Law enforcement was alerted to the incident at approximately 6:50 a.m. by a member of the public. Emergency services responded and successfully retrieved the deceased individual from the area.

'They requested that people respect the rāhui and do not conduct water activities, or gather fish and shellfish at Arkles Bay during this time,' a police spokesperson said.
The rāhui is a traditional Māori practice, often implemented following a death near or in a natural body of water. It serves both as a mark of respect for the deceased and as a time for spiritual and environmental cleansing.

Loss of property documents costs housing finance firm 10 lakh
Coimbatore: The district consumer disputes redressal commission has directed a housing finance firm to pay a compensation of 10 lakh to a customer for loss of original property documents. According to an official source, S Murugesan and his son M Prabhakaran, of Vadavalli, jointly availed a housing loan from DCB Bank in Coimbatore by mortgaging their property. Later, PNB Housing Finance Ltd at Pappanaickenpalayam agreed to take over the loan and sanctioned an amount of 22.90 lakh on November 11, 2018. As part of the process, the father-son duo deposited the original title deeds and other documents related to the property with the finance firm after executing a memorandum of deposit of title deeds. After the duo settled the entire outstanding loan amount, the finance firm closed the loan and issued a no objection certificate on November 12, 2023. On December 5, 2023, Murugesan and Prabhakaran visited the finance firm's office to collect their original title deeds and documents. Murugesan and Prabhakaran filed a petition before the district consumer disputes redressal commission. In its order, commission president R Thangavel and member P Marimuthu directed the finance firm to take steps to obtain a non-traceable certificate from the concerned police station for the purpose of reconstructing the missing original documents and obtaining certified copies of the same. The commission also directed the finance firm to initiate the cancellation of the memorandum of deposit of title deeds and pay a compensation of 10 lakh, along with 5,000 towards the cost of legal proceedings, to the complainants. Three schoolboys, aged between 9 and 13, who went missing from north Delhi's Sadar Bazar, were safely traced and rescued from Nasik Railway Station in Maharashtra. The boys, classmates at a school in Sadar Bazar, had been playing the online multiplayer game, Free Fire, for over a year when they befriended a boy named Wahid from Jalna, Maharashtra. During a casual chat, Wahid claimed to have met actor Salman Khan — a remark that sparked the boys' plan to travel to Mumbai to meet the superstar, all without informing their families. On July 25, the families — residents of Kasab Pura and Motia Khan — approached the Sadar Bazar police station after realising the children were missing. One of the boys had left a handwritten note stating they were going to meet Wahid.
