southampton boss Russell Martin. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims on Friday, Davide Ancelotti has made a major decision on his future and is teaming up with his dad Carlo once again. He posted on Twitter: "Davide Ancelotti joins Brazil staff with his father Carlo, decision made and contract signed." Ancelotti has already been his father's number two at Real Madrid, Napoli, Bayern Munich and Everton. But it appeared he was set to go out on his own at Rangers after months of speculation linking him with the top job at Ibrox. He had indicated that Rangers were his preferred choice but had a number of options to consider, with Spanish second division side Deportivo and Swiss outfit Basel reportedly interested. One of those other opportunities also included rejoining his father at Brazil after leaving Real Madrid and that's the decision he has reportedly made. Carlo Ancelotti's first match in charge of Brazil ended in a 0-0 draw with Ecuador on Thursday, which he still described as a "special" occasion. Chances were at a premium, with Brazil only mustering two shots on target. He said after the game: "I think the pitch conditions here made it a bit tricky to play a more intricate game from the back. "It was harder to control the ball. "That said, we had two very good chances, with Vinicius Jr, with Casemiro in the second half. "Yes, we could've done better in attack, but you've also got to take into account the strength of the opponent. "Ecuador played a very good game, just as we did... The journeys here are really long, that takes its toll a bit." Rangers fans react to news Russell Martin is their new manager The draw keeps them fourth in World Cup qualification in South America with an encounter against Paraguay to come. The top six automatically qualify for next year's showpiece. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Scotland star Finn Russell inspired a second-half comeback for Bath against Bristol to reach the Gallagher Premiership final - although the west-country side will have some concerns over his fitness after he came off late on with a leg injury. Stand-off Russell and his teammates overcame a seven-point deficit at the break eventually prevail 34-20 victory over near-neighbours Bristol and set up a clash at Twickenham next weekend against either Leicester Tigers or Sale Sharks. It keeps Bath's hopes of a treble alive with the Premiership Cup and Challenge Cup already in the bag as Johan van Graan's team look to atone for losing last season's final to Northampton. The 32-year-old has become a talisman for club as well as country and did his Lions starting credentials no harm at all with this performance. He was all smiles at the end but no doubt Bath will assess his condition. Bristol were 13-6 in front at the break and it could have been more. The try of the match was scored by their lock James Dun after Fiji wing Kalaveti Ravouvou set off from his own line, leaving four Bath defenders in his wake. Guy Pepper started in the Bath back row in the absence of the suspended Sam Underhill, while Redpath replaced Will Butt at centre. England prop Ellis Genge was recalled to the Bristol pack along with Dun and centurion Steven Luatua. When Bath then laid siege to the visitors' line, Genge was the man who held up the ball to earn a relieving drop-out. Tough start for Bath Both sides were probing for any advantage they could find and the first points went to Bristol as AJ MacGinty punished Pepper's infringement at a ruck with a straightforward penalty after 12 minutes. When hooker Gabriel Oghre broke clear, Bath had to defend desperately before Ben Spencer eased the anxiety with a long kick upfield. But Ravouvou, collecting the ball near his own line, somehow evaded a quartet of would-be tacklers and the home defence was soon spreadeagled at the other end. Lock Dun eventually cut a simple line to the posts and MacGinty added the conversion for a 10-0 lead. Ravouvou was soon sent to the sin bin for preventing a quick-tapped penalty by Spencer, allowing Russell to pull back three points for Bath but MacGinty immediately replied to make it 13-6 at the break. Joe Cokanasiga swooped on a teasing kick ahead by Tom de Glanville to score Bath's third try shortly after to put them ahead for the first time. When Will Muir finished off a prolonged period of pressure by touching down in the left corner and Max Ojomoh added a fifth on the hour, Bath were back in command. With Russell faultless from the tee, the score was suddenly 34-13.
