This is the end, beautiful friend. The end of May. By some counts, the end of spring. The end of my trip to Scotland. I'm back in the good old US of A and ready to drive on the right side of the road again like a civilized human being. I'm also ready to solve the final Wordle of May and tally the final Competitive Wordle score against the nefarious Wordle Bot. Let's do it!

I was working on this post while traveling. I enjoy working in airports but I'm always a bit more distracted and today I screwed up my second guess. MUSIC left me with 80 words and eliminated the 'C' which I promptly used in CRATE for my second guess. So annoying! Still, this cut my possible solutions down to just four and I got lucky when I guessed HABIT for the win. I'll take a sloppy win!

In spite of my screw-up, I still beat the Bot today. I get 1 point for guessing in three and another for beating the Bot. The Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and -1 for losing to me. Once a narrow race, our May tally ends with a pretty resounding victory for your humble narrator:

NEW YORK (AP) — Brian Daboll went viral on social media this weekend for referencing a meme that originated on TikTok in his news conference after the New York Giants beat Buffalo in each team's preseason opener. The Giants' fourth-year coach was talking after the game Saturday about rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart being hard on himself by calling his performance 'mid.' "You got to ask him about what 'mid' means," Daboll said, before casually dropping in '6 7" at the end of his answer. The lyric from the Skrilla song 'Doot Doot (6 7)' has become a popular phrase for younger generations. Asked Sunday on a video call with reporters if he learned it from Dart or his kids, Daboll smiled and said, 'My kids.' Dart, who just turned 22, showed promise in his NFL exhibition debut, completing 12 of 19 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown. The organization hopes Dart is New York's QB of the future after trading back into the first round of the draft and selecting him with the 25th pick. Netflix ready to brazenly paywall another beloved sporting event
Do you love it when you have to shell out more of your hard-earned money for a streaming service to simply watch one of your favorite sports? Are you a big fan of rampant buffering issues in the middle of a live sporting event, perhaps while you're even hosting people who specifically came to hang out for said event? Do you enjoy watching as widespread easy access to major sports consistently declines year over year, with the bog-standard sports-viewing experience (at home or in attendance) getting worse and worse for the average fan? Boy, do I have GREAT news for you! According to Lucas Shaw and Hannah Miller of Bloomberg, streaming giant Netflix is trying to swoop in for the broadcast rights to the annual Home Run Derby. The beloved festival of dingers currently doesn't have a home for 2026 after ESPN walked away from its MLB television rights deal, which means it's open season for other media platforms like Netflix to obtain one of the funnest, purest evenings of the entire sports calendar. Given the fragile nature of future MLB television rights in general, Netflix's acquisition of the Home Run Derby could also potentially open the door to other baseball broadcasts. Yay. Yippee. Hurray. Oh, HAPPY DAY at the mere implication that we might have to shell out another $8 somewhere else to a streamer just to watch some good old-fashioned dingers: More from Bloomberg: The streaming company has been talking to the MLB about airing the annual home run competition [the Home Run Derby] and may be interested in additional baseball programming as well, according to the people, who asked not to be identified discussing sensitive information.
